Space in the 23rd century is a lot like the sea was in the 17th century. It takes weeks or months to get anywhere, and many planets, islands of the stars, are ruled by petty kings. We fight these petty kings, raiding their space ships and taking what we want.

Cool. I was thinking of having the main crew escape prison and steal a ship together. This ship will be a stealth freighter which uses solar and tachyon sails to move without being detected outside 10 km from it, when you can see it with external cameras. It was a slave ship that was secretly buying prisoners from the governor of the lunar penal colony.

Would this work for your character?

So there is some kind of air bubble generator I assume? That kind of science fantasy technology to allow for an open deck?

There are force fields and the like if you want keep air in a open area, like the surface of a barren planet with a bad atmosphere, but our ship will be built more like a submarine, with starboard, port, top, and bottom sails, though there are viewpoints.
The ship will have solar sails, for normal propulsion, tachyon sails, for FTL propulsion (they compress space in front of them and expand it behind by moving tachyons from the front to the back). It will also get magnetospheric drives later that will work much better, but at the cost of power and making us visible. It will have broadside a swivel cannons, though, but they will be of the rail-gun kind, not the powder kind.

A "Treasure Planet" style ship would be way lopsided and hard to keep straight.
