How's it going folks. Today I present to you all a roleplay with an ending in sight. It is going to be a 30 day survival scenario. I have put together a good deal of the statistics already, but would like to know if anyone would be into this before I move forward with it. On the old site, I did a couple of stat-based RPs, so this isn't my first rodeo, but this is one with a set goal in mind. It would work like this:
Each character would be given a set amount of stat points to put into a skill list at the beginning of the rp. Throughout the story, characters would pass through "skillchecks", if you aren't familiar with the concept of skillchecks, these are scenarios that a character encounters that test certain skills. As the GM i would present you with a certain skillcheck. To keep creativity in the mix, all I would do is present you with what skills is being checked, and the skill points necessary to pass said skillcheck. If your character fails the skillcheck, they are consequences, if they pass, then there's benefits. It's a pretty simple system, however there is some statistical backdrop to it.
I use random.org for all randomness, so everything is done by a computer and not by my potentially biased mind. Some things that are ran through the site are as follows:
-Chance of a skillcheck (this is the chance that your character will be faced with a skillcheck in the next turn)
-Skill chosen for skillcheck (What skill is going to be checked?)
-Skill level required to pass check
-bonus turns (chance of receiving a boost in Distance covered, or "DC", this will be covered in more detail if there's sufficient interest in this RP)
-Random encounters (Finding something either beneficial or detrimental to your character. Sometimes these will go hand-in-hand with skillchecks. This gives your character a chance to find or lose items that could help you in the future.)
-chance of perk activation (perks are chosen attributes outside of skills that give bonuses in certain categories. Say you have a perk that gives you a 50% chance of keeping an item when you would have otherwise lost it in a random event. The chance of it activating and saving your item is calculated here)
etc etc. I could cover all the things, but that would be tiresome and probably fairly boring to read. Let me know if any of you would be interested in joining in on this!
