I've noticed occasionally in a few topics that people would occasionally wish to see a more of a particular trait, theme, item, etc. in a roleplay, and sometimes less. So I'm pretty much asking what you would sometimes like to see more or less of. Call it a bit of a survey to see what's trending or what seems to be overused.

(This is in reference to character designs, roleplay genres, world designs, personalities, bio history, etc. Not asking about traits of a GM or a player)

Eg:
More:
- Fantasy that deals with elements like Necromancy and the undead (not zombies). There's several zombie RPs around but I haven't noticed many that deal with raising the dead instead of people dying and turning into zombies.
Less:
- Katanas - There's more Japanese swords out there than just the generic 'Katana'. For instance the Uchigatana, Wakizashi or even the Naginata. It also doesn't always make sense as to why a Non Japanese character would be wielding one.

More:

  • Tall characters (I like to offset short characters against them because I like being able to play with the physical dynamic)
  • Detailed setting descriptions (I don't mind adding stuff, but since every town is different, even for common settings, a description would be useful so that I don't contradict the GM's vision)

Less:

  • Anything in the IC that does not belong to the IC. I feel like the IC should read as one continuous narrative, so having OoC notes of any kind or anything like that is a big turnoff for me. Jury's out on how I feel about external reference links (images to compliment a physical description, thematic music).
  • Apocalypse-genre. I feel like there's a disproportionate amount of apocalypses taking place in the advanced section. Horses for courses, but still kinda bleh.

More:
- Borderlands - I find it odd that no one has wanted to do a 1x1 borderlands, or that I haven't seen borderlands in general much either, especially after tales by telltales, but also the pre-sequel.
- Homosexual characters. I'd just like to see more of them, even if there may be quite a few around. Instead of straight or bi/pan.

Less:
- Zombies - It doesn't matter what the RP is about, or if the focus isn't on action. It's still one of the most overused and boring things there are.

- Horses. Being a very horsey person, I really, really long for some rp in which they have a prominent role, without the plot being all childish, like they used to be on other sites I've been on.
Animals in general really. I have a strong weak spot for plots that have a big spotlight for animals. Not in the furry/neko kind of way, but more in the realistic, slice of life kind of way. Normally I'm not a big slice of life fan, but there are exceptions.
- Cliche plots turned into something cool.
If you're one of those people that can take an overused thing and turn it around into one of those rp's that make me sacrifice a proper amount of sleep, I will love you.
- Tall ships.
- Platonic relationships. I'm a sucker for plots in which the characters don't necessarily end up dating, but just develop this really strong bond over time. But I find it a little tough to find people who feel the same. Not that there are none, it just does not seem all that common.

Less
- Characters that don't fit the rp they're in, I think.
There aren't many things that make me think 'I don't want to see this anymore, at all'

I was so tempted to make a horrible Geert Wilders joke here, but I stopped myself.

Also; I have nothing against people who like nekos and stuff, just adding that since I'm quite new here and have no idea how sensitive people are. (I've seen people on other sites blow up over less)

Second this shit here.

Also more:

Fantasy RPs where the characters aren't all battle hardened warriors and mages.
Apocalyptica level Zombie RPs(I miss that one)
More well thought out Arena CS'
Persistent World RP on Guild

Less:

People not in my RP.
Fandom RPs where people can start out at the highest/close to the highest level there is. Haven't checked in a while, but OldGuild had a ton where you could start off at the tops level.

  • Superhero/Superhuman RPs set in original universes (Don't do fandoms).
  • Realistic/modern RPs.
  • Original RPs.
  • Fleshed out and three dimensional characters (You get bored of the same type).
  • Character diversity in RPs.
  • Actually, just people trying to make an interesting story.

Less...

  • "Anime" faceclaims (I tend to immediately get turned off if I see an anime faceclaim in an RP's character tab).
  • People aiming to make their character the strongest/best fighter (rather than actually interesting).
  • People playing to win in non-arena RPs.
  • People trying to make their character the ultimate special snowflake.
  • People who take RPing to heart.
  • People who have shitty attitudes about Roleplaying.

@Rilla There is a persistent world thing going on in the advanced section. It's not offical, but the person running it is doing a good job. It's called Ebonfort, I need to get around lds to making a character.

Moar:
Unique and clever world building. I know it's hard, but it makes it feel special.

Magic cowboys. I'm craving something along the lines of 'The Good the Bad and the Ugly', but Blondie is an elf and Angel Eyes is actually a lich.

Less:

Bland and unoriginal settings that I know the plot of after looking at the title.

Fandoms. I know people like them, and I can sorta understand the appeal, but honestly, take that stuff to the fandom sites. They drown out the original content.

  • Deconstruction and Mind-Screws
Can be world, genre, tropes/lores, the psychology of the characters...anything. let's break the cliche wall and challenge normality, people!

  • Describing Character Appearance with Words
Using images (be it face claim or animanga art) is convenient, but nothing beats the good ol'-fashioned way to present your character to me. Personally I don't think any face claim or illustration can ever properly portray the characters I have in mind unless I actually draw them out myself...which I won't, because otherwise I wouldn't be on this site but on the art forums instead.

  • Dark Harem
Not the anime-ecchi kind, but something deeper and intriguing like those in ancient Chinese history.

Less:
  • Mainstreams and Stereotypical Lores
Especially high medieval fantasy, zombie apocalypse, supernatural featuring vampires/werewolves or angels/demons, and DC/Marvel-inspired superheroes. I've lost count the number of such genres I came across drifting around on this site...

  • Pairings
Or should I say, jumping the romance bandwagon in general. The worst kind would be "love at first sight" or "dramatic love-triangle soap opera" - no offense to those who are romantics, but I prefer to let our characters develop and get comfortable with each other first before we even talk about taking things further. I'm perfectly happy even if our characters' relationship stay as friends/comrades with a common goal till the end. Sure, romance can help to spice things up, but it's not a necessity.
