Spam help. ;_;

Anyone here have some remedies for getting to sleep quickly?

And I don't really mean long-term. This isn't really a recurring thing - it's just tonight that I can't seem to get to sleep. And I really want some sleep tonight.

So yeah - anyone know anything that'll get me to sleep soon?

Actually, turns out reading political threads in OT full of long, drawn-out responses makes one pretty drowsy rather quickly...

There's an allergy pill specifically for nighttime, which helps you get more drowsy. It's nonaddictive, and it's a small effect (it won't knock you out for you), but it seems to help if you're -trying- to sleep.

Mental work is good. Reading, particularly something that requires thought about the subject (articles/books, not twitter/forums/etc. which has instant feed to keep people awake, and junkfood style writings), does a good job. I've been using Hitchhiker's Guide for that. Doing some form of work helps, too.

Unless the game takes a lot of brain work, avoiding games is a good idea. Same with most television, though a relative of mine often uses things like Star Trek (good shows, but not usually high-action or the like) or Ken Burns (awesome documentaries, but also on a slower pace) on low volume.

Best thing in my experience, though, is "meditating"/relaxing. Avoiding thought about things I still have to do or want to do. Usually by paying attention to the senses more.

Usually, I just close my eyes and kind of go into "manual mode" for dreaming, meaning I just picture whatever comes to mind and just start running images through my head, be it something I'm thinking about that I experienced recently or just doing some creative thinking. The trick for me, anyways, is to get to a point where I'm no longer conscious of my body and I'm pretty much day-dreaming. Thinking of tranquil things, like imagining a walk through the woods or along a beach, usually helps, too. Just let your imagination wander as you take in the scenery and kind of lose yourself in the moment. It might take a long time to get to sleep, but the goal is to get your body to relax and not cling to any serious thoughts. The more you focus, the harder it is to drift off.

Hm... The SCP wiki comes to mind as a good site for tiring reads. All I think I can add for future reference is not to eat anything or move around any more than necessary, although that might be different from person to person. Not that it matters any more, presumably.
