I, Nicholas II, of Russia am enjoying a stately dinner with my family in Kiev. I was here to look at some troublesome matter of the state and the family was here for a change of view and atmosphere, Moscow was getting darker, more restless. It was a fine meal, better than I'd had in some time actually, since my kitchen staff was always short due to someone running off to join a revolution somewhere. What did these people want, life isn't easy for anyone, just because our difficulties are different and our pleasures more apparent, doesn't mean that we have it any better off. I find myself wishing sometimes that I were a minor noble, one who could enjoy his family, and not constantly have to fend off some disaster or another. Oh bother, I should have chewed that bit of mutton more. I pound a fist to my chest, trying to dislodge the bit of meat stuck in my wind pipe, to no avail. The steward rushes forward, offer wine to clear it out, I gulp the the wine but still cannot breath. I lean forward trying to cough it out, the steward pounds my back, trying to dislodge it... again to no avail.

What terrible way to day, could it possibly be any worse? The Emperor of Russia slain by a bit of ill chewed dinner of all things, I almost wish I had died to those blasted revolutionaries instead. I continue to choke, my eyes seeing floating black spots, I look to my wife, and try to smile... though it probably looks more akin to a grimace. I take her hand and squeeze it once, as my world fades to black, the panicked voices around me drifting away down a well... wait that wasn't right, I was the one drifting not they. Little did it matter, for all is silent blackness now and I Nicholas the II of Russia have died.

I am Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich, of Russia, and I have just learned of the Emperor's death. I consult with my advisers and it seems the only way to avoid a revolution in this time of political upheaval is declare him assassinated by some country and go to war, hoping to distract the people from revolution with a bloody conquest. But who would assassinate the Emperor? Japan? maybe, but no one wanted anything more to do with Japan, not after the last war. The Ottomans? Perhaps, though it seemed unlikely that they would have the necessary resources to do so... who then might they blame for this death that Russia could rally together again? Unless, it was simply time for a new Russia to be born. That would never work, it would only get lost in the bureaucracy and lead to revolution, though a new Russia was needed today. I send my advisers out to find the most competent men in the nation, in the world if necessary, and bring them to St. Petersburg. I order troops Marshaled for inspection, and to display the strength of a mourning empire. I mostly wanted to know just how weak we really were today. I stand as Regent of the Empire of Russia, until Nicholas II's son, Alexi was of an age to rule. I order the press to announce the mysterious death of our beloved Emperor to the world, and that the investigation was ongoing, perhaps someone would be foolish enough to claim responsibility for the act of treason.

The week passes slowly, the world is shocked by the sudden unexpected loss of one it's greatest leaders, and I struggle to keep the nation from being torn apart at the seams. I have for my own sanity's sake had several incompetent fools discretely removed from their positions of influence and power, Rasputin being one of them. He now works with the army in Siberia, near the Manchurian lines, or what was left of them. Competent administrators and leaders are persuaded to fill their empty boots and begin bringing Russia back to her former glory. It's still far to soon to tell how any of this will end, but perhaps... perhaps, we will survive the embers of bitter revolution.

News traveled fast in the world these days.

Within forty eight hours of the tragic event, news of the death of Tsar Nicholas II had reached France by telegraph. While the cause of death was unknown, newspapers all over France requested that the French people offer their prayers to family of the stricken Tsar and the Russian people.

At the government level, plans were quickly being redrawn and reworked as required. Prior agreements with Russia would either have to be re-agreed upon or redrawn to meet the requirements of the new government and the diplomatic visit to Russia by President Poincaré to help reinforce the Franco-Russian Alliance needed to be moved up in order for the President to attend the funeral of the late Tsar and aid in strengthening the alliance between the two great nations.

Prime Minister H. H. Asquith read the morning paper with a steely gaze, one gloved hand allowing him to sip his tea, only in order to spit it out again once he saw that the Tsar of Russia had died in mysterious circumstances - his position taken over by a 'Regent', a man that he and the Crown did not know. There had been revolutionary mumblings within the Russian territories, this he knew to be fact, and in his keen mind he wondered which side this Dmitri Pavlovich, a Grand Duke apparently, was on? Who knows, Pavlovich might even have had his own monarch's cousin assassinated! Heaven forbid, but in these times of uncertainty one never quite knew what to expect, and the case was apparently still being investigated.

With another sip of tea to replace the one he had just wasted, and one should never waste tea, he returned swiftly to the business of running an empire and the Commonwealth within it; it was nice to have an empire, he had always thought, a British Empire at that, and it continued to amaze him how so few regular military forces could keep it all under control. He was of the liberal party himself, a man of and for the people so he liked to think, but one had to admire the way in which the dominions had been held down and linked to the motherland over so many years.

"Sir?"

Oh yes, he had entirely forgotten the man standing silently before him. Oddly enough, this man - though he could never remember his name, so had taken to calling him 'John' - had come to make sure that all the treaties between Russia and Britain were still in place.

"Yes, yes, tell this Grand Duke that all will remain as it is between our two nations."

"I hear word that President Poincaré himself shall be attending the funeral of the King's departed relative, sir."

"Will he now?! Can never underestimate the French, John, never. They have never liked us, nor we them, you just remember that."

"I shall sir, I shall, but how are we to respond to this? We cannot have Great Britain absent from proceedings, it would cast us in a most unflattering light."

"You do have a point, John," admitted the Prime Minister, "you will leave for Russia immediately therefore, taking with you a letter which I shall write, and joining the mourning. Agreed?"

Reginald Smithe internally flinched at how he was treated by this man, a man he saw as inferior to himself in every way, but readily agreed to leading a diplomatic expedition to the other side of the world. Anything to get away from Asquith!

Meanwhile the wheels of empire kept turning, people rose and slept, business went on as usual, most nations now looked to Russia to see what would happen next; Britain herself was not overtly worried, and would retain all current treaties, for now.

Kaiser Wilhelm II was devastated when news of Nicholas' death reached him. He had been sitting in his dining room, eating dinner, when the messenger arrived. "Message for you, my lord." The out-of-breath boy stammered, fumbling around in his bag for the letter. "Well, spit it out, so I can return to my meal." The Kaiser ordered in reply, already growing impatient. "Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich, Crown Regent of the Empire of Russia, must regretfully inform you that Emperor Nicholas II of Russia has passed. Cause of death has yet to be determined. The Crown Regent would also like for it to be known that you have been formally invited to the funeral." The boy read aloud, as the Kaiser sat there, stunned. "No...not Nicky..." gasped Wilhelm, barely able to comprehend what he had just heard. "Parchment...fetch me the parchment...and my good pen. I wish to write a reply." He mumbled, and the boy rushed to complete the task. Taking the pen and paper, the Kaiser wrote up a return letter...

"The death of the Russian Tsar hit the Spanish lands, though it really meant nothing to the Spanish people. I on the other hand find it quite tragic that the Spanish government never found the time to perform diplomatic relations with such a great power. Maybe Russia's new leader will be just as great as the last, from my own personal travels anyways. Hopefully, the kind will engage to support Russia in some way, trade would possibly be the best option. We must support each other, I feel every nation must support each other through times like these." -Quote from a Spanish Newspaper Article.

"It seems the people are calling for action, my king," A servant said as he brought his King, Alfonso XIII.

"It is one newspaper, nothing to get worried about. Russia will fall apart regardless of these rumors of revolution are true."

"Indeed."

"Besides we must get ourselves on track, especially the economy."

"As you wish, my lord."

Washington DC, outside the White House

"The death of Tsar Nicholas II of the Russian Empire is a horrible event indeed. I've always had respect for the Russian nation and its people for many reasons, which is why I would like to publicly announce that if his death is found to be an assassination by some rationalist or terrorist that I will join the Russians in any conflict against the nation that had sent the man to kill the great Tsar. I would also like to announce that I will personally be attending the funeral of the Tsar." -Speech by Woodrow Wilson

Inside the white house Lindley Garrison and William Jennings Bryan where sitting at a table discussing the possibility of an assassination against the great Tsar.

"It's obvious that the death of Tsar Nicholas was not by accident, rarely do people just drop dead like that," stated Lindley.

"Yes, but was it some crazed nationalist looking to be a hero or someone sent against the Russians by a rival nation?"

"I don't know, but I'd say the most likely candidate of setting up the assassination where the Japanese. Tensions between Russia and Japan have been high since the Russo-Japanese War."

"Yes Lindley, I get that, but would Japan really put themselves in that position, I'd say that it was probably some nationalist from the Caucasus or Poland."

"Ok then, let's just hope that it wasn't anyone big who planned it, a war between two great powers could escalate into something that would bring the world to its knees."

William Jennings nods and he leaves the room, leaving Lindley there to think about possible scenarios.

Tokyo Square, Tokyo, Japan, Empire of Japan

The death of Tsar Nicholas II of the Russian Empire is a great shock throughout the Empire of Japan. Even if the Russian Empire and the Empire of Japan had a bitter relations after the events of the Russo-Japanese War, I would give condolences to the Tsar although I cannot attend to the funeral of Tsar Nicholas II. Rest in peace, Tsar Nicholas. - Speech of Emperor Taishō

After the speech of Emperor Taishō

With the death of the Tsar Nicholas II of the Russian Empire, I call this as a great turn of the Japanese Empire. With his death, the Russian Empire will starting to collapse due to the corruption of the Russian autocracy. With this great turn, we will start spreading our influence in their Siberian strongholds. If the war would broke out, then we will sent our occupying forces to that area. - Emperor Taishō

Antonio Salandra, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Italy, stared uncomprehendingly at the front page of his newspaper. 'Tsar Dies! shrieked the title, which had almost caused the Italian leader to topple backwards off his chair at first sight. A leader of such power and influence... just gone, in an instant. It reminded him just how powerless human being are.

It also brought forth ideas.

With the Tsar gone, and this 'Regent' in place, the Russians would be severely weakened. Germany and Austria would no doubt be pleased about that, the two Kaisers having been the opponents of Russian influence since the collapse of the Three Emperors' Alliance. The Serbs, in turn, would be deserted by their strongest ally if the Ivans became too destabilised. A window of Italian opportunity in the Balkans had opened.

The newly independent Principality of Albania, just barely held together by an unpopular government, sat waiting across the Adriatic. If Russia was weakened, Serbia would not be secure enough to intervene in Albania if Italy chose to... stabilise the nation by sending military forces. Greece might react, but that was hardly an issue. Simply handing over Northern Epirus would probably satisfy their 'Megali Idea', and avoid British intervention. Austria-Hungary was a non-issue - they were hardly in a position to add yet more resentful Slavs to their Empire.

Salandra blinked, and shook his head. How odd that these thoughts came to him now, alone, without the King or Government around him. Yet the idea was there, and the possibilities were almost endless. If, of course, things went to plan.

Constantine I, King of Greece, sat baffled in his throne room. The Russian Tsar was dead, gone forever. This was bound to have implications on the global scale. His mind was already going through the implications of this in his head, Russia would blame it on one of the other great powers. Europe would be shaken to the core, alliances would be destroyed over this, and Constantine was expecting the worst.

Hermes da Fonseca, President of Brazil sat in his room quietly thinking about how quickly these events had played out. The Russian Tsar was dead and it seemed that people where already beginning to take sides. No matter how this turned out, this was going to be an end of an Era for the World. If the world devolved into war, he already knew what side he would side with. A grin grew across his face as he wrote down his plans for an all out war

The throne room of Peter the first was empty except for the king himself. The news of the death of the Tsar saddened him greatly, the alliance between Russia and Serbia was probably the only thing that kept Austria-Hungary from conquering them. He looked at the ceiling, for countless hours Peter had done this during his reign, and he'll probably do this for a countless amount of more. The Concert of Europe that had held the continent together for so long had lost one of its foundation pieces and now it seemed like no encore would be played for the concert.
Peter got up and left the throne room to go to his bed chamber, he would sleep and hopefully in the morning his mind would be clear enough to think of the right action.

After the death of Tsar Nicholas II, the news of his death spread throughout the Empire of Japan, from Korea to the Japanese mainland. It was a truly a shock, even I was shocked. My people don't even care from the death of Tsar Nicholas II..including me, but the Tsar's death was the sign of the collapsing Russian autocracy, soon, war will be prevailed.

Meanwhile, in the Korean Peninsula, the only two major industrial cities are Pyongyang and Seoul, Japan had occupied Korea since the Korean Empire agreed to get by annexed by the Empire of Japan. Emperor Taishō had created a Japanese Korean Army; a new branch of the Imperial Japanese Army. However, the Japanese colonial government will make their best to make Korea under control. The Japanese economy is increasing rapidly becaus of Korea.

The Empire of Japan had start spreading influence throughout China as China was engulfed into a warring states. The target was Manchuria. Manchuria is part of the Japanese sphere-of-influence and part of a future territory of Japan. Emperor Taishō thought that if Japan would interfere the China's Warlord Era, Japan will quickly annex Manchuria but that's risky, he doesn't want to start an another war with the Chinese but if the China's Warlord Era was spilled to the neighboring nations such as the Russian Empire and the Empire of Japan. Japan would likely to interfere and to annex Manchuria quickly since Manchuria is part of the future territories of Japan. Taishō wouldn't spread influence to the Russian Far East yet, all his ambitions towards the Russian Empire is patience.

"I do not like President Wilson's little speech. Russia being backed by America could threaten our nation," King Alfonso stated as he heard of the speech in the Spanish newspaper, once it had gone viral of course. "We need allies now more than ever."

"Well, there a multitude of different nations. No doubt one of them would side with Spain in the case of a war," stated the servant, pouring a cup of tea for Alfonso. "Then again it is not my duty to advise you, sir."

Alfonso sighed as he took his tea and began sipping on his tea momentarily. Going deep in thought on who would back Spain in a time of war.

The Emperor's funeral was grand, refined and elegant. The entire thing took most of a day, with some of the speeches being moved to the day after. Grand Duke Dimitri was present for the entire funeral, and gave a brief but eloquent speech, expressing the grief of the Russian people, and the great loss the world shared in his demise. He hinted that retribution, if was deemed necessary, would be served with the full might of the Russian Empire and it's allies behind it.

I am Commander Bronislav Ivanov, I command the Imperial Guard's 48th Army Corps in Yakutsk, Siberia. We have recently been tasked with mobilizing quietly and moving to the Manchuria area. We have no orders to attack, but I have been warned that we may be moving into a combat zone and should make all the necessary preparations. Secrecy could mean our survival, so I drafted orders to prepare for an exercise in the Ural mountains. The lads would pack everything for that, plus I hinted at a probable royal inspection upon arrival, so the lads would have everything in good working order too, or as much as they could. Dmitri had sent a surprising amount of extra stores, arms, munitions, and uniforms, so he might actually be able to achieve something approaching operations ready. The lads were very grateful for all the food Dmitri had sent, and the new uniforms were warmer, and also the boots were not full of holes. Dmitri had almost sent enough of everything, what he lacked in supplies he made up for in a very generous war chest. I made the necessary acquisitions, and we spent the week training in and with the new gear.

As the week ends I give orders to move out, my aides posting a schedule to load the trucks that would be transporting us all to the Japanese front. How could I think of it as anything else? It was a perfect plan they had come up with, assassinating the Emperor in such restless times, when Russians would fight each other instead of their enemies. And after the last war, no one wanted start another fight with japan... except for me. I had lost a father and two brothers to them on the field of battle. And I had sworn to avenge them, perhaps God was smiling upon me at last, and would aid us in this new war.

I send a letter back to Dmitri, announcing that I was moving to Manchuria with 48th Army Corp in tow, and the utmost secrecy. It was impossible to hide our movements, but I took steps to make them in consequential when possible, and when not, I relied on misinformation, we moved west to an exercise in the Urals. Even most of our drivers didn't know our true destination. They would learn when they were directed to continue following the lead vehicle, by myself and my staff. We were going south, and then east. We would transfer the heavy equipment to trains at Neryungri, and the 48th would regroup at Tynda where I would set up my personal HQ, and begin scouting out Japanese positions to the south and south east. I had strict orders to hold at Tynda, so I would also be gathering stores and ammunition for the coming war. As I get into my personal vehicle, an aide rushes up handing me a sheet of paper. It had a simple message, a headline for some newspaper probably. It read, "Jap agents frame local dissidents in assassination." I crumpled the sheet, in my hand, and told the aide that we would continue as planned until new orders arrived, which I would be checking for regularly. I would soon find my initial assumption correct, it was the front page headline of the national newspaper.

The Death of the Russian Tsar surprised the Austro-Hungarian Emperor Franz Joesph I who had decided to send his condolences to Russia, he had also been considering alliance with them under the guise that alliances would help the falling empire and Russia would have the potential to help Austria-Hungary quell the nationalism in conquered areas of the Empire if rebellion ever started in the Austro-Hungarian Empire,
