You have my interest! This will actually be the first time I've participated in a Star Wars RP in like... ever lol, though my knowledge is rusty, yet still very rich. I'd like to play as both as a sith and a jedi.

Haven't been on this site in a while. You have my interest, mate! Can't wait to get started. I'm thinking of making a Force Sensitive whose trying to study more about what the Force is, after his parents sent him off to learn how to behave like someone from a well-respected family should (He'll be from a political family from Naboo, though he has no real interest in politics, only exploration.) He'll more than likely be going through the rp for some time using blasters, until he starts learning the ancient ways.

I'm only going to allow one character per player, I'm afraid.

Sounds good. Maybe he'll start the game on neither side and have to decide as we play.

@ClatterCakeCould he use an Archaeologist instructor?

edit: I could use an apprentice assistant for excavating the ruins of the Sith academy on Korriban and eventually the Jedi Academy on Dantooine.

TheUnknowable and I are hashing out our character's motivations and interactions right now. So we have a Sith and a Jedi master, just need some apprentices.

If you're interested, send a CS through group PM with both me and @TheUnknowable so we can discuss the character and their role in our plans.

Our plans are pretty general and vague, this will be very character driven. I want, somewhat early in the game, for the two groups to be driven together, but not to stay together. That way there will be history between all characters and conflicts in the future will have undertones of that.

EDIT:

Some very general backgrounds that would be pretty conducive to bringing you to the masters:

Convict who used untrained Force to commit their crimes, would most likely be Sith side after our Lord works to free you from prison.

Anyone who's interested in the history of various Force traditions. Do keep in mind the attitude I've previously described that people have towards it right now.

Daredevils, well known pilots, that sort of thing. Where a Force savvy person might hear of your exploits and be intrigued.

Name: Siador Dren
Appearance:
Age: 30
Personality: Strategic. He'll look for his opponent's weakness and try and attack it. He is not cruel, however, despite his master's protests, as he understands that once you break a person's spirit, they lose much of their worth to you. Instead he prefers turning people using logic, emotion, or even bribery.
Bio: As a teenager from Corascant, he got a job with an archeology team excavating the ruins of Korriban. There he came across a Sith Holocron in a secret chamber within one of the tombs. When he read the ancient Sith inscription that was written on it aloud, "Peace is a lie, there is only Passion.", it opened.
"Yes, but do you understand what that means?" the hologram asked him. He wanted to take the holocron to his employer, but he decided to study it first. As he spoke to it he learned many things, and though he was skeptical at first, his lessons included how to use the force to move objects.
Their sponsor was simply a rich man looking for more treasures to show his rich friends so when, one year later, the man pulled their funding the rest of the team packed up to leave. Saidor decided to stay behind, to continue the search, as he told them. After they left the Sith taught him many things, and even showed him where and how to find artifacts of Sith power within the ruins.
He sales most the minor trinkets he finds in order to buy supplies from traders that pass by, generally ordering what he needs from nearby worlds.
Equipment: Ancient Sith Holocron (remains in the chamber where he found it, which has become his study), Ancient Sith lightsaber (still partially functional, on display in his study), ancient computer terminal (salvaged from the nearby Sith Academy Ruins), Assorted machines (he does live here after all), Sith Robes (made of Hississ leather for strength and durability), Red Lightsaber (made by him using Sith manufacturing methods and modern tech. Sith magics insure that no one who follows the light side can touch it without getting electrocuted.)

Stats and Skills

Dexterity: 2

Perception: 2
Treasure hunting: 3

Strength: 5
Lightsaber combat: 7

Technical: 2
Archaeology: 4

Force: 5
Telekinesis: 7
Lightning: 6
Healing: 6

All of this sounds nice. I really hope that the whole PvP aspect will come out all right and there will be no personal quarrels between players.

I will cook up a CS shortly, but I do have a few questions:

1. Just how proficient can our characters be? As in, are they allowed to study multiple lightsaber fighting forms/try to combine multiple ones in an individualized fighting style?

2. On the same note, what about force abilities? Over-the-top Starkiller style or a more toned-down approach?

3. I suppose there will be a form of hierarchy within the Jedi and Sith order. As such, will everyone be an apprentice or will we have more advanced/inferior positions also? (initiates, acolytes, padawans, knights)

Personal quarrels are why I'm trying to institute some dice work. Basically the rule will be: If you lose the roll, I'm sorry but that's that.

1 & 2. We're going more OT powers, the sort of skill that Luke exhibits rather than anything from the expanded universe, video games, etc.

3. For Jedi everyone'll be an apprentice until knighted. The Sith is up to TheUnknowable.

It depends on your skill. I'll use the Jedi ranks, but depending on how good you are with the Force and a lightsaber you'll have a different rank. At first you'll be an initiate, then once your basic training is over you'll become an acolyte. I'll promote a skilled Sith or two to Knight after they do something impressive, like kill a Jedi or Mandalorian, and we'll take Padawans/apprentices until they learn enough to rise in rank. Only Knights and above will even learn about the holocron, though, as I don't want to lose it.

We'll move into the ruins on Korriban as an "archaeology research team" and use it as our base.

I have an idea for a character, but without a dice system, I'm not sure how viable it would be, as it would require people to realize and actually role play the fact that just because you have a lightsaber, you can still get shot by a blaster.

@GalgarionYeah, you can get shot, but even a Padawan can deflect it or redirect it back at the attacker. I guess you need to overwhelm them with blaster bolts, like Jango Fett did on Geonosis.

See, I just don't agree with that, yeah, a jedi can deflect some stuff, and can kinda tell when something is flying at him, but unless he is a friggin jedi master, I just can't see him being all /that/ tough to hit, calling back the Geonosis scene, think of how many jedi dropped really fast to just the droids, even before the super battle droids show up? The main thing people see and remember are the Heroes, and of course they aren't going to to be hit much, if at all, they are central to the story. Try and think of how many jedi were hunted down by just stormtroopers in the 20 years between 3 and 4, Vader didn't take them all down, he was only called in for the Masters, and really powerful ones. I'm not saying that jedi don't have an edge, but that is all it should be, a slight edge, not a nigh impregnable wall.

I wasn't thinking of blocking huge numbers of blaster bolts, but just after order 66 there is a Padawan that deflects a few of them before getting hit. Also, Jango took out a Jedi Knight with three blaster bolts because he knew how to fight them, so definitely not an impenetrable defense. Like everything, it really comes down to the skills of the two players.

I'm working on a dice system as we speak. I'm thinking it's going to be a simplified, modified version of that Star Wars D6. If you're not familiar with it, don't bother reading that PDF, because it's just a lot of stuff and the majority of it is going to be useless.

When I do get it up, a few things to keep in mind:

There'll be skills besides lightsaber fighting and using the Force. They will be important, too. Because there will be events besides lightsaber duels. There will even be PVP events that don't involve lightsaber duels.

GM's, me or TheUnknowable, will make all rolls. This is to prevent people from being able to accuse each other of cheating.

In PVP situations, you'll roll the relevant skills against each other, but each character isn't necessarily rolling the same skill. So, in @Galgarion's example, a blaster vs a saber, you'll roll the blaster skill against the saber skill. That way, if you're skilled enough with a blaster, you can get past the saber's guard. Lightsabers won't be the end all be all, a Jedi is not invulnerable by any stretch. That leads us into:

Characters can(and I actually hope will) die. If your character dies, you can make a new one if you want to stay in the game. The new character will not start as a part of either group, and both will likely try to recruit you. They will start at the bottom, as far as skills go, and have to move up.

I do intend to allow skills to advance. Right now my idea for that system is it will be based on how many successes and failures they have. Every result adds "experience" but successes add more than failures(or, I might even consider doing it the other way around, kind of like you learn from failures). Every level will take more experience to advance, so characters with lower skill levels will be able to catch up(if I let failures give more experience, lower leveled characters will also level even faster, which I think might be good. What is thought of this?) Not every failure will equal death, even in combat.

I hope to get the system up for review later tonight, but I'm too busy most of the day to hack it out.

I like the "more experience from losing" idea, as you see your weaknesses when you lose.

Kind of Interested, Just a Few Points I Want to Make Here:

1. In Now Non-Canonical Sources, Luke Did Succeed in Reestablishing the Jedi Order, Basing in the Old Temple on Yavin 4.

2. After the Fall of the Old Republic, The Sith Lord Sidious, Aka Emperor Palpatine, Continued the Sith Tradition of "There Can Only Be Two". This is the Basis of the Sith after the Fall of the Sith Empire, that There Can Only Ever be Two at a Time: A Master and an Apprentice.

3. This is a Question I Have: Some Jedi, Such as Mace Windu and Mara Jade, Were Jedi In Tune with the Dark Side of The Force. Could that Somehow be Utilized as Part of This?
3a. This is What I Know about The Purple Lightsaber: It's Users are Former Sith Turned Jedi or Jedi Who Trained in the Dark Side.

Just a Little Nit Picky About This Kind of Thing, Seems Like a Neat Idea Though.
