Got a lot of questions here for you. First run on this site, so bear with me.

If Ogden reached the technological level of the modern day, what could remain beyond the limits of Eden?

Is it possible for mechanical devices (specifically a vehicle, such as a tank) to remain intact if not exactly functional and if so, is it at all possible or acceptable in the OOC terms for them to be restored to function?

Can runes be inscribed into metal and used as a type of armor (to protect a vehicle against elemental assault for example) or as a weapon?

Could what remains of the Old World be feasibly repaired?

Assuming that the second question's answer is 'yes' (in some fashion), would it be appropriate or acceptable to run a character who has, to some degree, learned to restore old technology and managed to get a vehicle (Okay. Let's be honest. A tank.) running in some limited capacity? I'm not talking 100% battle-ready, rearing-to-go. But to a point where it could be considered 'working', or at least mobile.

The character I would like to run, assuming you find it agreeable, is someone living out in the Wasteland who has no mind nor power for magic whatsoever, and instead relies on the more conventional, physical forces to accomplish a given task, using machinery instead of supernatural power. Without the ability to call upon magic he or she will have had to deal with threats and hardships by learning about and repairing or modifying the tools of the Old World to weather hardships or survive threats. This character- (the 'Engineer' since I lack a proper name for them at present) will, in all likelihood, inhabit the ruins of the Old World, or as near a thing as they can find.

I don't know whether this Engineer would operate on their own or in a group or settlement... that much can be determined later. I want to see what you folks think of this idea and, moreover, if it's feasible to you, before I start to delve deeper.

The Old World did reach a level of modern technology. What remains in the wasteland is mostly scrap, but can be put together to be useful.

That being said, there are vehicles in the wasteland, but they're basically a hodgepodge of other vehicles. Kinda of like death traps. In the sense of a actual tank, I think that might be a bit over doing it, but a heavily modified car would work fine (Think Mad Max)! Though these cares are very rare. The most stable mode of transportation are animals, and the Eden Trains to the gardens. Tanks and other military level vehicles would of belong to Eden, so they would go to great lengths to recover the scraps to get it working again.

Metal is a good conduit for ruins, but you need to be an enchanter to activate it. Enchanters have a certain external energy that helps trigger the rune's magical potential. The spoken bit of it simply instructs the rune what to do.

Eden is also all about restoring and preserving the old world.

For an Engineering character, it's absolutely possible! Scraping together what they can in the Wastelands to survive. Using and modifying old world technology would be a really fun character to have! Kind of like a junk rat.

Tanks would be rare. Actual functioning tanks even rarer. Functioning tanks not owned by a powerful organization, like bloodhounds or Miraculum, unheard of.

Runes can be scribes into metal, but would need an enchanter to activate. They aren't "passive".

Also I'm at work so sorry about the short reply. Can go more in-depth when I get home tonight. :)

I'm not talking about a tank that runs and functions as-is without any helping, nor a tank that can perform in it's original capacity.

More along the lines of a chassis- a framework, perhaps.

But failing that, I hadn't realized Eden was fond of restoring old tech. If that's the case then perhaps this character could be somehow integrated in there, given a common interest?

I'll admit this plainly; I'm straining for a tank here, (because why the hell not?) so however I can reach that goal is fine by me. What should I look into?

Well. Lemme think on this a bit at work. I'm sure we can maybe think of some division or whatever that would use a tank, out of Eden.

Thanks. The Bloodhounds sound like they might use it... I don't know.

No worries about timing. I'm not in a rush. And if this ends up just being too much to ask then I have another concept I can bring forward that doesn't involve tanks or stretching the story a bit. It'd be much simpler overall, involving a Fire Conduit instead- if that's permissible of course.

I can pull either. Just let me know which I should start gearing towards.

The issue I'm running into is that it would be a tactical group sort of thing. Sending a tank out with one person is an invitation to lose it to the Miraculum or even just a large group of bandits. So it isn't really feasible outside of a large group expedition.

Makes sense. Could be multiple characters from different folks, but I understand the limitation. I guess it can just be shelved for now and then if an opportunity appears later, could be used then, maybe?

I won't make a big deal of it. I'll work on the fire conduit in that case... thanks for your time. I'll make another post when I have something worth working on.

Well it would work if you were interested in the responsibility of a small army. Miraculum or possibly Bloodhounds, if there was a big target to hunt down.

I could manage a small army... Provided that I have someone to bounce off of for character interactions and all, and resources for things I need to know about it.

Depending on what sort of group you'd want to be with -- Miraculum, a large gang of bandits, etc -- if you can find someone to roll with you in that group, I don't think Lyrax and I have an issue helping you with info/resources you might need for the history of them.

Think we goan start a post order here now, since we got some players. Me, Lyrax, Jak, then Maiitsoh. New folks don't need to wait for the end of the post order for introduction stuff, but you'll be adjusted in accordingly. Just so no one gets left out or skipped. :D

Well, if nondescript bandits are in, why not a settlement in the bones of the Old World? I could draw something up for that without being too sketchy about it. A city of survivors- Or bandits, depending on your perspective. I figure they could swing to either side of the spectrum.

That being said, the more 'established' powers are the Bloodhounds, the Miraculum, and as-yet unnamed groups of bandits or other large gatherings of people, right? I just want to be clear on my options. As a side note...

For post order, you mean in the IC section, correct?

Also; are different locales to be divided into different chat tabs, or will it all be in one section?

It's definitely possible. It's just not as easy for stationary settlements of any great size to prosper. The threat of mutant elemental conduits ravaging the area is a bigger threat to "permanent" fixtures as opposed to temporary outposts or roving bandits. They also would be the target of such thieves and violence. If you can make it work that's fine! Write something up and we'll see how it fits into the setting. Just the ruthless and cruel tend to rule the wastelands due to... their ruthless and cruel natures; they'll murder and step on anyone to take what they want with violence.

But yeah. The Bloodhounds from Eden are established. They have their own headquarters where they send out small groups or singular agents (with a scribe) from, and the Miraculum are complete fanatics who both rove the Wastelands, and have undercover agents "supposedly" infesting Eden and the Garden cities. They're complete fanatics, but they have numbers, and spread out.

Yes, post is IC ofc. No need to have an OOC post order. :3

Uh... I don't think you can make your own tabs? I'm kind of new here too, honestly. The tabs we have now, OOC, IC and Characters automatically spawned with the board.

Here let me make a clarification.

I have no issues with the tank, if we can make it reasonable.
The issues I'm encountering is that, no matter WHERE the tank is from... a 'goodly' survivor stronghold, Eden, whatever.
The MOMENT that it comes down to just the tank and its driver on their own out there, it's a HUGE target... for every sizeable group of outlaws and the Miraculum. Anyone who thinks they have the numbers to take it will want it; something like that is a huge boon. ESPECIALLY for those who aren't magically inclined. And for those who are magically inclined, such as the Miraculum... they'd take it just because they can. To keep it out of enemy hands, to employ it strategically as they see fit, etc. So it would need to travel with a big enough group to defend it. As long as that is met, we can work anything out.
