If you have a Kindle or E-Reader (or a free e-reader app), give it a download and I'll love you forever.

Seriously can you go wrong with reviews like "Weirdest book I've ever read?"

taaj, you need to write more. you can't just write 4500 words (17 amazon pages = 4500-5000 words) and expect popularity ..

well, i don't know what you're aiming for, but 4500 words won't get you much of anything

short story collections generally do poorly

you have to write a novel 60000- 80000 words and there's all sorts of factors that are important to how well that novel sells
cover art, blurb description, first five pages, the story itself, the title!

i can give you a ton of ebooks and reading material if you want to succeed in self pub or a fiction=writing career

writing 5000 words (and it's not even one story, it's multiple stories) and then marketing it to death is not going to get you anywhere

And don't forget that if you don't spend multiple years to get a major publishing office to take the novel you spent multiple years on, then you'll never ever make any money from anyone ever. Or get it into a store. Or actually have someone read it.

The most important factor in how well a novel sells is absolute pure chance. And your name. Which nobody has ever heard before, which is not a good thing.

(But yeah, you really can't put up 4500 words. As good as those words may be, if you don't have a novel-sized book, people will just kind of scoff. I'd suggest submitting your work to a magazine, because that'll let you take approximately less than five years to do)

Honestly, I think the quote you have in your signature is weirder by far.

Perhaps what Taaj should do is have all of us pitch in and write some short stories for the book. Call it an anthology. Perhaps when people see all those names, they'll think it is some major shit.

One of the coolest things about self-publishing is that you can publish whatever the fuck you want to. It doesn't have to be a calculated career move, vetted by a publishing firm. Taaj wrote these, and wanted to share her work, so she's put it up for free and has told us about it because we've known her for ages. Somehow, I doubt being a financial success is at the top of her priority list with this one, so maybe tone down the criticism a bit, hm? Try reading the stories she's giving you for free, and maybe share your thoughts about those, rather than having a go at someone who's writing and self-publishing for pleasure, not gain, and is just sharing that with us.

@Taaj I really liked them. They were melancholy, kind of nostalgic, and yes-- odd, but I like odd. The kind of thing you like to read on a calm evening. You should write more.

This, you dumbslobs.

<3 thanks to those of you who read it.

I wrote and published that little collection for my own personal satisfaction. I don't intend to garner fame or fortune from it.

@Lunamaria "Marketing it to death?"

Brb dying laughing

I've told close friends about it and I've posted a link to it here, only twice in the last six months. From my free promotion (I get to list it as free for 5 days every ninety days, if I choose), I've got 400+ downloads (and counting). That's with next to nil in terms of marketing.

Also I work for a publishing company, I know how few short story collections get around. I don't give a fuck. I write for myself, first.

I'd be down for organizing this if people were interested.

Ok
I was trying to help
I automatically assumed you were after financial success. I just think that whenever I think about self publishing

Ill remember that next time. Thank you

edit: I actually did it (giving help) because it made me feel good about myself (i knew a lot about the subject). so it was a very selfish impulse that motivated me to do it
