Deep space travel was never really a pleasant thing. large amounts of time wasted doing nothing while the ship went in a relatively straight line in a single direction for days or months on end. For deep space travel, Cryo oddly enough was still preferable than actually being awake the entire time. Well for passengers at least, actual crew still had to man their stations and not everything was safe to leave up to computers to handle. Waking up from cryo was the worst. Most people called it hibernation sickness, though doctors would argue that it's not actually a sickness and more or less just your body waking up after several months of being asleep. Whatever it was called it wasn't pleasant. That tingly feeling that happened when a limb didn't get proper circulation and fell asleep happened so often and so erratically there was never really any part of you that wasn't unpleasant to use. Couple that with the sensation of being drunk but no actual happy buzz to go with it and you were left with a body that felt slow and sluggish to respond, and unpleasant when it did respond. People found themselves fighting through a haze just to go about menial daily things like getting dressed. This hibernation sickness as people called it lasted for a whopping 6 to 7 hours, and that was with medication. Without it, lasted for around the better part of a week giver or take a few days depending on a person's size. Bottom line, Hibernation sickness sucked and all the miners were going through it right now as they sat in a blurred haze in medical getting poked and prodded by docs trying to stave off the "Sickness" as it was so often called. Whoever thought it would be nice to sleep non stop for about a month never traveled deep space.

After the poking and prodding was done, the mining team was herded through a corodore of bright lights and dark figures as needles were jabbed into their arms, injecting them with chemicals and medications. In actuality they were ushered down the hall while doctors with medicine injected them in a sort of assembly line fashion. Keeping track of time like this though wasn't likely to happen. And what felt like a disjointed couple of minutes or hours turned into a sudden sense of clarity as the shock from the landing craft being jettisoned from the ship rocked through the miners as the landing craft plummeted through the thick atmosphere of Corona. They were scheduled to touch down in an assembly outpost that had been built to accept orbital drops. Or well that was the plan. Plans on frontier worlds rarely ever went as smoothly as anyone ever liked, if they even went at all.

As they plummeted towards the ground, Jack was slow to come out of his haze. The jarring started him on the process and things were beginning to clear up a lot more now, but leaning down to reach under his seat to get into a supply cache of cigars felt like he was climbing some kind of mountain with no O2 tank to combat the high altitude. But jack, jack needed his fix. He needed that taste in his mouth. After what felt like ages he finally managed to pull one out and shut the case as he leaned back up and into his seat. Slipping the cigar into his mouth and gnawing on the thing now firmly planted in his mouth. Though as the full clarity of the situation kicked in, he saw that "No Smoking" sign looming over his head as if it was some nun with a ruler at a private school. He barely even registered the sudden rapid impacts that were happening on one side of the landing craft as it descended from the heavens.

Arik's hibernation sickness, thanks to his size and the medications, was wearing off well. Now it was mostly the injections that were bothering him. Arik had never liked needles, so being forced to get them for the sake the job was a difficult process for him. Falling through atmosphere toward a new planet, the only thing on his mind was the pain in his arms. He needed to take his mind off it.

Arik noticed one of his crewmates, Jack if he was remembering correctly, reaching under his seat to pull out a cigar. Reaching under his own seat Arik could feel the leather cover of one of his axe blades. He pulled both his axes from the storage, as well as his chess piece. Placing the piece in his pocket, Arik kept the axes on his lap, running his hands over them. The landing craft rocked, breaking Arik's attention away from his tools and toward the job again. They would be on the ground soon, and he would be ready.

Connor’s eyes were open, yet he couldn’t see a thing; except a grey haze. His shoulder socket was throbbing, and he grabbed it, hoping to relieve the pain. Sitting up after being frozen for a few months is the second worst thing Connor has ever experienced; the first being the time his arm was blown off. Everything was spinning, and his stomach attempted to empty itself, but Connor hasn’t consumed any solid food since before he was put into hibernation.

Once his vision focused, Connor attempted to stand, but his legs were weak from the long period of inactivity and he had to used the pod as a support. The crew of doctors and nurses pushed, poked, and tugged him and the other miners; pumping them full of medicines to relieve the hibernation sickness. His head was pounding, his muscles ached, and his stomach wanted to turn inside out, but the one nurse said at worst it would only last for a couple more hours.

Finally, Connor was ushered into a seat near the other miners. The nurse told them to secure themselves, as the ship was about to enter Corona’s atmosphere. Connor saw that all the miners’ belongings were stored under their individual seats. Connor reached under and retrieved his cybernetic arm, and attached it to the socket that was installed in his left shoulder. As Connor stretched his robotic limb making sure it was connected properly, the entire ship started to shake. Connor knew they would be landing soon, and he secured himself into the seat.

The ghostly phantoms of disrupted circadian rhythms danced a waltz in Kelly's head. She acted in an almost autonomous state as her brain tried to find purchase on a solid foundation as she numbly strapped her self into her seat. Kelly MacLise had read about "The Sickness" but she had never experienced the phenomenon first hand. She knew it was primarily thought to be caused by a chemical imbalance caused by the cocktail of sedatives used to prepare one for cryosleep and despite several well funded research campaigns nothing has come in the way of a permanent solution. The drugs that were injected right after being awoken assisted in the process but were not the cure that everyone was looking for. So it was a facet of travel and colonization that humanity had to deal with in this new golden age of exploration as historians were so fond to call it.This knowledge of the problem and cause of her fatigue of course did nothing but add to her frustration as she knew nothing could fix her problems at this point except for time.

The intense physical fatigue had made the last several minutes, maybe hours, seem like a large smudged blur like spilled ink in water. She remembered being awoken from cyro and having to practically been dragged out of her pod. If she recalled correctly there was a lot of vomiting and sweating as her body tried to come over the shock. It was a rather unpleasant way to be awakened back into the world of the living. In those first few moments she felt as if maybe her parents were right and she wasn't at all ready for this. Soon though she didn't have much time to think about anything as she was ushered forward unceremoniously to the next point in her journey without much time to adjust. Time was money after all. She faintly remembered talking her first wobbly steps down the hallway as she entered the inoculation area. She tried to focus on the labels and names of the ensuing barrage of drugs and accelerants that were pumped into her body. This act of mental prowess soon failed as all her eyes were able to focus on were the hues within of the liquids getting pumped in: blues, greens, scarlet, purples, and yellows all vanishing into her body.

After they finished the formalities they were pushed along to the landing craft, the loud drone of voices and machinery getting further and further away. They found there way into a dark crowded space where they were directed to seat down. Soon afterwards the trail of assistants and supervisors vanished without a scant work of good lock as the pressurized door locked behind them. There was a lurch as the floor beneath them shook before they were jettisoned into space. Kelly looked around at her flower miners, explores and the like still in a dream like haze, they were all gruff muscular types with serious eyes currently glazed over from the sickness. Kelly herself felt like the odd one out and tried to block out her own insecurities reminding herself that she was chosen for this job just as much as they were. Her body still sluggish and non responsive it took great effort to bring the industrial strength seatbelt across her chest but anything was a welcomed diversion from her own mind still fraught with worry and doubt in the moment.

As the belt was secured with a resounding click Kelly rested her head back trying to recenter herself. She fought for a deep breath of air to fill her lungs before expunging it outwards her body in its altered state having to push with the force of an Olympian to seemingly get anything done. She focused only on her breathing and the world around her in an attempt to barricade her own thoughts away. She listened to the others breathing most sounding as weighted down and straggling as hers. She listened to the landing craft as it made its descent trying her best not to think of all the horror stories she has heard of pilots messing up the descent angle by one degree only to have their entire craft, crew and cargo disintegrate in a force of flame. The rumbling increased as time slowly progressed and Kelly closed her hands waiting for the whole damn process to be over so that she could her feet on solid ground.

"uh it's not good, it doesn't look good" were the first words Jack actually heard that he could comprehend as he felt the shaking of the craft become more and more violent. the voice was coming from the copilot of the craft. and although the voice was soft and somewhat distant due to the door being in the way, he could still make it out as the the copilot watched a massive storm reaching into the very heavens materialize around them as they broke through a layer of clouds. Jack couldn't see anything going on outside but that was perhaps for the best. "It's a Monarch!" he heard with a bit more clarity just before something rocked the craft rather violently and they started to spin somewhat slowly. "We're coming apart, something just took off our wing! we're going down!" he could hear the pilot more clearly as he called in their situation on the radio to the colonies down on the surface and perhaps to the ship above as well. He could hear the copilot keep calling out "mayday" into the coms shortly before the sound of sheering metal was heard and the two sections of the landing craft were split in half. the cargo section where everyone was started spinning a bit more as it became separated from the control section.

Red lights flickered on as the air became electrified and the harnesses keeping the passengers in their seats hummed to life as artificial gravity generators kicked on in an effort to minimize any damage that may come to them. the pod tried to deploy it's emergency chutes but the frigid air coupled with the intense storm made short work of them. Next came several violent impacts as the cargo bay crashed into something, this triggered, all be it by acident" a set of retrograde thrusters, slowing the severed section down quite a bit before coming to a stop.

all the jolting and jostling around sobered jack up quite a bit. nothing like the feeling of getting punched in the gut to wipe away a hangover and bring one to one's senses. They'd landed alright, that was for certain.

Of the remaining symptoms of Arik's hibernation sickness, a pounding headache was the most bothersome. His body still felt cumbersome, and some of his limbs still felt the tingling numbness sensations, but those weren't as much of an issue to him. The headache robbed him of most of his awareness to the world around him, slowed his thoughts. Coupled with the increasing rumbling and rocking of their craft, Arik's skull felt ready to split open. He was having a difficult time in doing so, but knew he needed to pay attention in case of any unplanned event. Through the fog of his pounding head and the noises coming from the landing craft, Arik managed to make out the word Monarch, being exclaimed from the cockpit.

The ship was being torn apart, they would be plummeting the rest of the way to the ground, and there was a chance the whole crew could die in an electrical storm. "Scheiße!" Arik exclaimed, showing his frustration at the whole situation. As safety measures of the craft activated he felt more at ease, and what seemed doom when the cargo bay crashed midair turned out to be a blessing in disguise as the thrusters kicked to life. Their section of the destroyed ship slowed before its landing, though it was still a rough one.

With a sigh of relief, Arik was the first to attempt to get out of his seat. As he tried releasing the latch to unfasten his safety harness, he realized that it was stuck, seeming to have been damaged somehow in the landing. "Just vat I need now..," Arik complained as he reached for his axe, grabbing the handle and using the serrated knife below it to cut through the belt. He stood and looked over his crewmates, then spoke as he began to check under his seat again, "Alright people, zat vas some crash, but vee need to shtart getting ready for vatefer's out zere." He grabbed hold of his environment suit and cabal wrist computer, standing again and beginning to don the suit.

With the worst of the hibernation sickness having worn off, Connor sat, awaiting their arrival on the surface. Then the ship started to shake violently, more so than an average reentry. Connor hears over the intercoms the word Monarch. Connor exclaimed, “Monarch! That’s bad! Right?” Moments later, Connor received his answer when there's an explosion leaving him deafen. The ride after that became increasingly more rough as this section of the ship flew through the tyrannical storm away from the rest of the ship.

Connor could not help that he started to scream, but not out of fear. It was the kind of adrenaline fueled scream of a child experiencing his first rollercoaster. Connor even went as far as to throw his hands in the air. Then, like all great rides; it ended too quickly, as the descent slowed and they made a rough, yet successful landing. Connor roars out in laughter, “What a beautiful welcome from Corona herself!”

With death knocking at the door, causing a large surge of adrenaline flowing through Connor’s body, any lingering symptoms of the hibernation sickness vanish into the wicked winds. As the other miner across from him released his harness, Connor did the same. The miner continues on to utter some gibberish, as Connor retrieved his environmental suit and cabal wrist computer. Quickly, Connor changed into the suit and attached the computer to his left wrist, and look towards the others awaiting a response.
