Placed in hibernation chambers for the first two years and expecting to sleep for another two years you'd have only worked three years launching, repairing and retrieving probe ships. It was a dream job that was not only financially rewarding but would have written your names in the record books right up there with Gagarin, Armstrong and Frye but something went horribly wrong.
The Ship was named the Argo after some mythic ship out of antiquity and she was nearly 500 meters long and meant to carry only 12 people. Her drive system was what most people called an Ion drive and the only reason this mission and future missions were possible.
You were chosen because you were young, intelligent, healthy and compatible with your crew mates. Each member of the Argo was cross trained in each other's specialty which made you the cream of humanity's space program and a valuable person.
"Prepared and trained, selected and inspected" is how your captain saw you all and she had the greatest hopes for you all.
That's how you remembered it till you awoke from hibernation and found out that only you had survived.
You were alone in a ship that had to continue on it's preprogrammed flight path because the ship depended on gravity maneuvers around the planets to have enough fuel to complete it's journey.
Earth was 4.5 hours away presently but in 2 months would be 6.2 hours away by way of radio communication and all they could do was wish you luck and provide tech support.
Okay That's enough babble here's the mechanicals
This is a Robin Crusoe twist were you are the Castaway and your girl Friday is an Android.
The Android was assigned to the Argo as the pilot/mechanic who kept watch as you slept. Intended as not being needed when the crew is awake the Droid was not a piece of equipment your character was familiar with though had worked with in cross training except that the one you find isn't the same one you trained on.
The new Droid is confirmed as a last minute replacement for the previously intended model and where the old android had all the sex appeal of C-3PO this one looks like she was made for lonely miners in the belt.
Her ID is Delta -779 and she's got a more powerful cpu than the ship or 100 of the previous model Droid.
