Name: Joseph “Injun Joe” Harjo.

Age: Thirty-two.

Ethnicity: Half-breed.

Occupation/Place in the Combination: Enforcer.

Personal History:

Nobody knows for sure where Injun Joe is from. He showed up one day in Saloon City and has spent the years since terrorizing the enemies of the Combination. Some say Injun Joe is the half-breed son of a high-ranking member within the Combination that had a taste for squaw. Others that he was orphaned as a child and taken in by the kindly son of a Combination official. All anyone knows for sure about Joseph Harjo is that he fiercely loyal to the Combination and is uniquely skilled with a blade.

Those that have crossed paths with Joe and lived describe him as softly spoken and well educated. His hair is short and well kept, he dresses in “European dress” as opposed to Native clothing, and has impeccable manners. To Central City’s Negro and Native population, Injun Joe’s name is dirt. Though he is often trusted with more sensitive Combination matters, Harjo is not above performing menial tasks like debt collection – often from Negros and Natives in Black Jack. He shows them no quarter and is reported to despise them even more than the white man.

Every day for Joe is a test of his loyalties, his performance in the Combination is more scrutinized than most given his blood, and Joe is acutely aware of this. It would be wrong to call Harjo immoral. He takes no pleasure in the pain he inflicts on behalf of the Combination. He knows however that without the Combination he would be indistinguishable from the other ill-tempered half-breeds that can be found in their cups at public houses in Saloon City or Black Jack. Or dead.
