Numbers have been reduced to what I hope looks more realistic. Also altered Alaska's economy and tech levels to make way for new sources of energy.

pls come back guys

Well, some people got pissed at trying to expect down-to-the-last-detail realism. I do get your point, but then again, this is science-fiction. I'm trying to keep things realistic to maintain depth and balance, but not overly true-to-life to ruin interesting possibilities and scenarios.

Whatever. Show must go on.

... It seems I was misled to the relative realism this RP promised.

I pull out completely, enjoy the rest of your time.
It is.
Far more than any sci-fi themed game as of late. Still, we need to consider the fact that not all people are military historians or have the energy to research everything.
Then again, we don't support ridiculously large armies, either. In a sense it may be even better if we don't mention it or if we do then pass it as flavor text because it'll be unlikely we'd encourage people to wring out their calculators and engage in a war of numbers.

So yeah, unless you though this would be an ultrarealistic simulation instead of a fun game in a "realistic" near future setting, you're welcome back!

So, uh... am I good?

Are numbers still necessary? This is my first NRP, and I'm not used to calculating military strength through statistics.

I think I might have to revise my CS a bit, I seem to have overlooked the severity of the rareness of oil. Also I found out that liquid hydrogen and not oil powers spaceships, so they have a point on that there.

*sputters*

Alright, screw Alaska, I'll do something else. Maybe Southeast Asia, Central America or Tibet will suit me better.

The numbers shouldn't be neccessary. They are more of a flavor text, IMO.
As for oil running out, yup, that's part of the plot. I think your nation can work even without oil but as you wish.
And yeah, spceships were never rereally powered by oil.
Also if we are at it I doubt interstellar exploration would have much relevance to this game. So there's no need for cyro and generation ships.
As for space warships... let me get to my computer and I write something about it.

Just curious - are nukes still effective? What are the kinds of WMDs now?

I had a lengthy response explaining everything to you but my browser crashed so I can only say that look up the OOC. Most of your questions were addressed before.
As for nukes versus spaceships. Of course nukes are still very dangerous. Imagine a nuke versus naval ship.
We have no energy shields or supermaterials. While warships may resist MW lasers for a while almost any decent weapon could be fatal with decent hit. The best bet for survival to not receive any hits when possible.
I'll make a tiny essay on "realisstic" space combat when I get the time.

Most of them.
Albeit technically there's a limit on the size of the area you can grab. A scale which is smaller than Russia but almost as large as Europe.

Apologies for my eh... diva-esque exit. Really there's no way to justify that so I'm just going to say I'm sorry and hope for the best. If it's okay with everybody I'd like to return, though how active I'll be depends on my schedule, hopefully fairly active.

I'm still staying out, I was not under the impression that everything in this RP was focused on ultra-realism, but I felt that some level of realism would be imposed. The fact that the profile (no offense to Bing) went through without even so much as a raised eyebrow has made me quite wary of this. whilst I was not going to demand every action and technological marvel in game be justified, it was the level of laxity which put me extremely off-guard, and which I don't think I'm comfortable with, I'm used to more thorough management and scrutiny of "realism".

So I apologies if I came across rather dramatic and self-aggrandizing, but this raised concerns about how the RP would be managed through the game and whether I would want to be involved in that type of hands-off GM'ing, and I'm not certain it fits with the RP style I enjoy.

In that case you're right because this is certainly won't be a game where the GM would actively micromanage things.
It'd be like the rest of the nation games here, GM makes the basic concept, accept players and then everything would be handled by the roleplayers as a whole.

Albeit me and perhaps @MetalLover could help him out. But nothing's set in stone yet.

Republic of Texas-Louisiana

(Republic of Louisiana or RoTL also Works)

Map Location:
(Capital City is New Orleans, Other Major Cities are Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio)

Government Info:
The Republic of Texas-Louisiana elects a President to rule over the country. The populace of the Republic of Texas-Louisiana also elect a governor for each of the 4 states (Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma) with the President ruling above him. The governors serves to be both the head of each of the individual states government and an they are advisers to the president. Both the President and the Governor can serve three four year terms.

The two major parties of the republic are both Conservative. The party that is currently in power is the Republican Party, a continuation of the Republic Party from the US. The other major party, which is a much farther right party is the Freedom Party. It is reactionary in its beliefs, currently the governors of Arkansas and Oklahoma are members of this party.

The Republic also got rid of the Electoral college that the United States had. States lines do not matter in the election, its all down to who gets the most votes.

Military Overview
total Personnel Active: 51,265
Reserves: 3.0 Million
Heavy Tanks Active: 312
Tank Destroyers Active: 666
SPGs Active: 451
Fighter Attack Jets: 2216
Bombers: 1512
Attack, Support, Transport and Recon Air Drones: 9,124
Attack, Transport, Support, and Recon Ground Drones: 7,200
Destroyers: 151
Cruisers: 76
Aircraft Carriers: 8
Battleships: 6
Submarines: 41
Orbital Strike Rod Platforms (OSRD): 25

Economic Overview:
The main source of money for the Republic of Texas-Louisiana is Space-Mining and Agriculture. The government found out a successful way to start farming in the Swamps of Southern Louisiana. Mixing that with the large fields of Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma means that agriculture is a huge industry for the Republic. They export it all around the world.

The Republic of Texas-Louisiana also focuses on Space-Mining. When the oil dried up, they needed to find a new way to make money, so they looked to Space-Mining as an alternative to Oil.

Cultural Description:
The Republic of Texas-Louisiana has kept majority of the culture of the south over the last 100 years. They hold a deep anti-Socialist viewpoint believing that all people must work hard to get far in life. This is why unemployment is so low in the republic.

The Republic of Texas-Louisiana is also a very conservative nation. Liberalism is a very small minority in the republic, with both of the major parties being Right Winged. The Republic of Texas-Louisiana is also a very religious nation, with a total of 80% of the population being Christian.

Technological Overview:
When the oil dried up in Louisiana and Texas all eyes turned to two things, the moon and renewable energy. At first the republic focused on trying to ignore renewable energy but they eventually had to turn to it. The solar panels successfully convert around 40% of the suns energy, which is enough to power a lot of the machinery in the Republic. They also place solar panels on majority of the military and space vehicles to power them.

Space Agency:
The Headquarters for the Republic of Texas-Louisiana's space agency is in Houston. Its there where they create majority of the shuttles that are meant to take people from space and back. They also have another Headquarters in Space, it is similar to the former International Space Station, but it is more advanced and people can stay on it for a longer time.

The Republic focuses a lot on being able to defend its nation, so they made sure that they would have ways to defend the nation from Space. OSRDs are always orbiting earth, ready to drop rods on anyone trying to attack the Republic. The Republic also has 2 fleets of Spacial Warships.

Colonies
The RoTX has colonies multiple Lunar, Martian, and Satellite colonies. The Four Major martian colonies are surrounding Olympus Mons, they all grow into each other into a type of circle shaped colony. They also have small outposts in a two hundred mile radius around Olympus Mons. Majority of the cities have a population of around 200,000

The Lunar colonies all lie around craters, so that mining facilities can all be close to population centers. A total of 10 actual cities are on the moon, with a series of outpost surrounding all of them in a circle. Most of the colonies have around 400,000 people.

The Satellite colonies lie in between the Moon and Mars and are the smallest of the bunch. They are typically only have around 50,000 people on each colony.

History:
It was the 2048 election, the democratic party had won the four last elections but this year it seemed that it would be different. A socialist was running for the Democrats, named Mark Karlson, against the Republican candidate named Jason Reagan. The election seemed to be going the way of the Republicans, with them even winning the majority, but the Electoral College told another story.

Even though the Majority was won bu Jason, the majority of the Electoral College votes went into the direction of the Democrat Mark, leading to the 5th election in a row for a democrat president. During the 2nd year of his presidency something was leaked that would lead to the fall of the Union, it turned out that Mark successfully paid rigged the election to win.

Outrage was across the nation, with riots happening in majority of the Conservative states. The first state to declare independence was Louisiana, the home state of Jason Reagan. Soon after Texas voted for independence and they decided to join Louisiana. Together they formed the Republic.

Arkansas and Oklahoma both soon joined them. The United States was threatening action if the Republic continued its rebellious ways but with Russia supporting the movement they new that if they declared war on Texas-Louisiana that the world would devolve into absolute warfare.

One year after the independence of Texas-Louisiana a successful coup was launched against Mark and soon other states began independence movements. Texas-Louisiana stayed neutral through the whole affair, stating that attacking what was left of the Union would be going against the order of things.

Texas-Louisiana stayed out of international fairs for a while, with the only major thing they did being helping Mexico against the rest of the gangs. Nothing major happened in the Republic up until the rest of the United States declared war against Texas-Louisiana in an attempt to restore the Union. The Union had managed to keep control of majority of its territory through the revolutions.

Russia, Mexico, and the United Kingdom all began using armed Support to help Texas-Louisiana, stating that its reason for revolting against the Union was just. Russian and British troops landed in Texas-Louisiana for an attempt to prepare a defensive war while Mexican troops attempted to hold off American armies. (majority of these nations where allied with Texas-Louisiana because oil, Russia did this because the oil in its nation had ran out way before.

The Mexican armies where quickly destroyed, but they managed to give Texas-Louisana and its Allies enough time to successfully start a campaign against the United States. Texas-Louisiana troops attempted to march through Mississippi while Russian troops defended the Northern and Western borders and the British troops defended the east border and the waters.

The War was a major stalemate with American troops not being able to break through the wall of Russian troops defending the Northern Border. Texas-Louisiana successfully captured all of Mississippi and Alabama before the United States pushed them back to the Mississippi River.

Soon after that the war was dead even, one battle won by the United States, another by Texas-Louisiana. No troops successfully pushing back into the other ones territory. The United States offered a truce, and it has been that way since, with whats left of the former United States government still being in a truced state with Texas-Louisiana.
