I've literally spent 5 hours, just going on runs over and over again to actually get something good in the first item room. The D6 for Isaac didn't help at all and I literally refuse to try any other character because I just unlocked the D6 for Isaac through a grueling and painful run with blue baby. I want to exhaust it and revel in its power but its just not giving it to me

*silent crying in a corner*

Well, enough with that... What about you guys? What are some of your painful experiences with the game?

Absolutely love BoI and on most runs I can usually get through to the Chest or the dark room with ease. Still haven't done hard mode but that's due to the unlocks that I still wanna get for Samson and Cain.

My best run was a first room brimstone with heaps of tears up and I became guppy. The power was absolutely insane! Worse I can remember was taking 9 lives then accidentally going into a cursed room. Imagine being forced to kill yourself 9 times because that's your only option. Gaaah lol.

@Corvotius
STATS:
Deaths, 136
Items, 325
Mom kills, 44
Secrets, 127
Best streak, 2

So yeah... a lot of deaths. Many were from some of the challenges. Which I still need to complete half of them. The main tip I can offer is practice, and start off with Maggie, Lazarus or Azazel. Isaac actually starts at a disadvantage because of the D6. Reason being is that items have tiers and some of the good items like ipecac and brimstone are top tier along with the D6. I believe from memory if a top tier item turns up there's a lesser chance that another top tier will appear so with Isaac you've actually gotta work harder for your run.

Maggie has the yum heart, so that's a good health pickup. Lazarus has an extra life and has similar stats to Isaac. He also bleeds toxic blood if you use that life and are hit after that point, so for chasing enemies it can help. Azazel is different. No red hearts but can earn them, plus a short range brimstone and flight. First chest run I had was with Azazel as the brimstone worked wonders with dmg pickups.

BoI is one of those games that start off hard. For ages I struggled against Dingle and the Haunt, but after you memorize their patterns and work out how they prep their attacks they become a lot easier.

Hit me up if you want to know any particular details. I've played and watched hundreds of hours of play so I know many of the technical stuff and synergies.

Oh my god you've had 136 deaths? I'm on my -200 winstreak of deaths lmaaaao but that's probably only because I like to scream and run into enemies when I don't get anything from the first item room, or the rerolls.

I really don't like any of the other characters, but I know I'll be forced to use them for chieves and items, I really don't like Azazel because he's waaaaaay too easy, I feel. Which makes him fun but gets pretty old quick. I don't know I feel

I wanna know mega satan's patterns if you can tell me because I've been able to challenge him one too many times but I felt I didn't have good enough damage or hearts

Sadly never defeated Mega Satan. Never really had a strong enough run or gotten the key on a good run.

Two weeks ago, I had "The Binding of Isaac" marathon. Invited some friends over, connected the PC to the big screen, ordered pizza, and played for 14 hours. There was so much screaming and controller throwing. By the end, we were like crazy, football fanatics cheering on whoever was playing at the time. Lol. It was pretty great.

Last nights run, early number one, tears up pills along with a few range ups, mystery sack and bomb bag. Brimstone, 5 of the 6 guppy items thanks to the left hand, abaddon, satanic Bible then switched to Tammy's head. So real powerful run...

... found magic fingers on the dark room and beat the Lamb with 65 cents. No brimstone shots fired.

I've taken to describing what Isaac (or whomever he's pretending to be during a run) aloud after collecting some items after a while.

'So, I originally only had one eye, and the other was covered with an eyepatch. But then I got a blood clot, so my eyepatch is covered in a blood clot. And I stabbed myself with a wire coat hanger, so I cry a lot more. I just drank some rancid milk, but I then made a pact with the devil, so I got a nice cloak which makes me look like a sith from star wars.'

Next, I'm going to start composing haikus.

I found Rebirth significantly easier than the original, mostly because of one factor, Guppy. It's way too easy to get full Guppy if you're careful and maximise your devil room chances.

Also, somewhat lame but also a real game changer is if you haven't completed any challenges yet, just complete the challenge for Jera (which is fairly easy) it will be the only rune that drops for you ingame, and it's OP as hell, especially if you duplicate the chest chests.

So, no screenshots of this, and I forgot to take the seed. I was too amazed at what was going on at the time to even think of saving it for later.

Playing as ???, this is my second or third time with him.

First few floors, nothing spectacular, just meat and guppys head, which is a great replacement for poop. Lot of stuff which extends my range.

I then get Ipecac.

This runs playstyle has changed very dramatically.

Because I can explode walls, I find lotsa secret rooms.

One of these rooms has a luck-up pill.

I get bucket of lard, because, why the hell not.

At this point my speed is at one.

I keep going down.

I find so many luck-up pills that my luck stat fills the entire bar. It's a miracle.

I then get a passive that increases my tear damage up close, yet rapidly diminishes it from far away. This causes as many problems as you would expect, though the damage when far away is enough to one-shot most enemy's.

Because of being able to kill most enemy's before they get close to me, I now have a small armada of blue flies. It goes from cardinal directions to pentagram to being a solid wall of flies.

My tear rate is now incredibly high, after the screw, belt, and a torn picture.

When I'm sluggishly moving through some mushrooms, I get mini-mush. My shots are now even harder to predict, awesome, but at least I'm faster.

In the same room, I smash the next mushroom, and I get the magic mushroom.

At this point, almost every single stat is at full bars, and my damage is far beyond it. I am the most deadly corpse of a little boy to ever walk in it's mother's basement.

An incredibly short fight with mother later (8 tears or so) and I'm breezing through the womb. What my reality defying explosion tears don't kill, my army of blue flies do.

I get to It Lives

As my flies swarm it, I run up to it, and launch a single tear.

It dies, and I'm reduced to half a heart.

Going into the Cathedral, I spy an empty wall, perhaps a secret room?

I misjudged the distance of my tears, and I kill myself in the resulting explosion.

I then remember this thread, and rush to write it all down.

Hard mode is the only relevant mode.

@NuttsnBolts

Special items that you start with don't count against you finding any later on. Isaac is OP.

This includes Magdelene's Yum Heart and anything Eden might get.

@MelonHead

Never played the original, but this is accurate.

Anyway, I've been playing the game off and on since it came out on Xbox One. I've also spent far too much time watching streamers on Twitch play it even before I got it.

Right now I'm trying to get Real Platinum God before Oct 30th. Eve and Samson will be pretty easy to round out. Blue Baby is going to be annoying to get all the unlocks for.

Two challenges left.

And then of course, The Lost. I tried that a little earlier today. Getting 200 deaths in a row searching for a first floor Holy Mantle or Dead Cat can be grating.

I've had one actual run with each of the two and didn't get to Isaac or Satan.

maybe I'm getting mixed up with the original. The original had some funny effects and items. I remember dad's key never really worked how it was supposed to and when the item pool was exhausted all shit broke loose.

Mega Satan worthy Run: Y0MP K92A

First time feeling super confident for mega Satan. Started off with Eden (2hp, Book of Belial and Big Fan) and picked up a Daddy Long Legs on the First Floor with Ipecac on the second floor with a Lucky Rock. From there I decided to go for the Angel Rooms where I got holy Mantle and Dead Dove, to which on a later level I got Quad Shot and Lucky Foot. Ended the run with 3 Guppy items (Head, Paw and Tail; collar in the Dark Room) and Lord of the Flies (Distant Admiration and Skatole).

Definitely had fun with this run. :D
