This sounds like a really good idea. I'm totally on board. This also means it won't be all up to you to keep the story rolling and if someone goes AWOL we can simply start another. That last part I'd prefer would never happen though but speaking from experience it might. =(

If someone not vital to the story disappears then we can have them killed off or whatever we need to have happen. We'd only have to start a new adventure if it's voted as the common interest. Vital people leaving could be taken over by other players.

Next step I would think would be a character form.

I figure ImportantNobody should retain approval rights so we don't end up with a vampiric werewolf archmage who studied martial arts with Ho Lee Badass himself before discovering the secrets of Lichdom.

Game masters can approve the types of characters into their game. Some adventures might have fun times with a roving band of squirrel demons, for example, while others would not include them.

So this will basically be "sandbox" style, without a defined plot for the overarching theme? Sounds fun.

Will there be actual dice rolls or is this more 'group storytelling'?

From what I understand this will be more the latter, group storytelling with no specific stats and no rolls. That doesn't mean we have nondescript characters. You'll still have the guardian, the mage, the strategist, whatever.

@Necrophage-

Got it. So it's not following a specific rules set or edition, so characters can be... I hate to say generic, but rather- not limited to a typical label; like Cleric or Rogue?

I like your terms; Guardian, Strategist

You can be more varied of character rather than limited to the capabilities of a certain class as long as it makes sense why they'd have their skill set and not be overpowered by being great at everything. Due to not being great at everything, people naturally fall into specializations in time to become a more efficient team rather than everyone shooting arrows and then some fumbling for their shields to become the wall, while others try to start using magic that they only learn part time to allow for other skills, etc. People who try to do every job equally would likely do bad at every job.

The gm can roll if they can't decide the outcome or want to leave an element of chance/surprise to keep things interesting, given that our written descriptions of our actions doesn't guarantee a certain outcome. The gm might think, "well what if the dragon does happen to arouse from his slumber while he's out there?" It's up to the gm's discretion. There's no stats to add to dice rolls, but rather just probability of possible outcomes based on logic from our written descriptions.

I like it better that way for many reasons. One provides more room for creative and reasonable thinking. I enjoy it the most because I get to play out every action rather than just watch as an action takes place. If my written action is reasonably overcome by the enemy then it becomes more of a loss to my character. Everything is just more personable and fun. =)

I will do my best to get the OOC out this weekend. I shall be the first gm and come up with a good introductory story to ease us into things and see who is willing to stay for a while rather then start a harrowing adventure fighting dragons and have someone drop out and cause us to be brutally devoured. So basically, a story that will make the most sense why people might disappear at a moment's notice without tanking the party.

That's one reason I like the GURPS ruleset. A Mage can use a sword and shield, a Rogue can cast spells, basically anyone can do anything and improve it just by putting points into the skills.

I am interested, especially if worldbuilding is involved.

Edit:

Never mind. Being a game master is not something I want to undertake.

You never have to be a game master.

In that case, I will not mind worldbuilding and going on quests and stuff.

It's only been five days since this was first posted and I'm getting the OOC made up now. I see your status of "no fun allowed" is in working order. XD

I have it around 80% done. I will post it in a couple of hours at the latest unless I hit a mental road block.

EDIT: Here's the OOC.
