flaming arrows murderize horses. It is known.

Talking Attila though. Phracts were kings in Rome. In Attila, nothing rewards good micro better than a Hun skirmishing army with a few Lancers playing cleanup.

to be fair RTW was way better than RTW2, up until like the last DLC when they finally fixed everything. Everything but the squalor -- my god, so much squalor.

Idunno if fire arrows were anti-cav in Rome 1, mainly because I mostly played the Europa Barbarosa mod and that changed like every mechanic in the game right down to the map. EB went all the way to India and they brought in Timurids, which was basically the full Attila experience like a decade before Attila happened.

That must be a hella extended timeline for a game set in the days of Rome to incorporate Timurlane.

I need to buy and try the original Rome Total War.

In RTW2 I amuse myself by getting mods to let myself play the normally unplayable minor factions. Leading an Aethiopian army to sweep across Egypt and the Seleucids is so fun.

EB is giant, and Tamerlane doesn't show up until like 300+ turns into it, which is a nice touch.

The original Rome is still probably the most well balanced of all of them, but I'd imagine it's showing its age now. Attila is pretty sweet to; so far it's probably my favorite, considering i'm gonna be a little biased to the new and the shiny, and Attila is pretty well designed too.

plus only Attila lets you literally destroy the entire world, so there's that.

It's so satisfying to get to literally burn Rome to the ground.

The one thing that sucks about playing the Huns though, is that the armies of every enemy you make will chase you across the map. I once made the mistake of declaring war on the Sassanids, and they kept five stacks on my tail all the way across Russia.

The only mistake in that story is that you allowed them to follow you, rather than crushing them into dust.
