"Well that's good. Glad you're okay." I looked up to see Spencer and the rest of the gang returning. There was a mention of the medical bag, then my name. My eyes widened at the thought of having to go through that again.
"No, no, no. I won't be needing that. I'll be fine." I insisted, lying to myself and everyone around me. "Are any of you hurt?" I asked.
"We're fine. Got a few scrapes and bruised. Fought some guy. Had to kill him with his own knife. Wasn't pretty." Joe was still looking around, walking through our small, temporary rest camp for signs of Jaxlors.
"Relax, Joe." Em chimed in. "We're okay. But you-- You don't look so good." She nodded towards me.

"Sure, you'll be fine. You only have a bullet stuck in your leg." I said raising an eyebrow at her. It was a relief to see everyone walking towards us in one piece. All three of them dumped their bags, apart from Em who grabbed the medical bag and made her way over to us.
"We've stopped the bleeding," I told her, watching her examine the wound. She had a few scratches on her cheek bone but otherwise looked unscathed.
"Yeah, looks good." She said and began rummaging through the bag, pulling out various medical items. "First of all, take these." She held out her palm to Daisy, where she held two small pills. "For the pain." She added.
"Are you trained?" I asked surprised.
Em looked at me and didn't answer.
"Second, I'll take the bullet out and then stitch you back up, it's not a deep wound. I can see the bullet from here." Em said as she lifted the fabric off of Daisy's leg, peering into the wound.

I watched as Em began grabbing various tools and such from the medical bag. I certainly wasn't ready for what was about to happen. I was nervous. I didn't know what to expect. Cold beads of sweat began to form on my face.
"Relax. It'll be over quick." Em assured me.
I grabbed the pills and Spencer handed me a bottle of water. Tossing them into my mouth, I took off the cap and drank three big gulps of water. I hadn't realized how thirsty I was. I wanted to down the whole thing. "So... Are you trained?" I asked, leaning my head back onto the tree. "And how long will these pills take to kick in?"

"Not long," She answered, "and yes, I am trained, thanks for believing in me. More trained than any of you anyway. Our mother is a surgeon, I picked up a lot of stuff of her. Always wanted to be a doctor." She smiled lightly at Daisy as spoke.
"She was at the hospital almost as much as mom was." Joe piped in. "She's as legit as we're going to get right now. Unless you want Nina to do it." He threw a thumb in Nina's direction, who suddenly looked very nervous and shook her head quickly.
I looked back at Emma who was gently cleaning up the blood around the wound on Daisy's thigh. Her brown eyes focused, thinking about what she was going to do. "Do you need any help?" I asked her.
She shook her head without looking at me. "Unless you want to hold Daisy down, then be my guest."
I smiled gingerly at Daisy, here we go again. "Sorry."

I flinched as Em began to clean my leg. I knew she was trying to be gentle but it still hurt like hell. Sighing, I looked up at Sam, then Em.
"It's fine. Don't apologize..." There was a small silence. "Let's just... Let's get this over with. The sooner we're done with my stupid leg, the better." I sat up, getting comfortable and mentally preparing for the removal of the bullet.
"I can't watch this, I'm sorry. I don't like blood and I'm gonna freak out. I might puke. You know, the whole 'shebang.' It's too much for me. I'm sorry. " Nina threw her hands up in the air and walked a few feet away.
"Then you're in for a real treat wherever you walk around here. Daisy sure did a nice job of painting the ground red." Spencer snickered. Em shot him a look and he straightened up. "My bad. I didn't mean- I was just saying that since she got blood everywhere that-"
"Spencer. Shut up, you babbling baboon. You're not making things any better." Em gave him the death stare. Spencer bit his lip and stopped talking almost instantly.
"Sorry." He mumbled as he folded his arms across his chest.

"Okay," Em said and looked from Daisy's leg wound to her troubled face. "Let's do this."
Em looked at me to check I was ready and as soon as I nodded and placed my hands on Daisy's shoulders, she picked up what looked like giant tweezers and leant forwards.
"Oh man, I, uh, I'm gonna go check on Nina..." Spencer spluttered as Em got to work and darted off to Nina. I couldn't see anything but I felt Daisy tense up and I knew she was trying her best to keep still.
Em sighed. "Joe, keep her leg still." A quick glance at Joe showed he wasn't so keen on that idea, but he knelt beside Em and did as she asked. "I'm almost there, Daisy, hold on." Em promised.

"Yeah, I'm holding on." I bit down on my jaw, trying as hard as I could not to make a peep. Everything in me wanted to just scream out in pain. Just the slight pressure Joe was putting on my leg made me wince. I wanted to just pass out and wake up when it was all over. I'd never been shot before and this whole experience made me never want to get shot again. As soon as I felt the giant tweezers dig deeper into my thigh, I started to panic. My heart began racing and my leg began to twitch. I could feel the tweezers digging, trying to grasp the bullet, but the pain just got worse. It was excruciating. I tried to be still, but whatever Em had just done made me cry out in pain. "Stop, it hurts too much!" I shrieked. The process of removing the bullet was worse than actually getting shot.

"Done! I'm done!" Em said as she lifted the tweezers up, showing her the small blood covered bullet pinched between them.
Joe stood up and grimaced at the sight of it. "Well done, Em. Mom would be proud." He said giving her an encouraging smile. Em tucked her head down shyly but I could see her cheeks reddening as she rummaged around in the medical bag.
"Right, unfortunately, it's not quite over yet. I've still got to stitch you up. Won't take long, promise. Mom always said I was a natural so it shouldn't hurt too much." Em smiled at Daisy before pulling out the necessary equipment to do the job.

I took a deep, shaking breath and wiped a few stray tears from my face. I didn't even know I'd started crying. I felt a little light headed and ran my hands down the sides of my face. "Thanks, Em." I managed out. I knew the stitching wouldn't hurt as much, but I still wasn't looking forward to it. I reached in my pocket and pulled out my inhaler, pressing the button and inhaling. I felt I'd be using this thing for the rest of the day.
"You all finished?" Nina called from afar. Em waved her off before telling her she was almost done.
"Let's get this over with." I said between shaky breaths. I was so tired. I'd lost a lot of blood and it was beginning to weigh on me. All I wanted to do now was take a nap.

"Not long now." I said to Daisy, seeing how exhausted she looked.
A few minutes later, Em sat back and admired her handy work. "Looks just like new." She smiled at Daisy. "You can relax now, those pain killers should have kicked in, numb it all up for you."
"Hey, Spence," Joe called out, grabbing Spencer's attention, "grab Daisy some water, it's over there in the grey bag."
I watched as Spencer followed Joe's instruction before squeezing Daisy's shoulders gently. "Are you okay? You did well with that, if it was me I'd be crying like a baby by now."

"I'm okay." I said quietly. "Just tired. I'm really, really tiiiired. But I'm fineee." I gave Sam a small smile through my slurred words. Just a few seconds later Spencer was kneeling down in front of me. He handed me a bottled water and eyed my leg. I could tell he was trying not to stare at it but he wasn't doing a very good job of trying not to be obvious.
"You okay?" Spencer asked. He had a look of uncertainty on his face as he watched me take the cap from the bottle and gulp the water down. He wasn't really sure what to say or how to act.
"I'm alright." I nodded and thanked him for the water. I tried to speak less, knowing that I'd drag some of my words out. Spencer was quiet, giving me a very small smile before joining back up with Nina a few feet away."What's next?" That pain medicine was no joke. I was definitely starting to feel the effects of it.

"Rest, Daisy. Definitely rest. Don't you worry your pretty little head about anything but having a decent snooze, get your energy back, I'm sure you'll be wanting it soon enough." Em patted Daisy's knee gently and then stood up, moving away to give Daisy some space.
I sat back on my heels and tried not to look concerned. Yes, Daisy would be fine now, but this wouldn't help our case of trying to get out of here. We weren't going to be able to move quickly or efficiently with Daisy injured like this. Hopefully the camp we'd left behind not so long ago could forget all about us... just for a while.
"Listen to Emma, she seems to know what she's doing." I smiled and gave Daisy a quick shrug before standing up. "Need anything else?"

"No, I don't need anythiiiing." I paused, scooting a few feet away from where I'd been sitting. I didn't want to take a nap in my own blood. "Thanks." I managed out. I carefully adjusted myself on my good side, and lay on the ground. I was still so dizzy. I was beginning to feel a little nauseous and closed my eyes. I could hear bits and pieces of chatter from The Siblings. Mostly of what they were going to do next and how to travel with me being hurt. It didn't take long for me to block them out and drift off into a well needed sleep. Before I knew it, I was out like a light.

I could hear myself groaning as a sharp ache went through my leg. I had no clue how long I'd been asleep, but I was waking up in pain. I'd managed to roll over on my shot leg while I was out. Bad idea. Terrible, horrible, bad idea. I rolled over as softly as I could onto my good leg and opened my eyes. Everything was a little blurry, but my vision slowly returned to normal. It was still light outside and it was awfully quiet. I didn't look around much, but from what I could see was the same scenery as before, minus the Siblings and Sam. I figured they were around or probably behind me and out of my line of vision.
I placed two hands on the ground and pushed myself up as best as I could, letting out moans and groans of pain on my way up. I was so famished. I wanted something to eat or drink. I felt weak. A lot better than how I felt earlier, but still weak.

Daisy had been asleep for almost thirteen hours. I was getting antsy as I paced around our makeshift camp, keeping an eye out. We had been in the same place for too long, in a place far too close to the camp for my liking. I didn't know much about this escaping base business, but I knew the best thing to do was to keep moving and get as far as possible from them in a hurry.
It had just turned eight o'clock and I glanced back at the others who were spread out over the ground asleep. No one slept well last night, we were all too tense, a part from Daisy of course, in some ways, she was lucky.
The morning light was refreshing after the dark night, every bush that brushed against another made us all freeze and one of us would have to reassure each other that it was just the wind. Now, in the light, I felt braver than before, a gun on my hip, actually able to see what was out there.
I walked around the camp, coming around to where Daisy was, shadowed under the dense trees where we had left her last night. We each made multiple checks on her, making sure she was okay throughout the night. We could see her from where we slept, but it made us feel better to go up and see if she was still breathing.
"You're awake?" I said, slightly shocked as I saw her struggle to pull herself up. "I thought you'd maybe sleep for a bit longer. It's still quite early, the others are asleep."
I moved over to her and reached out to hold her shoulder gently, steadying her. "How are you feeling, do you need a hand?"

I jumped, startled at the sound of Sam's voice as he spoke. I had no idea anyone was around.
"You scared me." I croaked. "I-" I held up a hand as a gesture for him to give me a second to collect my thoughts. I felt dazed and confused, unable to grasp even the slightest bit of what was happening, as the throbbing of my leg infiltrated my mind. It was hard to concentrate on one thing. I was scatter brained, trying to focus my attention on Sam and forget about my pain. I cleared my throat and gathered my words.
"I'm alright. I mean, to be honest I feel like I've been hit by a truck. But I'm alright." I stood still, frozen in an uncomfortable position of half standing up straight and slouching, trying my best to keep pressure off of my leg. I was exhausted, hurting, and extremely thirsty.
"What did you mean by it being early? How long was I asleep?" I asked as I carefully slunk back down into a sitting position. I didn't quite have the energy to hold myself up yet. I was still so tired, but I didn't want to go back to sleep.
Bits and pieces of the days previous events were all coming back to me. The feeling of my bandages being changed throughout the day as I slept, quiet chattering of what our next move was, then darkness. The rest was a dark, dreamless sleep.

"It's eight a.m. You slept for thirteen hours. Why don't you just sit there for a bit, I'll grab some water for you." I told her before turning away, heading off to find a backpack that held some of the food and water in it.
Opening up the one closest to Joe, I pulled out a bottle and a small bread bun, not knowing if she was hungry yet or not. She would need something to get her energy levels up anyway.
"Here." I said as I arrived back, handing her the drink bottle first.

"Thank you." I said as Sam handed me a bottled water. I unscrewed the cap and began gulping down, drinking more than half of the water inside before taking a breath and sitting the bottle down beside me. "I really appreciate it." I gave him a small smile.
"Why are you up so early?" I asked, curiously. "I'd probably still be asleep if I were you."

I sat myself down next to her, resting my elbows on my knees.
"I'm on watch, and I couldn't sleep anyway. Every sound out there makes me nervous." I admitted my eyes on the tree line as I spoke. With a soft sigh, I sent Daisy a small smile before holding out the bread bun I'd grabbed for her. "Here, take this. I figured you might be hungry."

"I didn't hear a thing while I was out. I can only imagine how freaky it was hearing the creaks and squeaks of nature." I broke a small piece of bread from the bun Sam gave me and popped it into my mouth. I could only eat a few pieces before it began to bother me. I was starving, but the more I ate, the worse I felt.
"I'm sorry, I can't eat anymore." I sat the remainder of the bun down in my lap and took a deep breath. "Makes me feel a bit sick."

I nodded. "Take your time. No one is expecting you to be better straight away. You'll get there soon enough." I told her, secretly hoping she would feel great and ready to go in no time. I knew, of course, that that wouldn't happen. She had been shot, it wasn't a headache a bit of fresh air might fix, she had a literal hole in her leg.
"At least, we're covered here, the dense tree makes us pretty unseeable." Looking out at the lush green bush and tree that surrounded us, I hoped quietly that it wasn't covering somebody else from our view.
