The Shifting Sands of Politics

The United Territories of Civitas, or UTC, a country built on a foundation of democracy and freedom. The UTC is only 297 years old, a junior compared to some of her ancient neighbours, however she has a history filled with action and prestige. The main difference in the UTC and other countries is her democratically elected government that has always been present. Other democracies have all emerged from autocratic monarchies. The UTC is not a superpower, recently an international recession, mass austerity and national strikes have left the economy shattered and the people calling out for change. But now, in the year 2015, a new election campaign is beginning and this is the time for new parties to step in and save the nation. Bringing it not only back from the brink, but to new heights of power.

Now you know the very basics, some quick OOC. You will each be playing 1, or more, Member of Parliament (MP for short) and those MPs will be leading members of a number of different political parties that are up for election in the next UTC election. The election will follow a 'first past the post' system with each territory voting on their MP. Very much like the UK system. After the election we will have a government (be it a single party, coalition or national) and then you, as MPs, will start putting bills to the floor to try and introduce or amend existing laws in an attempt to better the country. As well as this one of you will be the new President and one of you the Vice President. During this time i will introduce crises and random events that will need dealing with. As this is an interest check i wont be outlining the exact system and existing laws however if enough interest is found i will get one up as soon as possible.

Maybe. I think this might work better under General, but that may just be me.

I am throwing it under number of things...there isn't really a single section for this. I will put it in general now though.

Alright. Also, I would recommend using Prime Minister instead of President if you are going for UK parliament.

Isn't the UK voting system currently under pressure to reform due to the results of the recent election?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7tWHJfhiyo The First Past the Post system explained and why it is a bad idea.

Might I recommend Australia's Alternative Voting system instead? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Y3jE3B8HsE

And yeah, I'd be all for this.

This isnt exactly the UK system which is why i am using President and Vice President, i am simply basing the idea on it so a House of Commons and Lords, with a majority and an opposition etc. Will be present by i am not adhearing to it exactly. Furthermore the system isnt under any real pressure simply because the only groups that are bitching about the system are those that supported parties like UKIP. And personally i am delirious they only got one seat. The system itself works, and means that when a new extremist party comes along it finds it difficult to get any real traction. The nazi party emerged in a proportional rep system and i dont like the system. However it would make more sense to have a proportional rep system here so i am happy to change it.

I think the reason people are upset is because the UKIP had 3.9 million votes per seat, whereas SNP had just 26,000 votes per seat; The former only got one MP whereas the SNP got 56. But then again I'm Australian and I don't really know the details about the political parties in the UK... then again, Tony Abbot was born English... Is there a connection there I wonder...

I understand completely why people are upset. However the people who are upset are all massive UKIP supporters and I despise UKIP to the pit of my stomach. They are racist pigs who want to push the Uk back to the 20s. I am very glad that they got one seat...even more so that it wasn't Farrage. Anyways...an OOC is up. I am still keeping this open for people to join though.
