DWARVES!




Far away in mountain fair
There lives a wyrm, and in its lair
A treasure lies, its wealth untold
Of silver, glittering gems and gold

The greatest treasure of them all
Is said to be within this hall
The fist of Durin Hammerheld
The weapon that once giants felled

It’s up to us, we kin of stone
To travel to this mountain lone
And take back what is rightfully ours
This do we swear upon the stars

So come my brethren, forth we go
The blood of dragons may yet flow
When dwarvenkin, so bold and brave
Seek out old foe to vengeance crave



Welcome! In this game we will play as a party of dwarves going on a grand adventure to steal the treasure of an old dragon and reclaim a long lost heirloom. On the way we will encounter the mysterious elves in enchanted forests, menacing goblins in the dark underworld and many other magical beings. Together we will explore dwarven culture and share stories and songs around the campfire under starlit skies. There will be laughter, danger, bravery and blood. Join in if you want to partake in a classic epic fantasy adventure!

First off, then:



These Dwarves… Who Are They?

The dwarves are a subterranean humanoid species originating from the mountains around the world. They share many characteristics with humans (two eyes and ears, a nose, a mouth, two arms and two legs) but there are many features that tell them apart. Dwarves are normally no taller than 100cm (roughly 3 feet). They are hairier than humans, and all dwarves grow big beards. It is very hard, if not impossible, for humans to tell dwarven males from females. The dwarves themselves say it’s a matter of scent.

These subterranean creatures have a long lifespan of around 300 years, but are considered old at 100 and will remain so for the remainder of their lives. They can see perfectly even in complete darkness, because their eyes can register heat down to fractions of a degree. Dwarves are very sensitive to sunlight and prefer to stay indoors if possible. If not, they usually garb themselves with heavy clothes, covering as much as possible of their skin.

Dwarves are renowned for their supreme stonemasonry and blacksmithing. It is said that dwarven strongholds are carved from the rock of the mountains itself, and that dwarf-made steel never bends, breaks or dulls.

The dwarves are a traditional and superstitious lot. They are all about preserving things, and change comes very slow to them. Determining which stone to use in a mural can be a question for an entire generation of dwarves. They do not like to do things on a whim and will think the matter through thoroughly and then discuss it with their brethren before coming anywhere near a conclusion. Honor and honesty is also very important to dwarves. Losing face and bringing shame onto ones family is the greatest fear of any dwarf, sometimes even greater than the fear of death. There are no lengths a dwarf will not go to in order to preserve or restore its honor.

Dwarves are superstitious but not very religious. They do not worship any gods but take a keen interest in interpreting signs and omens from their environment. Falling stars, prophecies, natural phenomenon; the dwarves try to understand them all in their quest to understand the world around them. Many of these signs are attributed to their ancestors, and this is the closest thing have to divine worship. The dwarves revere their ancestors and do their best to preserve their memory. It is expected of a dwarf to know the names of the ones that came before it, and dwarven homes are covered from top to bottom with stone tablets containing runes that tell of the lives of dead family members. Giving respect to the ancestors is key in dwarven society and it is considered shameful to forget an ancestor’s name.

Another tradition of the dwarves is their musicality. Songs and tunes are a great way of remembering old friends and deeds, and so almost every dwarf is taught to sing and play an instrument. Common instruments among the dwarves are bagpipes, horns, fiddles, flutes and drums.

The one great flaw of the dwarves is something they are all very aware of, but at the same time silent about. It is only ever discussed with ones closest companions and always in the dark. There they tell of the dark deeds that some distant ancestor once committed to bring shame on its family. Greed is the greatest enemy of the dwarven people. It lives inside all of them and always shows its ugly face at the worst of times. Whenever confronted by the rumor or visage of wealth, a dwarf simply cannot help itself. It’s like a hungry dog looking at a bowl of food. If properly trained it will restrain itself, but not for long. The greed isn’t about spending the treasure on resources or using it to gain influence, it is simply about having it. Dwarves like to look at gold, they like to feel its weight in their hands and shiver when it slides through their fingers. They all have it, in various degrees, but they all fight it. It is their greatest shame, but also their greatest driving force.

Now, secondly:



What About The Rest Of The World?

The truth of the matter is that the dwarves don’t know much about what’s outside of their mountain halls. They are generally reclusive and only ever hear of the rest of the world on the rare occasions when travelers are let in and choose to share their stories with the dwarves. As such what little information they have is either strongly influenced by the person sharing it or completely untrue. Nevertheless, here follows what goes as common knowledge among the dwarves.

The outside world is a big place. It’s huge. It is in fact so huge that no one has ever seen the ceiling, or even the walls. The environment is prone to swift and sudden change which cannot be controlled; the sun goes up and down, it sometimes rains (or even worse, snows), and the temperature goes up and down without any reason at all. There are a lot of different plants and animals there which are also prone to swift and sudden change. The leaves on the trees change color, like the fur on the animals, sometimes many times a year. It is all very confusing.

Humans are tall people that sometimes grow beards and sometimes don’t. Their women can’t grow beards for some reason, or they simply refuse to (but why would they?). They live very short, very fast lives and don’t seem to stick to one thing for more than a couple of years. There’s no sense of unity among these people. Everyone is on their own. But they’re usually nice when they come to the mountain, and some are even quite alike the dwarves in their pursuit of tradition and ancestral reverence. They seem very well suited for the chaos outside.

Elves are shorter than humans but still a head or two taller than dwarves. They live for very long, even longer than dwarves, but even though their outside never changes their heart and soul do. They seem to be all about change and sudden notions. They don’t even have settlements, but wander the woods as they like. Elves are more like each other than humans, but only in that they are all individualists to the extreme. Still, they know and love music and it has been said they even know of a dwarven tune or two. But you can’t really trust them. They can’t even grow beards!

Goblins. Ugh. Dwarves know pretty much about goblins. At least everything you need to know (according to the dwarves). They’re about as tall as dwarves but skinnier and even paler. They’re practically hairless and also live underground. Dwarves and goblins are mortal enemies by ancient tradition and have fought many wars. The only thing a goblin wants is to take what others have or destroy it if taking it isn’t possible.

The only thing the dwarves know about dragons is that they’re big and very bad for business. They’re attracted to large treasures (which the dwarves usually keep in their halls) and they’re also extremely difficult to kill. Legend speaks of a monster large enough to fill a hall by itself, capable of flight as well as breathing fire. They have scales as tough as iron and acid for blood. Taking on a dragon is quite the undertaking.

To apply to the game, you’ll need to read the above information and then fill out a Character Sheet. Once that CS has been accepted you’re in! Now, apart from the above information there are a few more things you need to know:


  • You were born in the halls of Thrillem and have lived there with your family and friends your entire life
  • You have never been outside of the halls
  • You are the oldest among your siblings and have therefor been chosen for this quest
  • You may or may not have had any military training

Name: Urrimar Azabejebi

Age: 121

Gender: Male

Appearance: Standing at 89 centimeters, Urist is sturdy and stocky. A lifetime of working in the mines have built up his muscles and given him a taste for beer.

Like the rest of his kind, Urrimar is proud of his beard and only cuts it when it starts interfering with his mobility. His eyebrows are equally thick and do a good job in protecting his beady eyes. For some reason however the top of his head is almost bald, not that it bothers him.

Despite not being a part of the guard, Urrimar has fought his small share of battles in the mining tunnels against goblin ambushes. One of these skirmishes gave him a scar starting in the space between his eyes and running down along the left side of his large nose.

Skills and Flaws: Urrimar, like his parents, is a miner. And a such swinging a pickaxe is what he does best. His work has also given him a enviable knowledge of types and properties of the most varied kinds of rocks and minerals.

Unrelated to his work, Urrimar learned how to play the mandolin from his uncle Torvar. And how to brew a passable mushroom beer, though it has been some time since he has tried his hand at brewing anything.

As with any other Dwarf, Urist has to struggle to contain his greed. Another motive of shame for Urist is his weakness to beer and alcohol beverages in general. Several times already this addiction has affected his work and brought shame to him and his family. In recent years he has managed to regain some control over this vice but the threat of falling back into old habits is ever present.

Background: Urrimar is the son of Tormar and Urrigi, two miners who themselves were the children of miners and so forth. And because of that it was already decided long ago that Urrimar and his two siblings would grow up to be miners. Urrimar himself saw no problem with that and soon learned to enjoy the feeling of striking the rock with his pickaxe. His sister, Torrigi, on the other hand had different ideas and decides to try her luck by joining the guard. A fact that brought no small amount of drama to the Azabejebi household. And in the end Torrigi left her family to pursue a career in the guard, though she still maintains contact with her brothers.

Urrimar's brother, Marrur, quietly accepted his lot in life though not as enthusiastic as his older brother. And unlike his siblings Marrur has also managed to find a mate and produce five children.

Urrimar's own relation with his family is also strained due to his years as an drunkard.

Im probabbly going to be hated for asking this, but is there a possibility that i can play as a human? Maybe an orphan raised by Dwarven culture? I have a great idea for a character only he is human.

2nd question, is there magic and can the dwarves do magic?

Name: Jethro Roranson

Age:109

Gender: Male

Appearnce: Jet black hair covers his tall, even by dwarven standards, lanky frame. He keeps his hair and beard braided nice and thick and filled with iron clasps passed down from his mother. His face is pinched and has sharp features which makes it hard for him to see when he smiles or laughs. His feet are his most noticable feature. To make up for his height he was blessed with larger than normal feet. A curse it would seem in his family for the males, but even more so for him. Speaking of his feet he is missing the sixth and seventh toe on his right foot from an accident when he was young.

Skills and Flaws: Much like his parents he is skilled with hammer and tongs. He favors making blades. Knives to be precise. For all manner of purpose. From elagant cooking utensils to the deadliest daggers you've ever set eyes on. For Jethro he prefers throwing them and he is quite skilled at it too. He can sheer a mountain goats goatee from a hundred paces. However, when not over the hot hearth or having target practice he dabbles with his panflute. He is self taught and fairly good. He is also an alright cook.

As is per usual with dwarvenkin Jethro suffers from the sin of greed. His mother is a jeweler by trade and has a penchant for fine stones. Unfortunately for Jethro so does he. The only difference between him and his mother is he has sticky finger and has on more than one occasion lifted a ring, or pendent, or bauble from their shop and not purchased them. Of course this is not worth mentioning if he hasnt been caught at least once. The shame of such only worsens when he gets caught in the lies he tries to tell to get out of trouble. One would think someone his age would be wiser, but it would seem not so for Jethro.

Background: Born to Hrothmir and Frigadene, father and mother respectively, one of the most well known blacksmiths and jewelers in the mountain. The eldest of eight, mother had a tendency for twins, he was actually one of the few who actually stuck with the family business. Most of his brothers and sisters married out of trade. Couple of them are miners, one of them a guardsmen, and most of the others went to various agricultural trades. Only Jethro and his youngest sister Amira took up hammer and tongs. Then there is Jethro's family. His wife, Ilsa, and his young son Daggim. Daggim is still to young for a tradeskill and Ilsa is a Midwife and seamtress. Jethro has hopes that Daggim will take up smithing so not to disrupt the family line.

You won't be hated, mate. But the answer is no. This is a game where we play as dwarves. It's pretty obvious from the title and on. And I haven't written anything about dwarves and magic, but I figure that maybe I should. No, they don't practice magic.

Name: Grimmock Shimmerland (Dwarves that know him call him "Tiny")
Age: 194
Gender: Male

Appearance: Despite the picture Grimmock's hair is not actually white, it's more of a dark brown. He's around 95 centimeters tall(which is somewhat tall for a dwarf), hence the nickname Tiny. His beard reaches down to his waist, and is often unkempt as he doesn't bother with braiding it. He's got a scar on his shoulder, that can only be seen when his armor is removed. The scar itself is a relic from the past.

Skills and Flaws:
Skills: Given his background in the Guard, Grimmock is rather talented with his war hammer. He's seen his fair share of combat, and is quite confident in his abilities. Thanks to his parents, and their background in bartering, Grimmock can tell pretty easily getting the bad end of the bargain; getting cheated in other words. He's pretty decent with a flute, although he has vowed to only play it after a great victory.

Flaws: Grimmock is a hot headed dwarf. He has a very temperamental mindset, and is thrown over the edge easily. Couple that with his greediness, and you've got quite a bad combination. It often ends with him doing irrational and impulsive things. He's also very fearful of ghost, which has resulted in many pranks being pulled on him.


Background: Grimmock was born in a humble household. His parents, Grinnock and Sherna, were merchants that sold imported goods. He grew up in a comfortable household. Never hungry, never cold, had a good bed. He never had any brothers or sisters, his parents were quite adamant about only having one child. Initially his parents had wanted him to grow up and join them as a peddler of goods, but as he got older he knew it wasn't what he wanted. Grimmock valued honor, and enjoyed brawling with the other dwarves. So it was only natural that he found his calling in the Guard.

Miscellaneous: Since we're on the subject of dwarves. Has anyone read the War of the Dwarves? Great book series, I recommend checking it out if you get the chance.
