I don't know a whole lot about the region nor its history, but I've been looking into it here lately. Specifically the Middle Ages. The RP would not necessarily take place in the real Baltic, but in a region inspired by the Baltic.

From what I gather, it's got an ancient feel to it, with a lot of wonder and mystery. Dark forests, stormy weather, and chilly air. Cool rivers, rocky falls, and bleak shorelines. The 'old pagan gods' are still worshiped here. All around and powerful forces.

There's an order of knights here, similar to the Teutonic Knights. These knights were crusading nobles whose organization grew far from what it was meant to be. Originally recognized by a papal figure, these knights crushed infidels in a far off land before being relocated to the main continent. Here they have been tasked with exterminating pagans, but are slowly building their own kingdom.

Its members supposedly swear to uphold the law and fight in the name of the Most Holy. But underneath, these 'knights' are sadistic murderers hellbent on slaughtering whoever the papal figure points his finger at, all for a bit of coin in their pocket. Like-minded nations, who share the same religion, donate to these knights endlessly in hopes they will destroy the pagans in the east, allowing them to grow their own empires without even lifting a finger.
