Hello all, ‘tis I, XSilentWingsX, and I come in search of someone to roleplay an awesome Mass Effect adventure with me. A bit about myself first. I am relatively new to roleplaying relative to many on this site, but I love writing and want to create a great story with an great partner. I write at the advanced level, and I love partners who love detail and high literacy. I’m looking for a partner that will actively contribute to the plot and chat with me in the OOC (let’s be friendly!). I am over 18, and would prefer that my partner also be at least 18. I’m not a fan of heavy smut and the obvious things such as godmodding, so that’s definitely something to keep in mind. I usually post within 1 - 2 days, but if I know I’ll be gone for a while, I’ll let you know and would ask that you do the same. Likewise, if you suddenly want to stop our roleplay for whatever reason, please let me know and not just disappear off the face of the planet, thank you. If you look over here at my (currently closed) 1x1 interest check, I go into much more detail (I may have ranted a bit, whoops) about myself as well as my likes and dislikes when it comes to roleplaying: http://www.roleplayerguild.com/topics/82789-xsilentwingsxs-spectacular-new-1x1-interest-check-currently-closed/ooc
The Roleplay
Mass Effect! Who doesn’t adore Mass Effect? These games happen to be my all time favorites, so I’m looking for someone who also appreciates them, though exact knowledge on every little detail of the universe is not required (I certainly do not have such knowledge anyways). This RP will be taking place in the ME universe, but will not be including main canon characters or be taking place during the plots of any of the specific games (no reapers here). We can simply disregard the events of the games, or work out that our setting happens before or after the games take place. We will be creating awesome original characters and traveling wherever we want, whether these places already exist in game (anyone care for some action on Omega?), or whether we create them ourselves. Our adventures will include comedy, drama, all that other jazz, and most likely lots and lots of violence. And guns. Many guns. (If you have certain limits regarding violence, swearing, and other mature content, definitely let me know right away)
The reason I’m creating this little interest check is that I already had something planned out with a great partner who unfortunately had to withdraw before we could begin. We can work out our own overarching plot that can be anything we desire, and I’d planned for this RP to have different subplots in the style of the many missions one might find in game. Our characters may (and probably should) have their own personal goals that either relate to or are completely different from said overarching plot, but I’m definitely looking for someone interested in creating a dynamic character who will really bring something to the story. I already have a character created (whose CS I will post below): a female human named Evelyn Creed. Your character however can be any of the main races and any gender. Despite the hilarity I’m sure would ensue, no you can’t make your character an elcor assassin (though for all I know that might be something for our characters to encounter in their travels, hehe). This roleplay has the potential to involve romance (or not! just let me know what you’d prefer) between our characters, but if we do have romance, it’s going to build slowly and naturally. Romance is a nice add-on to stories and always appreciated, but at least in this case it will not be the main focus of the story, just one part of the greatness. The character I will be playing is female, and I am equally into both MxF and FxF relationships, so that’s something to consider.
So as I mentioned earlier, an overarching plot is something the two of us will work out, but I do have a beginning to our story (the bit that had been worked out with my previous partner), so let me explain that. My character, Evelyn, is a mercenary who has been… let go… from her mercenary company after sabotaging a job that had her company set to kill a group of innocent biotic teens. After this so-called betrayal on her part, she has been stranded on a desert planet, left to die. This is where you come in. Your character, for whatever reason (that’s up to you), happens to be on this planet and finds my character there in less than spectacular condition. Our characters initially get into a bit of a skirmish, but Evelyn’s not doing too great, and passes out due to dehydration, leaving your character to rescue Evelyn and through a series of events, the two basically become partners. What happens after this, you ask? Well, that is up to the two of us to figure out! The intro post is already written, so I will be posting it below for all of you to see.
Your Interest
So, say you’ve read all this and you’re still interested, and hopefully very interested! Shoot me a message (or post here, I don’t really have a preference) and tell me about your ideas for a character, maybe some plot ideas, or really anything else you wanna throw in there as well (you could introduce yourself too, which is always nice). Now, I am looking for just one dedicated partner on this, so this is not going to be a first-come-first-served kind of deal. Even if I get multiple people who reply to this, I’m unfortunately going to go with just one person for this roleplay. Therefore, I am requesting a writing sample from anyone who’s interested (this can just be a post from another of your RPs, etc). Your writing style may not be compatible with what I had in mind for this, or perhaps I might not think we’d do well together for this particular roleplay, so I ask that people try not to get offended if I can’t accept someone. It doesn’t mean I have something against you, or even that I don’t want to roleplay with you on another story or at another time, so let’s all be polite about this please.
My Character and the First Post
Here’s the character sheet for my character, Evelyn Creed. (If something here really doesn’t work with what you had in mind, let me know, I’m open to making some changes)
Name: Evelyn Creed, occasionally called Evvy or simply Creed
Gender: female
Age: 24
Species: human
Appearance: Evelyn stands at 5’6”, and has a lithe, somewhat compact build. She is thin yet strong, with lean muscles. Evelyn has a fair, pale complexion and waving brown hair that just brushes the tops of her shoulders. Her eyes are a green hazel, framed by thick eyelashes and set beneath angular brows, one of which is marked by a small piercing. She has high cheekbones, a small nose and full, pink lips. Her face is marked by two noticeable scars, one on the left side of her upper lip, and a longer one on her right cheek. Evelyn has other scars as well, including several small scars on her hands and one along the bicep of her left arm. Her arms are tattooed with multiple sharp bands of alien script.
Evelyn wears standard medium armor. Her personal armor is dark, with lines of glowing burnt orange, and the symbol of her mercenary group painted along the sides and back in that same color. When she is not wearing her armor, she prefers simple, practical clothing, and is almost never seen in a dress.
Equipment/Abilities: Evelyn has training in both tech and weaponry, and is thus often equipped with her omni-tool and several guns. Evelyn is a bit of a gun enthusiast, and while she is capable of using almost any type of gun, she most regularly carries with her two pistols on her sides and a submachine gun on her back.
While Evelyn is actually quite skilled in tech abilities such as hacking and decryption, she tends to rely more on her weaponry when in battle. She has excellent aim and has had at least some experience with all gun types, though she prefers close-range, quick firing weapons above those like sniper rifles and shotguns. Evelyn also has training in hand to hand combat, and likes to fight with a style that emphasize power over finesse.
Personality: Evelyn is a headstrong young woman with willful tendencies. She can be quite straightforward and even a little blunt; she is not an exceedingly patient person. Evelyn is very intelligent. She is extremely quick-witted and prone to dry sarcasm and dark humor. Though she is always quick to smile or crack a joke, she tends to be somewhat distrustful of others, and is usually suspicious of strangers. Her loyalty is not easy to earn, but once earned it is unwavering. Some might say that Evelyn has a bit of an aggressive personality. She is quick to rush into things and improvise without thinking too long on any possible consequences, a trait that has gotten her in trouble countless times in the past. She is easily frustrated, has a bad temper, and she has been known to hold grudges.
Background/Origin: Evelyn was born in one of the human colonies on Anhur, a heavily populated planet well known for past conflicts between humans and batarians. She was an only child who grew up comfortably with a scientist mother and a father who was a soldier in the Systems Alliance. Evelyn was a bit of a troublemaker as a child, constantly running off on her own little adventures and sticking her nose where it most certainly did not belong. She was always very close with her father, who taught her all he knew about the military, hoping she would grow up to be an Alliance soldier as he was. Evelyn had a talent for what her father taught her. She was a natural when it came to things like tactics, weaponry, martial arts, or agility.
Evelyn however, was not interested in the strict life of a soldier or the bureaucracy of the Systems Alliance. As she grew older, it became more apparent that Evelyn had no intention of joining the Alliance, and despite her father’s hope that this opinion might change, it did not. Conflict in the family grew from this refusal to follow in her father’s footsteps, and tension between Evelyn and her parents soon became too much, leading her to leave Anhur at age 18, accepting an opportunity as a guard in the private sector. She continued this job for two years before her employer was suddenly shut down for multiple illegal activities, the least of which involved fraud. She found herself stuck on a large, densely populated planet called Valmyra, filled with great cities where people from every race and background could be found. She found work with a small but well known mercenary group, or “private security organisation,” known as the Wraiths, who hired themselves out to many notable organisations and individuals on the planet for anything from protection to raiding.
Evelyn worked with the Wraiths for four years, and was quite content with the arrangement. Mercenary work suited her, and it paid well to boot. Though she spent much of her time on Valmyra, she became very well traveled as jobs brought her to planets all over. Her time with the Wraiths came to a sudden end when a job from an unknown yet very wealthy and powerful employer brought her and the Wraiths to a small space station in order to take out some kind of undisclosed threat. When they arrived, the threat in question turned out to be a group of biotic teens, and while Evelyn had done many morally questionable acts throughout her time as a mercenary and life in general, she was not about to slaughter a group of children. She sabotaged the mission, ensuring that the biotics were safely away from her company, and was immediately confronted by the other members of her group. Despite her efforts to reason and eventually fight her way out of the situation, she was quickly subdued, and left to die on a deserted planet by the Wraiths.
And here is the first post of our possible RP, from Evelyn’s perspective of course.
Evelyn Creed stumbled through the hellish wasteland of the desert planet, clutching at her side. The young mercenary had certainly seen better days. She was fairly certain at least one of her ribs had cracked, and her ankle was almost, though thankfully not quite, sprained. She clenched her jaw and ignored the pain as she limped along the harsh landscape, squinting against the harsh daylight. Her left arm hung uselessly at her side, blood flowing slowly down from where the wound had reopened, dripping from the tips of her fingers onto the hot sand below.
She was making her way slowly towards a hut in the distance, the first hint of shelter she had seen in the three days she had been stranded on this god forsaken planet. The heat from the large red sun in the sky above her seemed only to increase in intensity as she made her way forward, soaking into the black material of her damaged armor. Sweat dripped down her face, sticking strands of waving brown hair to her skin where they had escaped from her ponytail. Hazel eyes dazedly took in the small building, if it could still be called that, in front of her. It appeared to be the only thing left standing, possibly on the entire planet. It was an ancient looking adobe house, almost the same color as the sand around her, with one wall crumbling away into nothing. There was no one and nothing on this planet, and Evelyn would guess that whatever built that house had left or died off too long ago to be remembered.
It seemed like an eternity before she finally stumbled through the entryway. It was one single room, no bigger than a shed and completely barren, just like the desert surrounding it. Evelyn leaned heavily against one of the three walls still standing, prying her helmet off with her good arm and letting it drop to the floor. Legs starting to feel unsteady, she slid down the wall, setting off a small cloud of dust as she practically collapsed to the ground. Her head fell back as she closed her eyes, just for a moment’s rest.
She could feel herself fading. There hadn’t been any food to begin with, and the small amount of water she had had on her ran out over a day ago, even with her sparing use. She’d last two, maybe three more days at this point, she figured. Even with shelter from the scorching red sun, a bit of shade wouldn’t keep away the dehydration she felt pounding in her head and leaving her mouth like sandpaper.
With her eyes closed, memories of the days leading up to this one flashed vividly through her mind. If I hadn’t been on that damn job, she thought, but no, she couldn’t pretend she regretted her actions. Evelyn may have been a mercenary, nothing more than a hired gun, but slaughtering children, no matter if they had biotic abilities or not, had never been a part of her job description. She could still see the raw terror on the kids’ faces when her company had burst into their hideout. Most of them couldn’t have been more than fifteen, and many of them had seemed younger still.
She had hoped that after the mission had gone south, thanks to her actions, she would have been able to simply sneak off, find a new planet where no one would know her name or recognize her face, and start over. She’d done it before. With a small, bitter laugh she realized that in a way she had accomplished just that. There was certainly no one to recognize her here, or anyone who even was here at all.
She opened her eyes, looking down at the armor she wore, now damaged and covered in dust. She could see the burnt orange markings of the Wraiths’ symbol on the side of her suit, still clearly visible through all of the dirt. She gritted her teeth at the sight, the bold design that had once brought her feelings of arrogant pride now leaving her with disgust. She could clearly recall the rage on Zoran’s face as he slammed her against a wall, once he knew what she had done. Zoran, she thought, furious hatred twisting her features at the thought of her now former boss. The bastard had beaten her and left her here with a smile on his face. If she ever got off this horrid world, she would find the son of a bitch and… but thoughts like that were useless. There would be no getting away now. She would probably die right here in this hut, body wasting away until all that was left her bones, dry and forgotten as the wasteland she had been left in.
