Biographical Information
Personality:Rehemea is a carefree, cheerful person. As a ghost, she's literally incapable of dying again, so she takes a much more relaxed attitude towards her own existence. She's also very patient, because she knows that she has all the time in the world to wait. In her travels, she's met people of every species, alliance, and belief system. She saw a lot of suffering and misfortune, but also hope, joy, and love. These experiences have made her quite accepting of others' differences, and although she's aware that there's misery in the world, Rehemea remains an optimistic person at heart. She laughs easily and often, and happiness is her default state. However, part of her happiness stems from her inability to empathize with others' misfortunes. She has never experienced, and can never experience, the troubles that they've been through, so she doesn't understand their grief. This may cause her to come off as insensitive and dismissive, especially towards those who are suffering. Rehemea is fairly passive most of the time - she likes to listen and watch without getting involved. However, she will interfere if a situation is not to her liking. Twenty-two is quite young for an elf, and in many ways, she hasn't matured far beyond the child she was when she died.
Skills:Rehemea can speak, read, and write nearly every commonly used language in the world as a result of her wanderings. Under Santo's tutelage, she's learned some mathematics, history, natural philosophy, and politics, but her education was scattered at best. She also has all the abilities that come with being a ghost, including flight, passing through solid objects, invisibility, and briefly becoming solid. However, since she has a hard time affecting the physical world, Rehemea has few practical skills of that nature.
Biography:Rehemea was born in a small elven village long before the war, when the dragons were still hidden and the land was at peace. She lived a simple, content life, hunting in the forest alongside her mother and assisting her father with his carpentry. Their village was located an hour's walk from the ocean. Rehemea loved to visit the seaside cliffs where she could feel stand and feel the salt breeze on her skin, or climb down and take a swim at the beach. However, even seemingly idyllic lives have flaws. She and her older brother Xolan often feuded with each other, usually over trivial matters like whose turn it was to chop the firewood. Due to their violent elven nature, their feuds often came to physical blows that left them both bruised and aching.
One evening, while she was at the cliffs with her brother, a sudden storm blew in and rain began to pour. Naturally, Rehemea and Xolan each blamed the other for getting them trapped in a downpour far away from home. She slapped him, and in his anger, Xolan shoved Rehemea as hard as he could. Neither of them had expected the wind, combined with his push, to throw her off the edge of the cliff. Rehemea fell to the jagged rocks below, and died.
The people of their village erected a small stone cairn at the cliffside. Consumed by guilt, Xolan visited her grave every day. Perhaps it was due to his guilt, perhaps it was because she died angry at him, but Rehemea reappeared at the cairn as a ghost a week after her death. She returned to her family for a while, but found that her presence was only a painful reminder of the whole, elven daughter that her parents had lost, to be replaced by an incorporeal being whom they couldn't touch or see in the daytime. Her brother actively avoided her, unable to face the sister he'd killed even though she claimed that she didn't blame him. She realized that it would be best for everyone if she left, so she did.
Rehemea departed her hometown and traveled the world. She found an odd sort of freedom in being a ghost - she didn't need to eat, drink, or sleep, and she could gain access almost anywhere by turning herself invisible. For decades, she traveled the world, observing different peoples and different ways of life. She chatted with those who were friendly to her and left if the residents of a place made it clear that she wasn't welcome. Although she rarely stayed in any one place for long, Rehemea did strike up a friendship with Santo Evanis, a vampire who worked the night shift at a university library. Whenever she visited, he lent her books and taught her things like history and natural philosophy that she couldn't learn through simple observation, and in return she recounted to him all the stories of her travels.
