Germanic it is then, already looking into the Pre-Roman Iron Age of Northern Germany. I'm thinking she will be like a scout for a newly settled tribe. She is seeking new and unique resources for her people (or is supposed to be), but finds herself enjoying the freedom of being out on her own. She'd mostly pray to Wodan (Odin) to protect her on her travels.

Or, I was thinking of making her a slave who survived a ritual drowning. She was an attendant to the Goddess Nerthus and as is tradition, after 2 slaves wash her and her chariot at the end of her roaming feast, the slaves are then drowned in Nerthus' lake. My character would have escaped through trickery on her part and then left to travel the world.

Hello, I'm new to the site but not to play by post games. This sounds like a fun game to start with if there are still slots open. I'll have to check the occ thread and see what characters have been submitted before I decide who I will play.

@Dragon Witch Sounds good, DW, very good! I honestly couldn't pick one of those choices because I like them both quite a bit. :)

@Flamme Verte You are most welcome, and welcome to the Guild as well, there are still slots open aaaaaand it looks like one of them is now your own.

Cool, thank you!

I'm feeling maybe I'll make a boisterous Celt if that's alright. He may be a little lost and hapless but the wolf head the druid who gave him the spirit mushrooms was wearing definitely told him to go east and if that's where his destiny takes him so be it! A geis or two will add some interesting roleplay opportunities.

Edit: Found my copy of Gurps Celtic Myth. It's rich with lore on as the ancient Greeks knew them according to this the Keltoi. I'll brush up on my info and work on a full character sheet over the next day or two.

Okay, after a lot of review and comparison, I decided to go wit the second idea. *firm nod* Finding herself on a boat with fellow adventurers would be a dream come true.

@Flamme Verte I have a degree in Classical History, so I know my stuff; the Hellenes knew the various tribal groupings of the far north as the Keltoi - while the Romans called them all Gauls - and I'd be very happy to have a wild and boisterous savage on our side. As for myths on them, well, I'd take them all with a pinch of salt.

Any questions, feel free to ask!

@Dragon Witch Eeeexcellent, I'm sure you and the character that Flamme comes up with may get on quite well...but perhaps not. Needless to say, you'll likely both be called Kelts by any Greeks we meet. :)

Oh, and to everyone else, I'll get an OOC thread up and running today.

Hmm I always thought they did a pretty good job researching the information they put in these source books, True it's called Celtic myths but it also delves into life and culture with a lot of really interesting information on taboo and gasa. I'm not going to argue with a expert but doesn't Hellenes just mean someone from Greece? I did additional research and while I suppose that likely orginally refered to a specific tribe in the area and has come to just mean Greek in general which would explain the confusion in the book.

I'll finish building my character and run it by you probably sometime tomorrow.

@Flamme VerteNo, you're correct, Hellenes simply means 'the people of Hellas' AKA Greece; although, at this period in Greek history, such a concept was truly beyond them as each individual was defined by their place of birth, their kingdom or city-state. I use the word because that is what the Greeks called the Kelts in their recorded sources, and where our modern name for them comes from.

Not sure what, if anything, we're disagreeing about here...I'm a wee bit confused.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing the sheet. :)

My bad, was a bit early when I read your post and I must have mistook your meaning. If anything I'm the one who was confused but we're good now.

@Flamme Verte I'm actually looking forward to our characters interacting. Depending on how things go, it would be pretty fun if they wound up becoming BFFs in the long run. If you're okay with that of course and if they have the right chemistry for it.

Sounds like a buddy comedy in the making. He shouldn't be hard to get along with as long as you respect his strange customs. We will have to see how things turn out however, this could just as easily turn into a rivalry. They will have a lot of common ground in unfamiliar lands so I feel it won't be unfriendly and according to what I've been reading men and women were equal in Celt society. Female warriors weren't disapproved of or seen as unusual so there won't be any need for macho chauvinism. Excited to see the finished characters, now back to work with me.
