The world lives and breathes on martial arts and combat fighting. Cultural influence, stardom, even political disputes were created and made in legendary fights. While their are many competitions, some less legal than others. One legendary event has always been The King of Fighters. A three on three competition that has featured only the elite of the elite in a worldwide traveling competition. Though the event has seen more than its fair share of not only controversy but even attacks by borderline supernatural forces. The event though in recent years has been successful and without much in terms of dangerous activities.

This year’s event however began to develop in unique ways. Firstly the main sponsor of the previous years’ event backed out under mysterious circumstances. The new main sponsor remaining unknown with rumors swirling from mult-billionaires to some new enterprise. As the letters containing the official invitation began to be sent out, with their signature red wax seal. The biggest surprises were soon to arrive. The letters were sent out not just to King of Fighters regulars, but to many other fighters as well. To fighters like Chun-Li, Ken Masters, Sagat, Dhalsim, and Ryu.

You have been cordially invited to compete in this year’s King of Fighters tournament. While the rules for the most part have remained the same. We have extended the invitation to many more competitors this year. Many of which who have never had the honor of competiting in this event. To that end we are announcing a randomized draft for teams lacking a member, or individuals lacking a team. People will be assigned either to fill a team’s spot or put together to form a team.

Best of luck to all those entered.
~K

(The crux of the RP is in a mix hopefully of canon characters from both the King of Fighters world and the Street Fighter world. Canon, legacy (son/daughter of established characters), and OCs are all accepted. If you can't assemble your team through the OOC and sign ups. Your character will be either put with two other random characters or into a team missing a member. The RP itself is story driven and outside of sparring or fights away from the tournament RPer vs RPer fights will be saved for later on in the RP.)

~~~~
Full name: Rock Howard
Team: Team Garou
Discipline: A mix of different martial arts taught to him by legendary fighter Terry Bogard. A combination boxing, karate, kickboxing, kung fu, and street fighting. Along with some training in the chi technique of Hakkyokuseiken. He also instinctively uses Kobujutsu moves derived from his father, Geese Howard.
Age: 20
Home: South Town, USA
Appearance:
Brief bio: Rock was the bastard child of Geese Howard and a woman who was his secretary at the time of his conception. Rock never knew his father as he never his father, who was a savage businessman with ties to many illegal operations. Rock always had dreams and ideas in his own head of what Geese was like. However the truth reared its very ugly head when Rock's mother contracted a rare disease and Rock found a way to get to Geese. Where meeting his father for the first time Rock begged and pleaded for help. Rock however finally first hand witness his father's cruel nature as he was not only dismissed even after being told such a thing. He took it all more as an annoyance than anything serious. From that day forth Rock never wanted to acknowledge his father again.
As Rock was put into a foster home following the death of his mother. Rock first saw a man named Terry Bogard when he saw the fighter get ganged up on by multiple people before taking all of them down with ease. Terry and Rock spoke for a bit afterwards. Rock learning about how Terry's father was killed at the hands of Geese, and he had returned to South Town after years away for payback alongside his younger brother Andy. It all culminated from the top of Geese's private tower, where after a fight Terry tried to help save Geese from falling to his death. Only for Geese to purposely let go, falling countless stories to his death.
A strange feeling of loneliness and relief overwhelmed Rock as soon after Terry adopted Rock. Getting an apartment time was split with the two either living and working odd jobs around town, and traveling the world for new fights and challenges. During this and meeting Kim Kaphwan, a long time friendly rival of Terry's, that Rock met Kim's two kids, Kim Jae Hoon and Kim Dong Hwan. The both of whom Rock became good friends with. These days Rock still lives with Terry, having recently unearthed information about his father's obituary that could cause him, and especially Terry, a lot of problems.
Full name: Kim Jae Hoon
Team: Team Garou
Discipline: Tae Kwon Do
Age: 20
Home: South Korea
Appearance:
Brief bio: Jae Hoon's father is simply one of, if not the biggest icon in South Korea. Kim Kaphwan, ambassador of the tae kwon do disciple, and a hero against all of evil. Known just as much for disciplining villainous characters to be on the side of good. Kim Kaphwan's hatred of evil was one of his biggest driving forces.
Kim Jae Hoon grew up well aware of the legacy his father had in his homeland. As he grew up though, Jae Hoon showed a drive in learning from his father that Kaphwan had only seen in himself. In fact it could be said that Jae Hoon shares a lot of his father's traits. A powerful sense of good and evil, disciplined, and surprisingly charismatic. In fact his growing skills and nature with the people of his homeland have earned him his own notably sized fan club with young girls filling the ranks.
Things aren't completely perfect though, while Jae Hoon has shown a lot of qualities his father has looked for. Jae Hoon's brother Dong Hwan seemed almost a complete opposite. Cocky, and can even be considered lazy. Dong Hwan is still just as capable in tae kwon do as his brother though, and Jae Hoon still loves him all the same. However before the KOF tournament was to start, Dong Hwan was trying to impress a group of girls with his skills. Even though Jae Hoon warned him to stretch first, Dong Hwan ignored his advice. Only to end up pulling a muscle in his inner thigh that has left him unable to fight.
Interested but uh
While OCs are accepted, they will be judged more critically than canon characters.
What exactly do you mean by this? And wouldn't existing characters require criticism so they don't step outside their given personalities and boundaries? Also, I feel as though the CS should probably make players detail what special moves their characters have and what they entail, and possibly actually describe the fighting style a bit, no? Considering just how important to the game that stuff will be and all. You should also consider tagging the people that were interested in a Street Fighter game from the other thread to draw their attention.
Basically while I'm cool with OCS I would prefer Canon so for an oc to be accept they have to be good in terms of quality and care in the character sheet and concept.
I wrote all that in a tired haze last night so my bad if it wasn't clear.
Edit: Also, legacy characters are acceptable but will be judged just like OCs.
@DrewVonAwesome I'll give it a try, but I have no knowledge of either series, so I likely won't play a Canon character.
Been shuffling gimmicks in my head, deciding whether I'd want an original character or not. I think I'll have something up today. As an aside, maybe making it sound like you'll be harsher on people trying to play original characters might be an issue? IDK, sometimes you know just enough about the games to want to try and have fun with the setting, but not enough to play a character and imitate their fighting style and whatnot. You saying you'd prefer canon to OCs might drive players away.
@DrewVonAwesome This is why I am worried, personally. I know enough about fighting games in general to make am OC for this, but I know practically nothing about the games, so it is out of the question for me to play a canon character.
Full name: The Great Dragon (formerly The Red Dragon, real name unknown)
Age: 39
Hometown: Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan
Team: TBD/ "Pro Wrestling Love" (name subject to change)
Character theme: If you know The Great Muta, you know what this is.
Appearance:
Standing at six feet sharp and weighing in at 220 pounds, The Great Dragon has changed quite a bit since he first made an impact in the pro wrestling world as The Red Dragon several years ago.
Discipline: Strong Style pro wrestling
The Great Dragon eschews the high flying lucha libre style typically associated with comparatively smaller wrestlers and instead employs a very grounded approach based upon his training in chinese martial arts and submission grappling. He used to be much flashier in his early years, greatly favoring high-impact jumping, spinning and dashing attacks which he can still engage in, but he has toned it down with age and it’s helped preserve his body and extend his career.
Brief bio:
One of the elder statesmen of the pro wrestling world, a multiple time SWF world and tag team champion who has kept an international following since his early 20s, when he wrestled as the arrogant, bizarre foreign heel known as The Red Dragon. Known for his unique, kung fu inspired Strong Style of wrestling and his ability to reinvent himself and retain a strong work rate and his health even as he nears 40 in a business known for being extremely harsh on the body.
Not all is well for The Great Dragon, however. The world lives and breathes martial arts, but pro wrestling is suffering from a period of drought. More and more people move away from it, decrying it as fake, and potential talent is taken away to participate in other disciplines. Worse than that, the people in charge of major leagues like the SWF and CWA have mismanaged the previously powerful companies into their worst period in years and the livelihood of many is at risk.
Aside from a few figures, pro wrestlers are fast losing credibility as they attempt to enter fighting tournaments unprepared and suffer embarrassing defeats, further killing the credibility of the sport. This cannot stand. And so The Great Dragon issues both a public challenge and an open invitation: He will enter the next King of Fighters tournament alone and invites any two pro wrestlers from across the world to prove they can fight and join him in his journey.
They will prove the strength of pro wrestling to the world, and woe of anyone who invokes the wrath of the Dragon.
Notes:
The Red Dragon was part of an honestly not very good wrestling game by SNK called Fire Suplex in Japan and the nowhere near as cool 3 Count Bout elsewhere. He is a shameless ripoff of The Great Muta, one of the greatest stars japanese pro wrestling has ever produced, with an added martial arts gimmick. So, for funsies, I decided to take Red Dragon and further parallel his career to Muta's.
That's an older Muta for the picture and I mirrored how Muta slowed down and stopped employing high impact acrobating moves while still managing to reinvent himself and remain one of the most popular workers in Japan and possibly the world well into his 40s. The SWF is the pro wrestling company in Fire Suplex, while the CWA is the one in Capcom's Saturday Night Slam Masters.
Full name: Tizoc, a.k.a. Griffon Mask. His real name is unknown.
Team: TBD
Entrance Theme: Because every wrestler needs one.
Discipline: Tizoc is a practitioner of Lucha Libre, in other words, a Luchador. In regards to the two archetypes of the style, Tizoc is a Técnicos through and through, specializing in elaborate and high-flying manoeuvres that are as entertaining as they are effective.
Age: 27, born on the 25th of April.
Home: Mexico. His exact place of birth is (once again) unknown.
Appearance:
Tizoc stands at a towering 215 cm/7'1'', and weighs in at 118 kg/260 lbs.
Brief bio: Tizoc's past is an enigma. The masked man made his debut in Lucha Libre some years prior, and has yet to reveal any details regarding his history. No one -save for his similarly elusive family- has so much as seen his face. Even the man's name has yet to be discovered.
Some men claim that he never had a childhood, and simply sprang from the womb fully-formed and costumed. Others, children in particular, regard him as a guardian spirit, sent from above to combat injustice wherever it may lurk. Whatever the case, they can all agree that Tizoc is a paragon of the sport, and that he is the hero of countless children across the length and breadth of Mexico.
However, Tizoc's legend is not without hardship. Once regarded as unbeatable, the griffon-masked hero was thoroughly trounced on one fateful day by a mysterious stranger. Refusing to accept this, Tizoc embarked on a quest to seek out this man and win back his honour in a rematch.
After nearly two years of searching, Tizoc became disheartened, and very nearly abandoned his career altogether. Thankfully, fortune turned in his favour, as he received an invitation to the latest King of Fighters tournament. This event served to remind Tizoc of what he had forgotten in his pursuit: his duty to the world's children. How could he call himself a man, let alone a luchador, for failing to uphold his true duty?
With that, the embers of Tizoc's spirit were rekindled into a blazing inferno of passion, and he returned to Mexico at once. Before throngs of cheering fans, Tizoc declared both his return and his intent to win the tournament. Not for mere money, but for the sake of the children's smiles.
Note: Tizoc's history is taken from the Fatal Fury timeline (with a few adjustments), as we seem to be using that one in this RP (based off of Rock Howard's bio).
So basically either Tizoc can join Rock and Jae Hoon, or join Great Dragon... interesting...
Also as an aside I was genuinely surprised they didn't put Tizoc into the Mexico team for KOF XIV. King of Dinosaurs looks cool though.
Anyways both are accepted, and I was pleasantly surprised you actually used 3 Count Bout for inspiration @Zero Hex. Bonus points for that as I remember really enjoying that game when I was little. Probably aged like crap though. As for you @Moonman, I'll let you decide who Tizoc teams with. Since story line wise there's breathing room for Rock and Jae Hoon to maybe seek him out to join. Due to Dong Hwan pulling his groin and all... tehe.
Also if someone DOES want to bring in Dong Hwan I don't mind editing that out and changing things up.
Full name: Skullomania
Team: TBD
Discipline: Skullomania's fighting style is entirely self-taught, based largely on Japanese children's shows. Because of this, his erratic movements make him hard to predict.
Age: 37
Hometown: Osaka, Japan
Appearance: "Even if there's no god or buddha, you can believe in justice."
Brief bio: Skullomania was once an average salesman called Saburo Nishikoyama. His superiors were not pleased with his results as a salesman. Down on his luck and constantly under pressure for results, he volunteered to dress up and perform like a superhero at a carnival thrown for a top customer in their department store. He had hoped it would be chance to prove his value as a salesman. When he grabbed the attention of all in attendance, something clicked in him. Tired of his thankless job, Skullomania decided to become a vigilante crime-fighter. Not much else is known of his past.
What is known is that he became a scourge for organized crime, appearing from the shadows and posing dramatically before striking out. He had a mixed record at best, but managed to become enough of a nuisance that Shadaloo sent Balrog to deal with him in the streets of Osaka. Horrified onlookers watched as a weirdo in a skull-themed outfit was beaten to near death by a wanted man. However broken and beaten he was, though, Skullomania wouldn't stay down. He began spouting off about how, "Until the flame of life is extinguished... I will always stand against evil!" It was shortly after this that Skullomania first manifested his ki, honed through a desire for justice... and chakra alignments brought on by his frequent "heroic poses." It was this sudden development that allowed him to overcome Balrog using his newly invented Skullo Slider, dodging under Balrog's punches and surviving the night. However, with all those bystanders, it shouldn't be surprising the fight got caught on a few cell phone videos.
This was the tipping point for Skullomania. Sure, he was just some weirdo salaryman in a costume, but he was a weirdo salaryman in a costume with heart. People around Osaka saw him cleaning garbage, guarding crosswalks, helping old ladies with heavy loads, even climbing a stopped ferris wheel to rescue trapped families. Fans started a small webpage for him, documenting his exploits in crime-fighting and community service as best the members could... and selling modestly-priced T-shirts. It was through this documentation (and the rather impressive comeback against Balrog) that Skullomania got his invitation. Now he seeks to test his newfound power of ki in an actual, proper tournament- and, more importantly, prevent any evildoers from going home with the title.
Other: A Street Fighter EX character for a change. He's not exactly a big name, but he was one of my favorite characters.
