Emma sighed as she carried the last of her boxes into her dorm room. The 18 year old had just arrived at her new college dorm and was trying to get settled in without talking to anyone first. In fact not talking to anyone was kind of her game plan of the year.
Emma isn't your average student, Emma was a mutant, to be exact a cat mutant. There is many different kinds of mutant but the cat ones may have the hardest time, mostly because it's hard for them to hide their true form. Other mutants could change at will but cat people could only change their hair colour and even that was rare. Because they find it so hard to hide they were the most discriminated against. Cat people were hunted almost to the point of extinction, some were kept as pets and forced to wear humiliating collars and the rest are force to hide who they are. Emma has to hide her real mutant identity by painfully pinning back her ears, strapping her tail to her back and wearing contact lenses. Even after hiding her physical signs of being a mutant there was still some parts of her character she had to keep under wraps such as the way she hisses when she is mad or scared, how she purrs when she is really happy and how she loves to curl up in a ball in a warm comfy place.
Emma was always very careful to hide who she was. Her parents were killed by mutant hunters when she was very young. She managed to escape to a local orphanage where a kind but firm social worker took her in and showed her how to hide what she was. She even schooled her at the orphaned so she didn't have to spend all her days at school hiding. However now she was 18 and too old to live there and had to find a place to stay. Having no money and still wanting to learn she ended up going to college. However college meant only ever being able to show who she really was in her tiny dorm room and what scared her even more interacting with people her own age. She had spent very little time around people her age and was nervous she would make a fool of herself.
As she carried the last box to her room she was dressed in black skinny jeans, a grey guys t shirt, a burgundy guy's hoodie, a pair of guys cookie monster boxers and a pair of old school vans. She always dressed kinda butchly. She acted butch as well. It was all in an attempt to hide how scared she was of the world around her. She always joked and laughed about her feelings never opening up to anyone, well at least not since her parents died. Her skin was pale, eyes blue with bags under them as she never sleeps well. Her hair was bown and in a short pxie cut though it was still long enough to hide her ears that were pinned to her scalp.
