There is more to this world then you know. There is so much that goes unseen. So many creatures. So many battles. So much death. From the moment we turn 15, they can sense us. They come for us. So many of us never have a first kiss, never marry, never have children. The very idea of having grandchildren is impossible.
There is only one place that is even slightly safe for us. That place is known as Staðr Húsgørð. Safe House. There, we are trained. Taught. Prepared. In the hope that some of us might live, for our parents, although distant, love us dearly. They know that we are born only to die. We are mortal. Nonetheless, they want us to live as long as possible.
My father searches often for a way that we might become worthy. He wants his children with him, for all eternity. The humans think so badly of my father, but I know him better than they. He is a loving father, a proud brother, and a worthy son for his mother. True, they had their fights, but in the end, there are deeper bonds then mere blood.
If you're reading this letter, you're one of us. You're in danger. One of us will come for you, to bring you to Staðr Húsgørð. We're waiting for you. Stay alive.

The Norse gods never faded. They lived to the current day, for as long as Jörmungandr remains, they must as well. And Jörmungandr will not die until the end of days.
They have had children with mortals, which were known as hálfraesir. They thought, at first, that their immortal blood would cancel out the mortality of their human parents. They were wrong. Their hálfraesir children would need Iðunn's apple to gain full immortality, and Iðunn would only give her apples to the worthy.
So Loki searches for another way. He swears that he will not lose another child to Hela's lands, where he cannot visit so often, or to Odin's grasp in Valhalla. No matter what, he will see his children live for all time by his side.

We can change the myths around somewhat, if we want to. Like what I've done with Loki; I've made him a bit of a better person. His relationship with Odin is strained at best, but his relationship with Thor and Frigga has been mended.
