I would like to make a mermaid rp, but I would love to have some help with it! Maybe some peoples can help me come with a rp more than just a simple mermaid one! It could be really cool X3

ideas so far-

  • I think I have an 'idea' for the magic system. Like, instead of commanding elemental powers, you control sea creatures through magic objects. Like you could command normal fishes through a small, easily enchanted flute. Dolphins with a horn passed on from generation to generation. Eventually there would be relics from a long lost civilization of mer-people (Atlantis?). Those relics could summon ancient beasts from the depths like a Kraken, Leviathan or whatever they call that guardian of Atlantis in the Disney Animation? Again, it's just a suggestion.
  • Further wouldn't it be much more interesting that there is just one 'ocean kingdom' where all sorts of sentient sea creatures can live? (like mermaids and mermen, but also half-octopusses (looking at your there, ursula)). Who then, for some reason, go to war with the humans living at the coast. So people could chose which side they take? (humans having 'advanced weaponry like basic gunpowder muskets and cannons and mermaids having magic)
  • war caused because a human Prince kidnaps a mermaid

coding so far-

For ages, man tried to dominate the sea. They have built ever greater ships and sails and thought that they could whip the waves into submission. They were wrong. The people of the seas bonded together and for as long as anyone could remember, mer-people and humans have fought. Humans made ever greater ships, and mer-people commanded ever greater beasts of the waters to destroy those ships. Land and water were heading for their own destruction. It was only a matter of time until one of both would have to pay the ultimate price.
The cataclysm. What happened is unknown. Only the consequences could be seen. Atlantis, the capital of the Oceans. A metropolis and center of wisdom and magic. Home of the coral throne and the great Crafts guilds. All was destroyed and erased. Now only a husk of the once great city remains. Guarded by the reaper that was supposed to protect.

The humans never knew about the destruction of Atlantis. But from one day to the other, all resistance stopped. Ships were no longer attacked and mer-people were no longer seen. After only a year humans came to the coasts, making fishing villages and profiting from the bountiful seas. Oversea colonies were made on far away, tropical islands and the human kingdom flourished. The war was over. The Golden Age began.

But under the waves, this time was known as the Age of Lament. The mer-people had lost their Guardians. Lost most of their Relics. Lost Atlantis, their homes. No mermaid, naga or other sea creature dared approach Atlantis and all scattered around the world. Until a new dynasty rose. Far enough from old Atlantis to not disturb the Leviathan, but close enough to look like a phoenix risen from his ashes, a new city was born. And the mer-people regrouped under their one king. Though obviously this meant a new war. And for a time the human ships, colonies and coastal villages were attacked and raided. Both sides understood that something had to stop. Lest one of both had to pay the ultimate price again.

But will the peace last? Or will those opposed to it annihilate the fragile peace? And if so, is it simply to cause chaos and war? Or can victory be won?

In this rp, there is to be a war between humans and the mer-people. It has not yet begun. But shortly will. The mer-kings advisor, Arios , tricks the princess into kidnapping the human prince. Causing the war to break out between them.

The humans have access to firearms, such as medieval guns, and
Cannons. While the mer-people use their magic. Most mer-people really do not have direct magic powers, only Sea Witches and Humacampus can use magic of their own. Naga's and Cercean's have truly no magic abilities. But they have physical traits that are meant for defense and war. While Mermaids, normally have special relics passed down through their family for generations. These relics are becoming rarer and rarer with each generation. The art to make them had nearly become
Entirely lost. These relics are instruments, their most often forms are as flutes or horns. When played correctly, these instruments can control certain types of sea creatures. Playing the song differently can cause these creatures to
Do different things. Usually the animals are smaller, schools of fish, dolphins, eels. Being able to control things such as Sharks or Whales is extremely rare.

Mer-people

Sea-Witches

half-Ocotopusses. Sea-witches, known for dancing on the edges of black magic. Gifted and powerful, a sea-witch can achieve a lot through her magic, though is shunned by most others.

Mermaids

half-fishes. Or standard mermaids and mermen. They are the most numerous and thus are the ethnic majority. Most use their magic to influence the sea creatures around them. Often with special objects like a flute, horn or bell.

Cerceans

half-lobsters. Or Cerceans. They have an armored tail and back, with powerful muscles. Soldiers and warriors, bred for war and battle. During peace time they serve as guards. Though they aren't really gifted in the magic of the seas.

Regorians

Salamander people. They prefer to stay in the shallower waters. Mostly in lakes and rivers. Just like mermaids, they don't have legs. But neither do they have fins on their tales. Instead they 'walk' the bottoms. They can swim with membrane between their fingers. Regorians are pretty agile and surprisingly fast. If you want to meet a Regorian as human, you just need to put a big rock in shallow water and during a sunny day a Ragorian will definitely be sunbathing on it.

Naga

Naga are half Serpent. A rarer species of mer-people. Due to the lack of females among them. Which makes it hard for them to reproduce, and increase their population. They swim differently than all other mer-people. Instead of tail strokes that move up and down, like a whale or Dolphin, their tails move from side to side. Whip like, like that of an eel's body. Normally, they have webbed hands, with long spike like fins, close to what you would find on the back of a bass, growing up their back and arms. As they age, these 'fins' grow longer. Making it easier to tell age. Naga have the ability to go on land. When on dry earth, they're tails can be used more like a snake bottom half, that can easily move them over sand or any sort of terrain. Often thought to be thieves and criminal's, in reality, most wish to serve their kingdom.

Humacampus

Humacampus are half Sea Horse. From the torso down, they have curled tails. From that of a Sea Horse. just like there are different species of Sea horse. There are different species of Humacampus. Some have long fans of seaweed like skin hanging from their backs or arms. Nearly like a natural dress. Normally, the skin is off set, colored the pattern in which their tail is. Naturally, they have small healing abilities that make them valued among nearly every type of mer-people.

Guardians

The Kraken

The Kraken. The First. Alpha. The knowledge around its birth was destroyed together with Atlantis. This ancient, one-eyed monster’s tentacles often cast the last shadow over those unfortunate enough to enter its grounds. For those with a little more foolish fightning spirit, the Kraken has another weapon. Its mouth. With 5 rows of viciously sharp teeth it can shred you to pieces before you even fall into its stomach. Feared and infamous, the Kraken now lays dormant at the Trench. Waiting for the One Song to wake it up.

Jormungand

Serpent. End. Slayer of the Alfather. Jormungand is a massive sea-serpent. The Norn thought that its body kept the seas together. Jormungand is far less known that his cousin, the Kraken. Though equally, if not more dangerous. He prefers to play with its prey, winding around a ship and see who will jump and who will fight. His spit is also toxic. The Great Serpent also lays beneath the Trench, waiting for the Song of Ragnarok to wake it up.

Leviathan

Guardian. Destroyer. Traitor. Misguided One. Many suspect that Leviathan was the cause of the destruction of Atlantis. The massive lobster is surprisingly agile in the water. It was once the great guardian of Atlantis. No human ship could even near the legendary city without encountering this destructive force given shape. Now, after Atlantis’ Doom, the Leviathan still roams the waters, protecting the Sunken City’s secrets. Unlike his brothers, Leviathan doesn’t need to be woken up. Instead, it needs new orders, given to him through an unknown song. Leviathan is said to be the strongest of the three.

Eldrich

An old story still told by gibbering old human and mere-people women alike. “Before this city. Before our king. Before Atlantis. Before the three Ancients, there was Eldrich. He gave birth to the three Ancients. And they began to roam the oceans.” Is the only few sentences left about the story. For some odd reason, both humans and mer-people know about Eldrich. Though his existences has never been proven. There were never sightings of him. Only a few self-proclaimed prophets. Though, if Eldrich is real, the creatures of the world have good reason to fear him.

Rules

  • Guild Rules are my rules
  • Please be as active as possible
  • No overpowered characters, even those this is a fantasy rp. Try to be as realistic as possible, with what your character can handle. If your character is stupid, and does something risky, they're not going to come out untouched! But on that note, don’t make it that every time your character gets into a fight they have a near death experience. It ruins the type of dramatic effect that comes from your character dying, or nearly dying.
  • Your Mer-character may have elaborate colors, and unnatural ones. Because they as magical creatures. However, your human characters must have realistic colors for hair and skin and eyes. I will accept more unique eye colors than other things however.
  • No OOC fighting please, if you and someone else are having a problem, please take it somewhere else. I will not tolerate others being rude to their fellow guild members.
  • There is no character limit. But please only make as many as you handle. Because for each post about one character has to be at least a pargraph (five sentences)
  • If you want to do something that will greatly influence another persons character, (making a family member, killing them, etc) please clarify it with the owner of the character first.
  • Go ahead and rp all the NPC’s you wish! But the same rules apply for them as your own characters. Make sure to have at least five sentences for their post. And if you find yourself rping them a lot, please go ahead and make their form.
  • When making a character with a relic that has magical properties, you have to write at least 8 sentences about it. Including its history, what it is, and what it does.

First, Last name

Nickname, opt.

Age

Gender

Sexuality

Mer-What kind of mer-person is your character, if human just state so

Enter the information of your characters personality here. It must be at least 6-8 sentences long.

Enter the information of your characters appearance. You may simply have a picture here, or if you write it, the description needs to be at least 10 sentences long.

Please enter any additional information here, such as Family, history, this is also where magical items would be.

Well, elemental powers would be kind of useless, don't you think? I mean, what's air or fire going to do underwater? It feels as if water is the only useful one there. If you'd like i could think about it some and come up with some suggestions.

Further wouldn't it be much more interesting that there is just one 'ocean kingdom' where all sorts of sentient sea creatures can live? (like mermaids and mermen, but also half-octopusses (looking at your there, ursula)). Who then, for some reason, go to war with the humans living at the coast. (ps: would you make it a free or a casual RP?)

@Legion02

(I would like to make this a casual rp, I thought I was advanced X3 than I saw the rp's in the advanced sections)

Yeah your right on those notes(about fire and wind) Maybe such things as lightning, water, ice, etc. could be useful. Wind could be useful when battling against those who are on land. And I agree with the other creatures (such as ursula X3), and also about the battle with the humans. Those would be very interesting. Why would they be fighting though? Maybe the humans wanted the kingdom to obey them and basically do their bidding (maybe such a irrogation) at first they were happy to help, but maybe the humans began to get greedy, and wished to take them more as slaves instead of working companions.

@Legion02Yeah, it's the Leviathan. I really like that idea, each family could have maybe a certain connection to different animals, or parts of the ocean. And maybe the Kingdom could be a Monarchy, and the royal blood line could have some of these beasts blood in them (from like thousands of years ago) maybe allowing them to do things that the Kracken would be able to do, etc. Like summon lightning for example. It could be a way to tell who is apart of the bloodline

Why stop and just summoning a bit of lightning? I'm pretty sure that if you'd summon a kraken, an entire storm would grow.

Anyway, on to the plot: we could do a Helena of Troy?

Well it's the start of the war with Troy. Wellp, story time:

As you probably know, the gods of Olympus weren't really nice to eachother. So at one time the 3 main women had a little competition. They wanted to know who was the most beautiful. They let Paris decide. Paris was the youngest prince of Troy. The 3 godesses were Hera, Athena and Aphrodite. They each offered a gift. What the first two offered didn't really matter cause they lost. Aphrodite offered him the most beautiful woman of Greece: Helen (Or Helena). Now, there is just one tiny problem. Helen was already promised to the Macedonian king. Though Paris, the clever bastard that he is, kidnaps her and brings her to Troy. The Macedonian King was obviously furious and unleash the entire greek might upon Troy. Only to battle before its walls for many (8?) years. Until Odysseus comes up with this clever plan to fake a retreat and offer them a present. The rest is the common known legend of Troy.

So moral of the story? Youngest prince fell in love, kidnapped woman and unleash all hell on his city. Though some would say that Helen did love Paris.

@Legion02I was thinking the same thing, the only issue would be, wouldn't they drown? Or do you think we could say that the mermaid had found a way to clear the water out of a underwater cave or something, to turn it into his home?

Magic often finds a way. Maybe like make a bubble of air around his head and indeed, some cave with a natural pocket of air.

@Legion02 And of COURSE he needs to fall in love with the mermaid at the end of it all X3 just because, even though i have a feeling, that at the end of their little story, it'll be tragic. and awesome. All at the same time X3

ummmmm.... what else should we plan out?

Okay I'm back! Also, the whole love thing seems fun. But I'd make the plot a bit more larger. Again, i'm going to use Troy as an example.

A war has a reason and a cause. The reason is what's filling the bucket up. For WW1 the reason was a mixture of hate towards several countries as well as vying to get more land. The cause (or trigger) was the death of the crown prince of Austria-Hungary. If he didn't die, someone else would have within 3 years and there still would have been a war.

With Troy it was sort of the same if you look passed the legend. Greek had to pay taxes to go through Troy, who was strategically placed at the enterance to the black sea. Greece long wanted this position for itself. The kidnapping of Helen was just the trigger for this.

I'd suggest to do the same with the mermaids. The princess is tricked into kidnapping the human prince. Because some evil advisor of the mermaid king advises her to do so. Of course humans become furious and attack, giving the advisor (who might also be the leader of the troops) a reason to retaliate and start conquering the shores.

@Legion02it makes sense! Now, would the adviser just be wanting to prove himself in battle? Or gain more power or what? What would be his official drive?

Depends on who he is. A war-adicted veteran of a war will gladly cause Chaos and destruction just so he can ride the battlefield and savour the blood of his enemies one more time. A greedy advisor would see the riches the human ships transport: pearls, gems, gold, silver. War brings loot. That would be his true nature. If he feels truly ambitious he could make an elaborate plot. Where the princess kidnaps the prince in secret, the humans retaliate. The mermaid king will be forced to act and a war breaks out. A few months into the war most will have enough of it already. Then the advisor could reveal that the princess kidnapped the human prince, thus giving her father a reason for his war. This way the king looks war hungry and that weakens his status with the people. The advisor, who gained status by revealing the 'plot' would try to take over and thus rule as the new king.

His demeanor or how he presents it would probably be more 'for the good of the kingdom' or 'think of the children'. Great evils often hide behind good concepts like honor and justice.

@Legion02maybe he could believe that the king is going to destroy their kingdom? Such as bringing them into a dark time. His actions, to himself, would be justified because he believes he is doing what is best for his kingdom. When really, he's the one that is causing all the chaos.

Or possibly, say he had a daughter or son that was once in a war controlled by the king. And his daughter/son was killed in battle. He could blame the king for the death of his only chil, And simply seek revenge

It depends on how evil you want the villain to be. Is he greedy and wants power or is it vengeance for a loved one. It all really depends on how you want the villain.

Personally I'd say, keep the villain evil enough. Vengeance, in the sight of some, justifices a lot. And if it doesn't justify it, people will at least understand and feel somewhat sypmathetic towards the villain. Which is good to a height.

Are there any other things to discuss actually? We're doing plot now and i think we did a little world building. Would there be anything else?
