After crating mankind and placing them on the Great Continent, the god of Life and Creation realized that if the elements which he created the world and its life of were to fall out of balance his creation would be ruined. To maintain balance he created seven immortal beings, lower gods with power over their element. While these beings could appear to be killed, they would simply become one with their element and be reborn from it in a place where that element is strong, or in their shrine, where the monks are sworn to secrecy as to our identities.

The seven elements, fire (heat), ice (cold), water, earth, lightning, light, and dark have dominion over any source of that element, including human powers which use them, though powerful uses of their abilities will drain them so that they must regenerate.

As the Immortals, we maintain the balance, and as such we cannot reveal ourselves to the mortals. Recently, however, the god of Death and Destruction has been speaking to us in our dreams. He offers to increase our power by increasing our element in nature. We don't know which of us have decided to follow him, but when they reveal themselves we must defeat them.

This seems really cool, but with all due respect I would like to suggest a different arrangement for elements. Still seven in total and for the most part the same, but I think we could cover more ground and not step on as many toes.

If I'm coming off as anything negative then please forgive me!

Maybe we could work something else out if you don't like this?

This idea seems kind of interesting, but just like light, i have a bit of an issue with ice being its own element, as it is just an extension of water.

I suggest replacing ice with air. The inclusion of force in my opinion, is unnecessary, as I just don't consider force to be an element.

So, Air which includes lightning instead of lightning, Ice gets rolled into water instead of just being cold, and Force, which is like kinetic energy based powers.

I guess that would work if we made Lightning and Ice advanced forms of those elements, with gravity being an advanced version of Force and TK stuff being the normal level.

Light doesn't include healing and buffs, though, that would be under Life. Dark doesn't include necromancy or curses either, as that would be death.

If the others agree, we can switch to that system.

@VarionusNW Ice represented cold, and was the opposite of fire, which is heat. It wasn't supposed to be just ice, but more accurately cryo powers. I was thinking about the way ice villains generally have power over cold, not just the ability to freeze water.

@TheUnknowable
The healing and necro thing was just mouth-barfing really. But I'd advocate for everything else I said with some devotion.

@VarionusNW
I consider Force to be an element. It really is just as vital as everything else on that list. Think about it, with no forces acting upon matter and energy nothing would ever happen. Stars and planets would never form, things would never move. You'd never exist.

There's actually a theory on the end of the Universe called "Heat Death." Since energies spread as evenly as possible within a system, the entire Universe can be considered a system that contains all of the energy in it. At some point, all that energy will spread out and equalize. The entire Universe will be the same temperature and there will be no imbalances or gradients of energy concentration for reactions to occur. Or so the theory states.

what if we go with this:

Elements (their advanced form)

Fire (Heat, aka, Infrared)
Earth (Crystals)
Water (ice)
Air (lightning)
light (Lasers)
Dark (Anti-laser?, like on made of anti-photons or negative energy? something which lowers the energy states of electrons when it impacts a material)
Tk/Force (gravity control)

I'm not really sure what the link could be, unless you consider how water that is left in a flooded mine will slowly turn to sulfuric acid because it leaches sulfur from the rocks.

@TheUnknowable I suppose, I've questioned that myself when playing games like D&D but it kinda makes it all fit because the other elements have energy types in that game (fire for Fire, cold for Water, electricity for Air and acid for Earth), like a lot of earth related things have acid resistance or attacks but whatever.

My point is that crystals shouldn't be an advanced form of Earth because its so simple like stone and stuff. Maybe metal could be the advanced form? Maybe I play D&D too much?

If we're claiming elements then I'll list mine in priority, so if someone else gets my preferred then you'll know what to give me next.

Preferable
Air
Light

Neutral
Force
Fire
Dark

Averse
Water
Earth

I was considering metal, already, so I'll change it.
