I suppose this all started three years ago, when Mark got his power. Yes, his name was Mark, fuck off. World was as it was supposed to be- Year 2025, everything goin’ normally, economy shit as always, and anyone you looked at funny was ready to punch you in the teeth. Good old earth. No meta humans, nothin’. The Mark came along. Kid had the ability to absorb kinetic energy, or something. He kept absorbing more and more power, and he got the idea in his sick and fuckin’ twisted skull that he’d absorb the Sun. Seems crazy, right? Until he did it. Seemed to everyone like the sun just blinked out of existence. That’s when the Dark Hour happened. The one hour of complete, monumental chaos. Mass scale rioting, total governmental collapses, some places launched nukes for no damned reason, in one fucking hour- All because some shitty ball of light disappeared. But after that hour, Mark… Suffice to say, he exploded. Wiped out all of Nevada, too. Turns out he couldn’t contain all that energy. He sent a huge shockwave all over the planet- It was like every damn place on earth got nuked. And after that? Then we started to realize- There were people with goddamn superpowers! Flight, radiation, fire, healing… It was crazy. Plus, things on this planet got… Weird. Mutated animals and shit, man. Plus, the Earth stayed warm. No one knows why- Once the sun disappeared, everyone figured it’d get real cold, real fast. But it’s been warm for three years, and it ain’t gettin’ any colder… And I guess that’s really as far as the story goes. Night, everyone. Remember to lock your doors.
Welcome to the world of Lights Out. A place where the sun has died and the world has changed. There a people with strange new powers in an even stranger world- Where do you stand in it? This roleplay takes place on the East Coast, three years after the one called ‘Mark’ blew up and changed everything. In and around the ruins of New York, Boston, and Washington D.C., it’s a day by day struggle to survive. This is the lovely little place of Post-Apocalyptia. It started out as a joking name. Gallows humor for sure, but it ended up sticking, and that’s what most of the northern East Coast is called now.

(D.C.)-The Bastion: A settlement in the DC ruins, of some old Prison. After Mark had his explosion the Prisoners escaped, and made the place into a bonafide fortress. You couldn’t get in there with anything short of a RPG and more men than you could count. It’s one of the safest places out there. Well, safe from the outside, anyway. Drugs, gambling, dog fights and all go on in there, and they send out some of the strongest raiding groups in Post-Apocalyptia.
(D.C.)-Big House: Inside and around what used to be the White House there’s the remnants of what used to be the U.S. government. A couple guys in suits with more secrets to hide than anybody. People flocked there after the explosion, and it’s turned into a thriving town, run by the ex-Government. They have farms, water, and a pretty good stockpile of weapons. Word is though, they got plans to start expanding- By force.
(D.C.)-The Mall: What used to be a collection of museums has become one of the largest cities in Post-Apocalyptia. They’re headed by a group of scientists who claim they can get the sun back, and they’re blindly followed by countless people. But what they have in numbers and resources they lack in conviction. The leaders don’t have much of a backbone, and rumor has it that a rebellion is on its way.
(BOSTON)-Faneuil Hall: In and around what once was Faneuil Hall in Boston is what has become what most consider a religious cult. Here they worship Mark as a god, saying he’s brought the second coming of humanity. They hail metahumans as the ‘enlightened’. Some say they’ll go to great lengths to convert those who they encounter.
(BOSTON)-’The Birds’: A collection of tiny settlements, constantly fighting with each other, all within the confines of Boston’s Logan Airport. Every settlement is armed to the teeth, and more than one has gotten their hands on one of the airports many planes.
(BOSTON)-Sanctuary: One of the safest places in Boston, held inside of Fenway Park. They offer Sanctuary to all those who come inside- Food, water, a safe place to life, impeccable security. But they say, something dark goes on inside the walls of Sanctuary…
(NEW YORK)-The Square: What was once Times Square has become a trading hub for survivors of the explosion. Dozens of shops line the square, selling goods like guns, ammo, food, and water. It’s the number one destination for trading caravans. No one really lives there except traders and one or two people hired to protect them. They live under constant threat of raiders.
(NEW YORK)-The Island: Locked down by a unit of the US military, what was once Ellis island is now a place for a select few survivors to hold down. They are extremely protected, but isolated. Their supplies of food and water and running out…
(NEW YORK)-Freedom: Freedom Tower, built where the Twin Towers once stood, is now inhabited by an elitist group of Super Humans, seeking to conquer the entire country under their whim. They’ve already taken significant portions of New York City.

Metahumans started popping up very soon after Mark’s explosion. No one’s entirely sure how it happens, but the general theory is they have something special about their genes that allow them to absorb all the residual energy Mark spit it, and everyone's body processes the phenomenal amount of energy differently. So far as anyone can tell, their powers can be nearly anything, be it flight, healing, telepathy, or even spontaneous combustion.
Metas are usually accepted by the population, but there are those who think otherwise, calling them ‘Freaks’ and being extremely mean or sometimes even violent towards them. To the same token, there are Metas who take extreme issue with normal humans.

-Growlers: Through some horrifying misfortune, Growlers are people who have become fused with dogs. Virtually all Growlers have lost any scrap of humanity and have been reduced to a completely feral state. They’re not terribly dangerous, as a bullet to the head could put one down, but if you let them get close, or if there is more than one, you may have a problem.
-Buzzers: Giant bees. Giant angry bees. That sometimes travel in groups. What more needs to be said?
-Titans: No one’s sure why these creatures came to be called Titans, but that’s how it happened. They are very slightly overgrown bears of various species that grew an addition skeletal structure on the outside of their bodies, effectively giving them armor.
-Saber Tooths: Cats that have grown back to the sizes they were back in the ice ages, with large, scary teeth.
-S-Munks: Chipmunks, that for one reason or another, produce silk like a spider.
-Terrors: It is unknown what Terrors originate from, but they’re arguably the dangerous mutations out there. They are the size of two full grown men, as strong as ten full grown men, and faster than even the fastest normal human. In addition, a few of them have camouflage, and all of them have a particular taste for human flesh.

-True Humans: A group called the ‘True Humans’ makes it their mission to eliminate all Metas. They’re virtually everywhere, every settlement, every town(spare, of course, the town of Freedom). They tend to try to appear as normal to those around them, preferring to operate in their meta killing affairs more quietly and stealthily. They’re supposedly lead out of Sanctuary, but no one is quite certain.
-The Anti-Freaks: Akin to the True Humans, they oppose Metas, but are more… Vocal about it. They have no form of centralized leadership, anyone who decides to call themselves an Anti-Freak is and Anti-Freak. The only consistent factor between their members is that they have an insatiable blood lust for Metahumans, and will attack them anywhere they spot them.
-The Black Dogs: Many, many Raider groups exist, but The Black Dogs are arguably the most powerful. They’re from The Bastion, and they’re the best raiders around. They’re absolutely merciless, and they’ll take whatever they want from you.
-The Masked: A group with a very small member count, no more than twenty or so of them, they’re a group of people trying to do good. They all wear masks, operating out of The Mall.
-Revolutionaries: The group attempting to overthrow The Mall’s government. They believe the Mall’s leadership is weak and must be thrown out by force. While they may offer a firmer hand to lead to a potential better version of the town, some residents are opposed to them, as they may feel that they are much too firm, willing to execute people for even the smallest offense.
-Timely Trading Company: A group of traders working from The Square. They have two bodyguards currently(and are always recruiting more). They run two trade caravans and own thirty seven percent of the stores in The Square.
