@ImportantNobody The DBZ transformations, sans the giant monkey probably, were about 95% positive. After practicing it(and really, most people aren't coming in with a transformation that's half cocked), they could change into it and maintain it, for a very long amount of time, effectively killing any drawback. But they essentially restored energy, and put them on a higher level of fighting. Goku was getting rocked by Frieza, until he went Super Saiyan, and that was basically the whole deal for every enemy.

Anime is terrible for transformations really.

Stories in general are terrible with the hero always getting a second wind.

Believe in the heart of the cards or friendship or some nonsense.

I do feel we should point out Goku was not that injured in the first place.

In Resurrection F, the entire reason Frieza was beat was because he couldn't maintain his transformation.

That said, Akira Toriyama is a hack and his writing his sub-par. Transformations are purely a plot device and power levels were Toriyama's means of making fights bigger and more exciting. It was cheap, but I loved every screaming moment of it.

I could see where the gimmick gets a bad rap. Transformation can still be pretty fun to use though. For instance, if it's a temporary power-up (for instance Kaioken) or just a change in power set (Like the various forms for Kamen Riders) and not an asspull as you guys seem to like to make it out to be.

Goku, like many protagonists, got his ass handed to him from my memory. Now, it may not have been that bad - but it was bad enough he had to awaken a power that is seen what... once in a 1000 years, unless it's on earth, then every fucking generation. xD

The beauty of the arena, if IN brings his transforming character, no one has to fight it make it a character numbering among the thousands he's made.

I'd do it, just to kill it.

Or kill it, take a body part and make a golem.

People seem to forgot anime is basically fancy cartoons. Much like G.I Joe they'd get hit with a laser rifle and jump right back up again. Or Ichigo could get cut to pieces and loos a bathtub worth of blood but keep on fighting. Animations tend to only use injuries as a dramatic plot device in and of itself.

This gives unwily people the tendency to think the transformations themselves lend to that second wind. When really it would have had the same result with or without the transformation. It just adds flare. Using anime or any similar media as the example of transformations for a competitive arena format seems short sighted to me. Anything from a cartoon basis wont work in the arena. Simply because cartoons (or any made up character in any format) never dies until the writer wants them to.

Arena Transformation would be something completely different, past and copy from any media outlet tends to be a bad idea regardless of the topic.

Except I did, anime was the only one you actually mentioned by name. The rest was implied, but as I said, anime was the only one specifically mentioned.

That sounds more than just implied, but I bow to your greater level of ignorance.

@GreivousKhan You'd have to bow to yours first, as several naruto(golly gee, an anime) has worked in the arena. Albeit, on a fairly powerful scale(Ask Melon), and went to shit, but not for lack of not working, just on a completely different level of strength. But you know, -nothing- from cartoons work.

Cartoon stuff can work quite well, if done right. Transformations, often, aren't done right.

I was speaking about the pseudo plot driven immorality that causes second wind in the first place as powers are obviously free domain, but your ignorance is to powerful.

No u, adults are talking. <3

Second winds can work I.E Adrenaline, so long as they aren't... "omglmfao all muh power returns", it'd work better in a short burst before burning through it. But as we were talking about transformations, I guess changing the subject slightly works. We'll just assume everyone jumped aboard it when we got there.

Are we still talking about my upcoming transforming character? Because if so, why is he an it who's body parts can make a golem? O_o

I could also go with the transformation being mostly permenant, like Spider-Man, and he'd only be tuned to an un-enhanced "Peter Parker" version if something special removes his powers rather than doing a bunch of transformations on a regular basis.

Wait, getting up and magically resorting all your strength because of plot is OK in a competitive arena? :K \

That might work in the MV don't know about Ranked matches...
