Gonna take a detour from the previous topics.

I am seriously pissed off by how sensitive we seem to be nowadays. Recently I heard on the radio that a school in Wisconsin has banned the use of the words "Air Ball" whenever someone misses, as well as a few other words so that the kids don't feel bad. I mean, REALLY? Have we become so sensitive like that that we have to make sure we don't make anyone cry? Grow a pair and get over it.

So the kids feel bad about themselves, they'll get over it. It's healthy to feel bad about yourself, get embarrassed, etc. When you grow up, you'll have a greater threshold to get through those circumstances where people will try to make you feel bad. If we try to limit this, the kids will grow up not knowing how to handle these situations.

That may be going to the extreme, but I am sick of how PG we have to be nowadays, lest we insult someone. Too bad, I'll say whatever I feel. My opinions are just that, MY opinions. If you don't like them, great, you're entitled to that. Instead of whining about how it made you feel bad, strap on a pair, build a bridge over your river of tears, and get over it!

*deep breaths*

Ok, that felt good.

I agree. The zero tolerance thing in schools is unhealthy. I think the problem is that we've let the middle class parent become the cultural zeitgeist in a lot of places, and the really isn't anything less soul-dead in this world. Of course the nice thing about it is that, with the internet age making it so easy to communicate, you can find your own people and swim out of all that relatively easily. And once you are an adult you won't have to deal with the BS in schools. It is only the BS in the workplace you have to deal with then, and since the entire point of work is to have the life sucked out of you for cash, bland formality is just par for the course there.

On the other hand though, I have to say that I've always found the entire "It's my opinion, i'm entitled to it, fuck off if you don't like it." attitude sort of funny. That's cool if that is what you want to do, but it gets silly when those same people start bitching about how people get offended by them. You mean you go around being a dick to other people and they got annoyed? Who would have thunk it?

There is a difference between being a dick and expressing a different opinion though. I'm sure you're aware, but I feel the need to make that distinction.

Agreed on everything else though. I hate having to watch my words less I hurt someone's feelings. And no, I think we should be nicer as a culture. I'm not saying go around being mean and screw everyone else, but I'm mainly referring to the instances of someone being butthurt because someone said something they didn't particularly like, like the waitress who got fired because she labeled her table as a "black couple" when they didn't have table numbers.

Yeh that one is an extreme I agree, but when not dealing with the extremes it is always wise to be aware that wherever you draw the line isn't the same as where others draw the line. It is better to accept that what you say can have consequences with other people than it is to tell everybody that where you draw the line is the only place the line should ever be drawn. Because at the end of the day, you can't change other people's opinions, and shooting yourself in the foot all the time isn't going to do you any good in the long run.

If it's something on their profile then who gives a shit? Just don't message them and move on with your life.

I dont message them, I'm saying its ridiculous to say that shit in the first place. And check the thread title, its a bitchfest. We are complaining about shit we think is dumb. Maybe you have it confused with the 'Ignore things and move on' thread somewhere else.

Look, this is the last thing I'm gonna say about this because this discussion has gone on way too long and I'm about to smoke a bowl and will be out of commission for a while.

It being in their profile affects you in no way, it's a ridiculous thing to get angry about, and it sounds like a cheap excuse to get angry at women. My advice is to stop caring so much.

And people say feminists go out of their way to be angry at stuff.

Trust me, if i was looking for an excuse to get 'angry at women' I'd choose something a lot broader then the idiotic profile choices of a small minority. Thanks for the advice but no thanks, you seem to be getting more angry that someone else is irritated by a misuse of profile information and intention then I was at the original annoyance.

Women who join dating websites stating they are only looking for friends are just as annoying as men who join facebook, twitter or linked-in looking for dates. If someone messaged you on the RPG here trying to get in your pants you'd tell them that's not what this site is used for, go join a dating site.

Enjoy your casual drug use, hopefully you can chill out, get a clear head and realize the thread you in IS ALL ABOUT bitching, and you're complaining about getting stung but you wont leave the beehive. Feminists, MRAs and all other special interest group tend to be fairly sensitive outside the comfort of their echo chamber.

Dude, I'm not angry, I love messing with this terrible thread (which has been a lot of bitching about women and not a lot of people calling people out on their bull). And you're the one whining about being stung and resorting to condescending jabs. You complained, I was snarky and apologized for it and conceded the point, and then you kept pushing the issue. Also don't try to tell me what I would or wouldn't do in that situation, because that actually did happen and you're wrong, I was nonconfrontational. Most women tend to be. You put that down to cowardice.

Enjoy your casual drug use

I don't want to interfere and accidentally reignite a fight that looks like it's on it's way to the end but I have been one, of probably many members, that have seen and watched you two throw messages back and forth at each other to the point where it did become a bit poisonous and maybe even personal in it's responses. I'm not here to pick sides or say one person was in the wrong, however remember that posting responses on a public forum can be viewed by many people, even those you RP with.

This is partly why I personally do not like this thread as it's taking as aspect of your own life and broadcasting it as a public hissy fit for everyone to see and judge. If you post something up, prepare to be criticised for it; and in this thread that criticism becomes personal.

I hope you two can resolve your differences in times to come as this would be one of the few times I have seen a fight on this forum, and who knows... you two may end up roleplaying together in the future. :)

The Guild isn't meant to be a one-sided or oversensitive echo chamber and we believe its members do a good job of policing itself. However, I'd still like to remind you all that you can always PM a moderator if you think someone is displaying disruptive behavior. Doesn't mean we will immediately agree with you and take action, but I think it's better than having it out with someone in a publicly visible argument.

Carry on.

It was a little jarring seeing two people I quite admire in an argument...
:(
But it's over, huzzah! Now to get back to bitching.
:)

I actually really dislike when someone is not used to the same temperature as you and then you fight over the thermostat oh my god.
And when they lose their shit when you flip it? Yeeeah...

I never thought 'room temperature' would ever be a subjective term, as a child and now as a budding science student.
Ha! Boy was I wrong.

And @Dinh AaronMk Amen.
Being someone who lives in the middle east (which might explain my reptilian preferences and affinity to the heat), it's not...fun.
What I especially hate is the process of visa acquisition. Like, if you're born in certain countries, nobody bats an eye, even if you're awful. But if you're say, Syrian for example, everyone loses their shit.

I have friends who suffer it.
Smh, it makes me so mad.

From an American perspective to it ended a perfectly fine period of relative sanity here in the state and basically brought back fear politics where anyone or everyone is an enemy. And before I was in Highschool we were in two dumb-shit wars.

It's like we crawled out of the Cold War to go back in hot.

I wonder how much of that has to do with the number of politicians and political strategists active now who came into their own during the cold war. Peace, that's difficult to build tactics around, but fear? That is easy. Once 9/11 happened, they had a base to work around.

Hot wars?

Have US troops directly engaged Russian troops in Ukraine?

WW2 or WW1 were hot wars. Going to war with terrorist groups isn't really a hot war anymore than anything that happened during the Cold War.

If anything, the world's still relatively more peaceful than during the cold war even with the tensions that are going on. It's just that the middle east is a massive disaster.

I am convinced that we are going to go through some shit, but i'm not so convinced that it will be the end of the world. There has only ever been one true societal collapse in human history (Bronze Age Collapse. The Dark Ages was the fall of Europe only). There doesn't seem to be any indicator of a coming nuclear war.

But the economic system? Yeh, that's going to evolve quite a bit. We've reached a point that is historically repeated over and over again, where the game is stacked so much in favor of a small number of elites that the economy starts to slow down. And then the elite get thrown out the window and there is a massive surge and golden age within that society. We just have to hope that our rejuvenation doesn't turn violent like so many have in the past.

Edit: Dammit you completely edited your post so now it looks like I am ranting.

The wealth disparity is just so insane. How is anything going to flow if you have wealthy individuals who avoid spending or allow for deficits? Money is supposed to cycle and damming up the flow of money in a consumer economy is just dysfunctional. Consuming is just dangerous.
