Name: Edict, the Witch Hunter

Race: Human

Age: 31

Gender: Male

Appearance: Tall at 6'2. Muscular at 185 pounds. Short, trimmed brown hair. Short, trimmed beard covering the lower half of his face. Lightening shaped scar strecthing from the left side of his face, over his eye that has no pupil, and ending over his right eye. Has several burns and scars all over his body. Has a marking on the back of his neck.

Clothing/Armor: Edict wears light weight armor. The armor is black. He also carries a magic resistant Shield that is also light weight, but can block pretty much any magic unless it's a super, whole city flattening attack.

Weapons: On Edict's back he sheaths his sword. His sword is an anti-magic long sword. It can deflect magic in the same manner as his shield. It also deals more damage to magical beings by converting the mana (or whatever magical thing they draw their energy from) the magical being is using into physical energy. Otherwise, it is a regular long sword. He also carries a set of daggers on his belt that, on a hit, drains a magical being's energy.

Alignment: Neutral

Skills/Abilities: Edict has been trained almost all of his life to be a magical being hunter. He is an expert at tracking them, spotting their flaws, and exploiting them. He is essentially an anti wizard. He can enhance weapons to be anti magic and create anti magic potions and poisons. He is not, however, a master swordsman. Edict is an above average swordsman. He would easily defeat an average sword wielder, but would most likely lose to a master swordsman. He relies more on his agility than brute strength, but he's not a push over. He is very athletic. While being very skilled at his craft, Edict is not yet a master. He still has much to learn.

Magic: Other than the anti magic items he wields, Edict has an anti magic seal on the back of his neck that protects him from any mind manipulations that magic beings may attempt on him.

Backstory: Edict was born to a legendary Witch Hunter named Dacun. Dacun taught Edict from birth about the ways of the Witch Hunter. But, Edict just wanted to have regular life. So, at 18, Edict ran away from his father and the way of the Witch Hunter. He started a family and became a farmer.

When the war started, the region that Edict and his family lived in was one of the first to be attacked. Edict's family was killed and Edict was left to die. Facing found him and nursed him back to health. Dacun quickly refreshed Edict on the ways of hunting witches. They fought together and were one of the main reasons for Anjoel's defeat. However, before escaping, Jeltheor managed to kill Dacun.

Now, after 5 years of hunting and honing his skills, Edict comes to Waeldeshore after hearing the rumors about Jeltheor and the strange happenings. He is here to finally avenge his family and his father, and become his own legend.

@Elitestpotato I do like the concept of your character, however I do have a few questions.

What exactly is his armor and weapons made of and what makes them so special that they can not only deflect magic, but also drain their attacker? I do understand that he has trained nearly all of his life to fight against the mages, however he sounds a bit overpowered - Even if they are lower tier spells that would be deflected, put him up against any mage, and between the dampening of damage and draining of energy, Edict would always win. And if this is the case, wouldn't they outfit the rest of the town with these weapons and armor to end magic for good?

Also to answer your question, it ended roughly 10 years ago. It wasn't a war that spanned over a long period of time. there were certainly tensions and squabbles that then led to a full blown out war, that I'd say perhaps lasted just over a few months?

@IcePezz Well, his equipment is enhanced by him. The process to enhance them is long, tedious, and requires a master to do properly. In fact, the only two people Edict knows can do this is himself and Dacun. I mean, its the same reason he doesn't have this huge arsenal of weapons. They take a lot of time to enhance them that way. Also, he would wreck a mage. That's pretty much the point. But if that mage were to summon a demon swordsman? That puts him at a huge disadvantage. Without the anti magic he's essentially a regular every day knight Without the heavy armor.

@Elitestpotato The character is interesting, no doubt about that, however the combination of abilities is unfortunately impractical in its current format for this particular setting.

I'm still a bit confused on how the armor and weapons are enhanced. Coming from neverwinternights for so long, mages and non mages practiced in what was known as alchemical enchantments, would this be like what you're describing? It was a lengthy process indeed and required certain rare materials, dependent on the enchantment. However it took a mage to become a master enchanter mostly because of the advantages of the class and the specifics and understanding of the trade. Edict's only weakness is that he is an 'above average' swordsman, so he's still better than most and only the best can defeat him. And to me, that is still op.

One thing I get from this is that he would need a very powerful mage to make it, not only that but.. As a way out, I would think that an 'intensive' suit of armor would eventually ware down the clothing, like charges on an item, right? So, I would say either it's just not practical long term, or perhaps it can be limited in some way? Perhaps something that would wear off? So what does a smart mage do? A smart mage waits until his ability wares off before trying to fight him head on with magic. Or... Perhaps it could be an ability that only takes affect when he can lock eyes with the mage? Or something to that affect. Basically things that make it not automatic, like instead there are situations that a mage can use in order undo them.

I'm almost done with the first post, yay!! :D
one change however, I'm changing the timeline slightly from 10 years after the war ended to 5 years. This makes a bit more sense for the condition of the island. @Strafe I don't think this will effect your character too much, you could either just change the age to correspond with the timeline change, or just change the age she was pregnant- either way, both will fit with the story. But if you have any concerns, pm me.

@IcePezz no prob, I think it might even be more interesting if it was only 5 years ago. I'll change the character sheet to match.

@IcePezz Do you already have an idea for continents and kingdoms outside of Waeldeshore? I have an idea for my character but I don't want to mess up any of your plans.

@nald at the moment, I haven't expanded on anything outside of the island. But you're more than welcome to join the rp, I'd be happy to hear your ideas. I'm sure they'd fit :)

@AiyvaGuardif you want to keep her at age 14, I wouldn't be opposed based on your character background. Otherwise I'm sure we can find a suitable way to change her age while keeping the spirit of your character alive and intact.

@IcePezz I was thinking of having a kingdom that's led by a religious government, like the Vatican City. It would be really big on crusades and inquisitions, being discriminant against other religions and forces conversion through execution or torture. Would this be fine?

@IcePezz Yes, that is pretty much what you would need to do to enhance items in the same manner. And that is not his only weakness. His "only" weakness is that he is only outfitted for killing mages, witches, and the like. If you send anything else at him, he's about as useful as a regular soldier. He'd be like a Vampire Hunter fighting werewolves. But, if it calms your worries the armor can just be regular armor as long as the sword and shield keep their abilities. Also, the 5 years would affect my character, no? It's kinda hard to become a master in 5 years.

@nald i would just ask that you be careful with the religions that you use. I haven't put much focus onto religion in our setting, but someone else had asked about the factor of different faiths. All I ask is that you keep this in mind when making your character. Maybe there can be a temple dedicated to the faith within town, especially if it's that big of one where an entire kingdom is led by it. Write up a bit of a cs so I can get a sense of how it would fit. I don't think you'll have that much of an issue, but if need be, we'll tweak things.

@Elitestpotato for the overall story, I do think that 5 years fits better. 10 years after a war has settled might be too long of a time for things to be stirred up again. People would just be settling back into their lives, and the fear of magic is still fresh in their hearts.

As far as your character, I do prefer the idea of just having his sword and shield enhanced in such a way. It also may be mu ch more interesting of he was very very skilled, but perhaps gained mastery and his fullest potential when finally slaying jeltheor. But that is only my opinion. It is very hard to become a master of anything in just 5years, but anything is possible with the right drive. So I will leave that bit up to you.
