Hello lads I will make this short and simple explaination so here to goes:

Okay imagine you control a senator in the begining of rome's rise to power. You must lead your family through the world of political intrigues through wars and hardships and hopefully to become Imperator. Now the game will work much like the avalon hill board game republic of rome the goal is of course having your family/house become Dictator for life aka Princep aka Emporer of rome. I have all the game mechanics down and will explain them at request. But another big thing is we will lead rome from the end of the wars with the etruscan league so you can effectivly change the history of rome being able if you can manage it to create what if situations such as what if you made an alliance with carthage (I doubt you could manage it but who knows) or didnt get the assistance of Attalus in the macadonian wars. This idea is still in the working since i am finishing up game mechanics but i will gladly answer any questions or like to hear any critisims (constructive mind you) and reccomendations and hell if i can find someone willing and skilled enough i might take on a assistant GM to help me work out everything.

I'll say I'm interest at the moment, but I may not be fully committed because I'm in quite a few games at the moment. I've always been a fan of the late Republic era of Rome.

OKay sorry it took me so long but i was awfully busy but anyhow here is the basic rules:

Your Senator and his House
_________________________________
Okay We start out the Game by each of the players making their House and their House's first Senator
Houses willof course climb the ladders of roman politics startiong with a single senator and eventually if you are sucessful get one of your senators become the Imperator (this goal will take along time to achieve this :P)
Now your senator will be the main aspect of game play they will be your tools in which you must build up your political prestige now senators have 3 different aspects (note these numbers will be graded by me according to your characters personality and history which will be in their CS)
Oratory: The first aspect which is very important for keeping the plebs in order this aspect covers the senators ability to do public speaking and his overall charisma and lingual skill.
Military: This aspect covers your senators ability will cover your senator's ability to lead troops into battle this aspect become important when rome gets into wars and also the unlikely chance of a senator going rogue and rebelling.
Loyalty: This final aspect will cover your senator dedication to your house and will be very useful when another house tries to perseude him to turncoats. but also remember loyalty can easily be bought!
Now that you know what the sneator has for abilities i bet you are wondering what in hell he can do well almost anything as long as he doesnt step over his authority in the senate at the begining of the game your senator has one vote this number can be raised by climbing the political ladders and getting positions. But wait rome can be quite dangerous if you are not wary so i warn you, all your senators (with the exclusion of your family patriarch) can be bribed and convinced to turn coats and all of them can be assasinated.

Gameplay
__________________________________________________
Now the game will be broken apart into several different sections which are listed below along with the phase name i will write a brief overview as what is to happen when that phase comes

1.Mortality:This is a very short part in which is PM any of the players if their senators have died either from assasination or natural causes note I will not tell them directly if the man died naturally or from foul play but I may leave hints and clues depending on the death and it's true circumstances
2.Finaces: In this phase the senators recieve their payment from their businesses and if they have any the money they get from governing a region also within this phase businesses may be bought and traded but the exactness of that i will cover in a later section. During this phase I shall deal with rome's taxes and post it's current budget
2. Event phase: This phase I will announce any current problems within rome through a post on the IC these events can range from a rebbellion by the plebs to droughts and famine. Also during this phase you may attempt to assasinate other senators and try to bribe them to turn coats this can be done by sending me a PM with the appropiate information. Also I will Pm any players if they by their actions have recieved any events of their own these events much like the national event vary and usually will be in relation to their actions and the national events. It is also at this point the rome consul may announce a state of the Republic adress to the plebs which depending on events and oratory skill will be either positive or negative.
3.Senate: This phase is the biggest and most exicting of the phases this is where the real business gets done. All the players beset with the national event and any personal events shall meet in senate and discuss the issues. This phase will be headed by Rome Consul who is elected at the begining of the game and serves for 2 years (two game turns). The Senators if have a triburne or high enough standing may present a bill or action of some sorts such as raising a legion or changing taxes or laws. During this phase voting will take place to elect governers of the different regions and any open positions within the senate. It is also during this phase that a player may announce a crime and there by causing a investigation by the censor and following the investigation a court case (This aspect will be covered in a later section).

4. Military.
During this phase the elected field consul (and if elected Dictator and his master of horse) shall do any actions in which they want to move their troops and preform any military operations such as a invasion or even a De coup (Which will cause that senator going rogue and being named enemy of the state ). This phase will also be where any combat is resolved by me who will modify and roll the sucess depending on the leading generals decisions and military skill.

That bit covers the basics of gameplay and the routine of play I will post another section which will cover other topics in more detail. I thank you all for sitting through and reading that awfully long drawl of a overview and I hope you all like it and if you have a idea or suggestion as to the rules feel free to state it.

So far looks good.

Edit: Also, I looked up the Avon Hill board game Republic of Rome. Are we going to be able to make our own families (although preferably picking actual Roman families, such as from this list)? The Avon Hill board game had pre-made characters. I just wanted to have clarification on this aspect of the game.

Also, this is another useful page on Roman names.

Well yes I am aware that they had pre made senators but I left the option open for the people to decide if you want to I can use one of the senators from the a Avalon hill game for some one's senator if they wish the only problem I see with that is some of the cards like Julius and Claudius are extremely unbalance having a amazing score in all of their skills
