My sleeping pattern is fucked. So I go to bed at 6am or so. Late, it's starting to get light outside, but whatever. I can still wake up around noon and do plenty with my day, even if it means missing lectures.

I decide I'll read for a while to help me drift off. Just a chapter or so.

... and I see I'm 70% of the way through the book and think, well, I'll finish it tomorrow if I read another 5%...

... and then I'm at 80% and I think, well, this is pretty damn compelling, ten more minutes won't hurt...

... and then I'm at 90% and, well, you know how it is, I may as well just finish the book at that point...

And then I finish. Awesome. Stayed up a little later than I should have, sure, but it can't have taken me that lon- HOLY SHIT IT'S 9.30AM AND LECTURES STARTED A HALF HOUR AGO.

... how much did I read to "help me drift off", I wonder. Oh, just 200 pages.

FUCK.

Please tell me this happens to you guys too.

I never could sleep. Even when I was a kid, I would annoy my parents by having these nights when I wouldn't get to sleep and would keep whining about it.

Now that I'm an adult, I'm the guy who volunteers for night shift. It usually means more money, and I'm comfortable with it. I've reached the point where sleep isn't a thing I think I have to do at certain times, it is just a thing I do when I feel like it is time.

I was going to put down Catch-22 last night, then I realised the next chapter was the Eternal City, which is my favourite in anything ever. Carried me through till four. A couple of times I've read something through a single night, mostly last year though. Flicking ahead to count chapters is always dangerous.

Looks like you need to manage your pre-sleep hours better.

Yeah, I'm pretty much the same. Everyone thinks I'm a little mental for beginning problem sheets at 5am or something, but hey, it works for me.

Catch-22 is amazing, can't blame you for getting caught up. It's a bad habit though - books should be savoured, not just devoured, but I can't help it.

You know that sanctimonious crap you come out with every time you turn up? Yeah, leave it at the door. Ty bbz <3

This sounds like one of those vapid things you see on a day time talk show like Doctor Oz.

"Studies show that people who pick their nose for at least one hour every afternoon sleep better during the proper government appointed hours."

Pfft woah buddy. I get it's finals and you're stressed, but if you stay up all night wrestling with an overstimulated mind, then you're never going to have a productive healthy sleep cycle, and me telling you that shouldn't bother you.

Love,
The guy up at 4am working.

It's like having satan's salty spoon turn my ass into a wind tunnel.

Don't even ask what I mean by that for I have no clue, I just hope I conjured disturbing and vivid imagery i'm stressed.
