I heard this song awhile ago and liked it. Then I saw that the show Two Broke Girls started using it as their theme song.
My interactions with network television are special to begin with. I'm one of those people who doesn't watch it on purpose. My family does, and I sometimes catch it in passing. I understand that there are a lot of people exactly like me in that regard. But it's still an interesting take.
So it was interesting to see a bit of my world show up through the window. Having that internal debate on whether or not you like seeing one of "your things" being adapted to a general audience is also interesting.
Furthermore, I stopped listening to the song for a long time. No particular reason why that I can think of.
So when it came up on the radio app I was using, I felt something strange.
The song became nothing to me. It became a simple tune in the vast ocean of sound effects produced from the television. Albeit one that was noticeable and floating more towards the surface.
When the lyrics kicked in, I got excited. I wasn't just remembering that I liked the song. I was also marveling at how a song I liked became something else. I didn't forget it, I just miscategorized it. All the while I feeling pleasant nostalgia for the song itself.
