Shin is proving so damn hard to line right. I chose a strange perspective to draw from.

@Sikako J

Sure, sounds good to me. Is this much like Shanty Town? If so I'll go on and make the thread.

Hmm, so, I'm quite new here. Where would I sign up my character for this sort of thing, if it's still available?

@LeeRoy Shin looks pretty cool, what's his story?

@Doc Doctor Yea that looks like it could be fun, lets give it a try. Not sure what Scout will be able to do against this beast, but she will give it her all.

@Esarey Sure as far as I know, I think you can just post a character or request up in this thread or the Interest Check.

@Esarey I don't think there is a specific format, but I think the gist of abilities, description, and the like would be useable. A lot of people have a link to their sheets in their signature. I only have one up so far, but many others have a vast selection.

Shin is my Oldest and Boldest character. He's had the most work put into him over the years, and he's the character I'm most familiar with.

Shin was born in Alternate Universe Number Who Gives a Damn, this is not the same universe as LeeRoy's origin universe of Universe Number Who Fucking Cares. LeeRoy was born in Who Fucking Cares and wound up in Who Gives a Damn, this is how they are connected.

In U#WGaD, society is much different. It's industrial age a few years early. In the 1700s. Pretty much everything was the same, except political ideals started way earlier. I was going to go into super deep detail about it, but I'll just summarize.

Young Kid: Normal but apathetic child, no demonstration of psychopathic tendencies.
Teenager: Trained in Martial Arts to give him a strong foundation.
Young Adult: Joined a society known for killing people, but far above the law. He killed his first man and found out his nearly sexual obsession with death.
Adult: Became obsessed with becoming physically perfect so he can kill more efficiently, it becomes like a drug addiction at this point.
Middle Age: Shin was sent out to kill a man who was reportedly Immortal. LeeRoy.

Unfortunately, this is how he gets his facial scar. Shin breaks into LeeRoy's laboratory as he's working on his Thermal Gauntlets, winds up catching a facefull of burning hand. Obliterating his eye and ruining his face. Then he was thrown from a third story window, just before he hit the ground he was selected as a potential Godslave.

The God of Form saw his obsession with physical perfection as a perfect medium for him to enslave Shin. Shin was granted immortality and The Black Staff.

He then spent the next few centuries perfecting his body.

Edit:
FACT: No matter who Shin fights, no matter who they are as a person. They suddenly become the most emotionally stolid and immovable individual. Losing all emotional ties to their sense of self.

It's funny how that coincidentally ignores his jeering and vulgar manner of speech.

Total coincidence though.

What do you mean? People ignore his taunts? Unless he has a magical knack for it, it's unlikely he's said anything people haven't heard before. We do tend to play veteran characters after all.

@MelonHead Sure multiple fights can give me different views on the character and see how to push her limits. Yes the Clockwork Man fight was wildly entertaining!

All three of those Characters looked to fit a fight against Scout quite well. Which would be your preference?

I'm honestly not bothered, I think Metz might be a little too much of a handful for her though, so maybe Isaac or the Weeper, either would be interesting. The Weeper is potentially more dangerous because he has a semi-automatic pistol, but it seems like Scoutti has an option available for projectiles so Isaac is probably the more credible threat. It's really up to you, the Weeper has been known to attack people completely at random, Isaac tends to be serving his master (who he believes is a man called Adrian Valdovsk, but is actually Vanarus Sallein) who's a Vampire Noble.

Which do you think would fit better fighting Scoutti? The Weeper could come equipped with a mini-crossbow or a flintlock instead if he needs to fight her in a medieval setting, both characters are pretty flexible in that regard, they're basically immortal.

Let's say a character has an insecurity, Shin's own face works nicely. If someone intentionally jeered at his face, it would be very distracting. Frustrating and if they went out of their way to harm his face worse, it would set him on a tirade.

The emotional aspect of fights is too often ignored. That's why Shin wears the mask. None of his other injuries are bothersome, but the facial disfigurement is humiliating. Especially since it's his greatest failure.

Shin is a special case though, he has a visible flaw that can be picked up on by any opponent who can reasonably infer that he is sensitive about it. I agree with you however, outside of taunts which I have to admit I don't think would be very effective most of the time, people still sometimes fall flat on RPing real characters in Arena. There's always a danger of slipping into combat robot mode where the feeling of your character is barely there. Ironically, speaking of the Weeper, I made him a while ago to essentially force my opponents to pay attention to that side of fighting, I never got to use him much though.

My characters, as a whole, tend to be fairly melancholy. Some are slightly unhinged, most have regrettable circumstances in their lives which account for them essentially living lives of war, at least whenever they're unfortunate enough to be having their story told through me. However it would take a fairly perceptive opponent to really pick up on my character's insecurities and exploit them. Fury is by far the most vulnerable to emotional manipulation. The only character of mine who really does lack emotion is the Clockwork Man, and maybe Judgement, but that lack of emotion is significant parts of their personalities.

Still, an interesting point.

Ooo, both those characters looks like a very good fight. Lets try out the Weeper, perhaps with a flinklock of sorts.

Scouti is a wanderer searching for new Allomantic metals and alloys so she could wander nearly anywhere.

Alright, I'll bring the Weeper with a flintlock pistol, one shot, maybe a couple spare balls if he's given time to reload, which can take up to twenty seconds, so unlikely.

Feel free to choose any Arena you want and introduce your character, the Weeper will be along shortly to disturb her with his weirdness.

My characters are generally emotionally invested, it simply doesnt take center-stage in combat, because none of my characters exist solely for it, and their progression not entirely based on battles. To top it off, Coban as a character for all intents and purposes *is* immune to jeers, taunts, and threats of almost all types. His single greatest asset is his mind and he knows it, so hes developed his ego to a near adamantine level of resistance. His ego is as hard to pierce as any of his barriers. And they've acquired a reputation for being exceptionally hard to break.

This isnt to say he isnt ever emotionally charged and is a blank slate, though. He usually just does not venture into extremes of emotional unstibility in true cold, calculating fashion.

I can understand why emotions usually wouldn't show up in a fight. From second to second, a character's focus would be on what was happening rather than what it meant to them personally. Besides, most veterans would have trained themselves to suppress their fear and uncontrollable anger, since those might hinder them in battle.

That said, you can get some pretty cool moments if you let the personal side of things slip in. I remember doing one fight where the two characters were hitting on each other during combat. They flirted, drew closer, and eventually ended up kissing- which one fighter used as a distraction to knee the other in the stomach and then floor them. The two had another meeting later on, which quickly turned into a violent grudge match fueled by anger over the first fight, and ended up being even more fun than the original.

Once I'm home I'll be able to post.

I'm definitely going to see the limits of Corban's patience.

EDIT: I'm a dirty liar who likes to sleep. I'll post when I wake up.

I'm curious about the Arena. How are the RPs here done? What type of RPs are conducted? and other curiosities that my brain has jumbled up.

Wonderful! *cracks knuckles*

How are the RPs here done?

Two characters enter, one character leaves.

What type of RPs are conducted?

We've got a pretty good variety... there's fights to the death, fights to maul your opponent so badly they might as well be dead, fights to fight someone just for the sake of fighting, and tournaments.

It's an arena. Should be obvious, no?

Obvious enough. But doesn't hurt asking anyway just to make sure my mind is on the right page.
