It is 4E 210, around seven years since the Dragonborn sacrificed himself to defeat the world eater, Alduin. In the time since, The Stormcloak Rebellion has been quelled by Imperial forces, and for the first time in a while, Tamriel seems to be relatively peaceful. However, many forsee that tranquility will not last in the continent as tensions between the Imperial Legion and the Aldmeri Dominion have intensified. It seems like war is years, if not months away.
The Legion, fearing the Aldmeri's conquest, have desperately rallied armies and tightened security within their frontiers. Fear is widespread in the Legion's boundaries, many have fled from cities in to the countryside in hopes of avoiding conflict, others have joined together to form militias. It seems that everyone knows that war is coming, and preparations are being made by anyone, be they peasant, soldier or royal.
Most potential threats to the Emperor have been silenced or imprisoned. You are a one of these potential threats, a convict who has been accused of working with the Aldmeri Dominion, which you most likely have not done. Whilst you sit on the back of a cart, wheeled towards your demise, you hope that fate will intervene and you will be given another chance. When your cart is intercepted by Aldmeri scouts, your wish is fulfilled - they try to kill you, but you escape.
So now you find yourself in Talos-knows-where in the middle of Tamriel with a group of strangers. You have been wronged by both the Legion and the Aldmeri. Without any true allies, you find that the people who escaped with you may well be important if you wish to survive.
Our characters are a bunch of prisoners who have been accused of working with the Aldmeri Dominion. Whether this is true or not is up to you, but, the majority of the characters will have been unfairly accused. Whilst our characters are taken towards an Imperial encampement, ready to be slaughtered, the cart we are on is intercepted by Aldmeri scouts. The guards around us are killed, and the Aldmeri begin to kill the prisoners. Some escape, others are not so lucky. Those that escape are now enemies of both the Imperials and the Aldmeri, meaning they must work together to survive.
