Megumi's side ached as she heaved the body through the portal, but just before she jumped through it, her eyes caught a glint. What was it? She glanced over to the bright reflection. Her gaze fell upon the nests of eggs, some of the eggs looked quite crystal-like... Or rather, they were crystals. Her eyes shone like the stones themselves, she wanted to have them all to herself, but she didn't want to be too greedy about it either.. also she didn't have any pockets. She quickly skipped over to the egg crystals, touching them experimentally. They were hot, but not hot enough to burn her. She picked up one of them, studying the shiny exterior of the stone. She figured that she should bring one to Svarak too.. Taking a crystal in each hand, she dashed for the portal, tumbling through it. Her feet landing just next to the body of the Screamer, the gems gleaming in her hands.

A sharp pain ran through her body as she landed, causing her to instinctively clutch at her side. With the stone still in her hand, the heat is exuded pressed into her wound, which felt quite nice. She glanced around the arena for Svarak, only to see him walking off. She sighed in exasperation. She was beginning to think that this whole ordeal was a waste of time, but the gems made it seem worthwhile.

Togan hesitated a moment at the woman's request, not just because he wasn't used to his new title, but because he was still in shock at having been promoted at all. The orc shook it off however, nodding at the woman. It only took some mild searching before he found a thick leather satchel, attached to a dead body. He dumped the various contents out, mostly clothing it seemed, and made his way over to the little critter. He slipped on his chain gloves, not wanting to experience the very unique bites firsthand. The little creature was busy ripping the flesh from the dead Screamer, making squealing noises that he could only assume were sounds of glee.

It was quite small, maybe twice the size of his hand, and did have a certain appeal to it, a cute, gory, murderous look about it. Pulling his knife out, he carved a chunk of flesh away, then held it out in front of the creature, waving it lightly. It responded with a bit of a gragh, snapping at it. He lowered it to within its reach, satisfied when it snapped down on the meat, tugging lightly. He lifted it up, noting that just as its parent had done with the bear, it refused to let go. He gently lowered it into the satchel, and let loose the flesh, and closed the flap. It had plenty of room in there he figured, and returned back to the woman.

The medic had finished her ministrations to Rilana's wounds, filling them with salve for healing, preventing infection, and for treating burns. Sewing them up had been easy work for her, having down thousands of these as a medic knight. She used a copious amount of bandages, wrapping around the entirety of Rilana's shoulder, extending from just below her neck, down below her shoulder blades, across her upper ribs and back up, over her breast. "You'll need to take it easy for at least.. two tendays, maybe three. You'll still be healing after that, but it shouldn't be too terribly troublesome by that point. Will definitely leave an interesting set of scars." She handed Rilana a small pack with the same salve and spare bandages, "Try and change them at least once a day. You can reuse the bandages if you boil them. Make sure you can get two fingers beneath them though, don't want them too tight or loose. But you're all set."

The orc handed the satchel over, supporting the bottom of it, unneeded, but he wasn't sure how fragile the babies were. "Let's go find one of the Wardens now, glad to see your injuries aren't too terrible." He led her over through the carnage, seeing that a few squires were getting a cart together to load the dead creature's body up. The knights would want to research it, find out more. The dead had been left where they lay while the injured were still being treated. Moving past the bleachers, they could hear excited chatter, to see the first creature, the larger one, chained up, being loaded onto a wagon by many squires. A live, adult specimen. Snippets of conversation could be heard, mostly them exclaiming how Lord Svarak had subdued the creature with his bare hands, never needing to draw a weapon.

The Warden, Teskin, was overseeing the loading, and saw them approaching, "Ah, if it isn't the bear woman. Lord Svarak had me take care of a few things. First off, here's this." He handed Rilana a wax sealed scroll, embedded with the symbol of a lions paw over the citadel, "That will grant you access to Lord Svarak in the capital. He'd like to speak with you in private when you're available, the sooner the better." Then he looked over at his own personal squire, who readied some other paperwork, "He also asked I grant you naming rights of whatever... this thing is," he said nodding over his shoulder at the large parent creature.

The squire looked at Rilana ready to write down whatever it was she said, "And with that, the empire thanks you, foreigner." He then turned back to supervising, done with her. Togan turned to her, extending a massive green hand, "And I thank you Rilana Aurorime'. Should you need anything within my power, I shall grant it. And you will always have my sword at your back." Some people might confuse this for a threat, but it was one of the most honorable phrases amongst orcs. An orc with a sword at your back is one that would die fighting alongside you without hesitation. A short, curt nod, and he was gone, seeking out others that needed help.

Through the portal, the squire watched as the woman dove back through, wondering he she had the stamina to do that with a similar injury to his own. He stood up, reaching up to climb through, when the portal snapped shut, his eyes growing wide. "NO! NOOO!" His arms swung wildly at the air, feeling nothing foreign. The portal had been inching closed, how had it just shut like that? It made no sense to him. He turned around, looking at the harsh world he was trapped in, with nothing more than the clothes on his back and the kris in his sheathe.

Warden Knight Geoff watched as the woman dove through the portal, just before it closed. Oh well, another squire lost was a small price to pay, one he'd pay every time when knowledge of magic could be earned. He saw the woman had a couple of prizes too, grinning. He nodded at a few squires, who drew their weapons as he walked over. He held out his hands, "The Knights will be taking those, evidence of the Screamer's crimes." He didn't expect any resistance, and if she did, he was a Warden Knight, more than capable of cutting down a simple civilian.

If Megumi gave over the gems, the Warden would simply smile and nod, before turning to walk away. However, his metal greaves would clink slightly as he stepped on something that wasn't grass. No one else would notice, but Megumi would. Further inspection would reveal a pair of four inch long razor sharp teeth. They'd been knocked loose from the monster earlier in its fight with the bear, and none of the Knights that had been gathering all that they could had noticed them. It would be the easiest thing in the world to pluck them from the grass, pocket them, and disappear from this nightmare.

If she didn't, however, she'd be attacked, knocked unconscious by a well placed hilt strike. When she awoke, her eyes would see the teeth through the grass, and notice that most of the Knights had left the immediate area.

There were a few moments while watching the Orc Knight that Rilana very nearly brushed off the medic and stepped forward to handle the baby thing herself. Not that he wasn't doing an admirable job of enticing the creature into the leather bag without risking too much of his green skin, but being forced to stand still while her tortured flesh was scrubbed and stitched back together made it easy to see a million other things she could be doing instead.

Don't be foolish. Let them fix it or it will never heal right.

I know, I just don't think this requires quite so much bandage.

She could imagine the gryphon twitching his tail and glaring at her as though she were being unreasonable.

What are you going to do with it? There was no need to ask him to specify.

I...I don't know. I've never heard of a creature like this before. It's important to know more about it.

There was a wordless scoff. Don't lie, you just feel bad for killing a beast that was protecting its young. His mindvoice seemed smug.

It's a familiar story, though. You can hardly fault me for taking in an orphan.

That shut him up. Humbled, she knew that if he stood next to her he'd have lowered his head.

Don't do that. Just keep quiet until this is over so I can get us somewhere you can fly. She didn't have to put the strong need to wrap her arms around his feathery neck into words, he just knew, and he agreed.

Just don't ever let it bite me.

"I will do my best to rest my arm. I suppose my trip home will be longer than I planned." She took the salve and bandages, listening to her instructions with grave seriousness. She didn't want to end up disfigured by rampant infection or preventable scarring. "Thank you for taking the time." It was more than clear to the moon fey that foreigners were second-class here, but the medic had treated her first.

The medic departed and Rilana turned to take the satchel gingerly from Togan, testing it's weight as she slung it over her good shoulder, letting it settle against her shapely hip. Her lips parted, so eager was she to say her farewells and get out of there, but the orc spoke first.

It seemed that the entire universe was preventing her from going home. "I suppose I should," she sighed, more out of mental weariness than frustration, and nodded for the orc to lead the way. But her irritation was waylaid slightly by the sight of the larger creature trussed like a chicken and shoved into a wagon. Someone nearby mentioned that Svarak had subdued it himself.

Guilt.

Stop it, you did what you had to do.

She wasn't so sure.

But picking through the logic of her doubts would have to wait. The Warden was handing her a scroll and she glanced down at the stylized version of a lion's paw pressed into the wax. For her? From Lord Svarak? Speak in private? Her eyes widened. Was it some sort of trap? She reached to tuck the unopened scroll into her travel-pack but realized she had left it back in the stands. Hopefully it hadn't been stolen!

When the Warden went on to ask her what to call the strange, two-headed beast, Rilana's eyes fluttered closed and she lifted a hand to rub the spot between her brows with two slender fingers. After all this, and now she was being asked to be creative? Surely it had a name. "Call it..." a snippet of a child-hood rhyme flitted through her mind, "Call it a Balauradon."

She watched the squire long enough to see him scratch the word down, and then turned to Togan. She pressed her hand, dwarfed by comparison, into his.

"I shall count you as a friend, Togan. And if you ever find yourself in the wilds of the Frostell or the ice halls of Frigmount you should consider yourself welcome."

And then he was gone, leaving Rilana feeling both overwhelmed and bereft in the sudden lack of conversation. Without pause, she turned and moved swiftly for the stands, picking up her pack and vanishing into the grassland around the tourny field.

She noticed that the portal shut and the squire hadn't followed her out yet. She felt a little bad for leaving him behind, but then again, she didn't even know them so there wasn't much of an emotional response to it. She gaze met the Warden Knight with slight disdain. Although it would make sense to take evidence, it didn't seem logical to take what belonged to her. She clicked her tongue in irritation. She couldn't defy this man, because he could easily cut her down, and he couldn't there would be a few squires there to help him.

As the knight walked toward her, she heard a strange clink sound come from his grieves.. Teeth? The knight stepped on some teeth that seemed like they had fallen from the creature. She'll pick those up when the knight was gone, so he couldn't use the same lame excuse to take them away from her. She figured that she should just play off the whole situation without resisting, as the knight would want. She sauntered closer to the knight, her face near his, giving him a flirtatious smile, "Oh of course Sir Knight, best of luck on your investigation~" She whispered to him as she gently pressed the crystals into the knight's hand. She drew away with a slight bow.

During her bow, she had snatched the teeth from the grass, hiding it behind her back in one very swift movement. She held her smile as the knight walked away, when he was out of earshot, she doubled over, cringing from her injury. She slowly picked herself back up and slowly walked away from the arena.

Like the gems, if it wasn't for these pairs of good quality teeth, she would've thought that this whole farce was a complete waste of time. "Yeah. Prove yourself." She scoffed to herself.
