Work in progress...

Change is one of the hardest things to deal with. It can sometimes be bad. Sometimes, it can be a good thing. For the Tree family, only time will tell.

As they arrive to their new home in Woodstock, Vermont - they must reflect on the changes that must take place. They must leave their ultra glamorous lifestyle back in Los Angeles, California and adjust to the less glamorous, but still possibly fulfilling, life in Woodstock. Their family owned buisiness is gone. It's time to start a new chapter in their lives.

Due to economic hardship, the family owned business stopped making a profit and had to be sold. Their family friend was able to provide an opening in his own company with great pay - though not what they were making before. They have a downsized house now, but still grande in the eyes of most and everyone still has their own room. It just no longer is a huge Beverly Hills mansion.
Rules

  • Posts must be at least 2 paragraphs in length.
  • Post at least 2 times a week.
  • Do not control someone else's character without their permission.
  • Character actions must have appropriate consequences. For example; when talking back to teachers or bullying another student or doing something illegal.
  • Let me know before your character does something that could affect the entire family, like burning down the house - whether on purpose or by accident.
  • No character is perfect and they must be a complicated and flawed human being.
  • Character actions, for the most part, must follow logic and must be true to their character. If your character burns down the house on purpose or by accident, events must have happened to lead them to do this action. We should be able to look back and say, "oh yeah I see how it led the character to this."
  • Please keep it at a PG-13 rating with no nudity.
  • Keep profanity to a minimum and don't overdo it.

Character Roles

You can be a parent, a sibling, or an extended family member. An extended family member can be an uncle, a cousin, or can even be a very good family friend that is almost like an uncle or a sibling.

The parental, aunt, and uncle roles are limited, but we can have up to 7 siblings.

Sibling - David Tree - @Apollo
Sibling - Stephanie "Steph" Tree - @GoddessSophia

The Character Sheet

Siblings can be from 14-25 and may also be twins or even triplets.

Characters must be approved before posting in the Character thread.

The character sheet serves multiple purposes, it informs me of who your character is and provides me with an idea of how you will play your character. It also provides a frame of reference for yourself and everyone else when interacting with your character. It also serves the very distinct purpose of allowing the other family members to have formed an opinion about your character. Yes, mystery is good and your character will of course develop, change, and grow, but remember that these siblings and parents all have known eachother for a very long time and will have already formed opinions about the other characters. Certain mysteries are possible, like sexual orientation, mental struggles, but for the most part your personality and behavior are things that will not be big mysteries. We need to know what our character will think of your character as this is an RP about a family.

Personality: is self explanatory, it is the general template by which your character operates. It informs their decisions and who they hang out with. It dictates how they approach people and life in general.

Behavior: goes into the minutia of day to day. How the character acts towards people. Does he lash out at his parents often. Does he do a lot of pranks? Does he get into fights a lot? Does he mistreat his siblings? Does he ignore authority? When his parents give a curfew, does he follow it or not. When you think about one of your family members, you think of their personality, but you can also think about the things they have done and how they act in front of people, that is their behavior.

Type: admittedly isn't as self explanatory as personality, which is why I tried to provide some examples. Is your character the adventurous type? Are they the loyal type? It's somewhat like describing characteristics, but it's not so much about traits so much as succinct terms that show how they move through life. Someone who is adventurous might like rock climbing, or solving mysteries. Someone who is loyal will defend their siblings, or their friends. It very importantly also provides the other players with an idea abotu your character and how our characters will interact with them.

Explanation of Type: is somewhat a replacement for history. You say your character is adventurous, now give examples or an explanation of how they are adventurous. My character likes to go rock climbing on the weekends. They love visiting new places. My character is rebellious - but not all rebels are the same. My character rebels against the idea of school. They don't shun authority exactly, but they don't think that school should be required. This helps us understand your character better and provides us with some ideas about whether our characters like to hang with yours and so on.

Likes: What does your character like? Music? Comedy? Travel?
Dislikes: What doesn't your character like?

Aspirations: What your character will be working towards in the long run. A life goal or a desire.

School Performance: This is important for the parents and for family members, again, to form an opinion. In some cases, like if your character is in college, this can say something like, "Chooses not to disclose this information to their family." But in high school, this option is obviously not available. School is an important aspect of being young. And again, it helps our characters be more informed about your character.

Plans: This describes what your character wants to do with their life in general. Their plans for the year, short term. How they plan to get to their goal, or how they will make the most of the move to the new place. Or maybe they plan to improve their grades or relationship with their siblings or parents. It also gives me an idea as to what you want out of this RP.

Remember that this is a family RP. They all know each other. We need to be able to have a very good foundation of who we are are and who our family is.

If anyone wants to play a twin or a triplet to my character, let me know!

Still working on this but I need to get some sleep...

Name:Lila Tree
Age:21
Personality:Lila is a very caring and sweet young woman, a bit of an introvert unless you know her very well and sometimes acts like a giant kid. She's a bit like the mother hen whenever her parents are out and she generally makes sure her siblings have help with homework, especially if it's something she understands well such as English, Science or foreign languages. She is very protective of her younger siblings and if she even senses that they're being bullied or hurt, her temper flares.
Behavior:Polite, fun-loving, caring, gregarious
Type: Protective, hard working, artsy,

@Apollo
I know that this is a Casual level RP but at minimum, how many paragraphs are you expecting from each writer? I didn't see any rules so that is why I am asking. ^_^ Never mind. :) Making the Mother.

@GhostWing Let me know when you complete the application so I can consider it :)

@HushedWhispers Thank you for applying! She seems good, but can you also include the other parts of the character sheet? You can exclude the school part :) And thank you for reminding me about rules! I will mostly be asking for adherence to the rules set forth for the Casual section, so two paragraphs at least will likely be my request, but I will be hoping for medium to high casual.

@GoddessSophia I love it! You are accepted! Thank you so much for joining us!

ok i have been trying to write up a character for this (twice by the way) but the Character sheet is just really fucking confusing. it mostly has to do with what i am showing below first i have to describe the my guys personality that is perfectly fine its the norm but behavior? what the fuck am i suppose to describe here? no seriously what the fuck am i supposed to do here? Because to me personality usually works fine when it comes to describing a character's behavior. then there is type ok i have less problems with this one i sorta just see it as way to do a short synopsis on your character. but then i have to explain the type? why? as i have explained i see type as a synopsis a way to describe every thing in a few words so having to explain the types seem as a waste of time.

and i can see this a reason for why there aren't many application. i know i am coming off as an asshole and honestly that's sorta the point i am acting as asshole so i can point out what you are doing wrong and it mostly has to do with the fucking character sheet

@Billsomething I have to agree, I'm having a hard time finishing my bio because of of these three things. Not to sound rude but they feel redundant and that this also sets strict boundaries on how we're supposed to play our characters when I feel that there should be a little mystery to not only our partners but also to ourselves since we may find a character writes or sounds better in a certain tone and behavior. Like Lila, I want her to be the sweetest little gum drop there is but it may end up she plays more mischievous than originally intended.

First off, no, you did not have to come off so aggressive. I appreciate you letting me know that the character is confusing, but a simple request for an explanation would have sufficed. I hope the following explanation helps.

This will be posted on the Original Post as well.

The character sheet serves multiple purposes, it informs me of who your character is and provides me with an idea of how you will play your character. It also provides a frame of reference for yourself and everyone else when interacting with your character. @HushedWhispers

Ah, now I see the W.I.P.

Well, I guess I understand where you're coming from.

@GoddessSophia

I do too! It will be interesting to see where this can go haha.

@GhostWing

I understand that you want mystery for your character and that is possible. However, these characters have known each other for a very long time. So our characters need to have an opinion about your character, and idea of who they are. It doesn't mean your character can't change or grow. Maybe your character is struggling with something, or feels something different on the inside and just shows a particular face to everyone else. It isn't a strict set of boundaries for your character, so much as a template for how others might see your character and it can be a jumping off point. This big move might be a chance for your character to change or maybe the inner struggles are finally bubbling to the surface.

@Apollo O.k fine maybe i could have just asked for an explanation of it work. but i still stand by what i said and i do honestly feel like all i am essentially doing is describing my guys personality four times my big problems with the character sheet is that i find it to have an strangle hold on the player it doesn't have any form of wiggle room for the writter to get properly creative and its because sheet is so in depth it may sound good on paper but it fails in practice for a character sheet is supposed to act as a quick introduction more then anything

@Billsomething Once you start posting for your character, you'll be able to expand and grow and you'll have plenty of wiggle room. Don't worry about being in a stranglehold. The Character Sheet provides a snapshot of who your character is at this moment, but it can change. Your character sheet does not have to remain static.
