"Oh, my sweet summer child, what do you know of fear?"

This is a game set in the world of George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire fantasy series, as well as the short stories of the Hedge Knight, and most recently HBO's adaption series 'Game of Thrones'. Credit and thanks goes to Mr. Martin himself. And of course to those taking the time to participate.

This is, however, an 'Alternate Universe' game. While canon is where our story begins...it will certainly not be where it ends.

Westeros long suffered under the shadow of a bloody civil war. Greens versus Blacks, King versus Queen, siblings against siblings, friends against friends. Yet peace was finally achieved only when King Aegon II, of the greens, and Queen Rhaenyra I, were both dead. The victorious supporters of the deceased Queen Rhaenyra installed her lone surviving son, King Aegon III, upon the Iron Throne. At age eleven, it was decided that the boy king was too young to rule. Somehow, the following five year period of Regency was nearly as bad for the Realm as the civil war that preceeded it; political schemes, plots, and assassinations happened as the regents fought one another for political power.

King Aegon, the Third of His Name of House Targaryen, brought an end to the madness, dismissing his Regents when he came of age and entrusting Handship to his brother, Prince Viserys. Yet what followed was a broken reign by a broken King. Even Prince Viserys, Hand of the King, who had once had the gift of charm, was left stern after his abandonment by his once beloved Free Cities bride. While loved by few, both Targaryens were able to keep the Kingdom united and relatively peaceful--helped by one of the shorter winters on record.

With a warm spring came the death of the Broken King, Aegon II, and the coronation of King Daeron, the First of His Name of House Targaryen.

IC Details

  • The game will take place during the year 157 AC.
  • Spring has arrived early and warm.
  • The game begins two days after King Daeron I's coronation.
  • Some nobility have extended their stays in the capital for political reasons.
  • Small Council seats open to PCs.
  • Don't worry about canons, but if you want, you can apply for one.
  • I will be NPCing House Targaryen as the GM.
  • Most believe the dragons have all died off.

OOC Details

  • I will be the GM for this game; HeySeuss will be my Co-GM.
  • Post WIP House/Character Sheets in the OOC for review.
  • Post approved House/Characters Sheet in the Characters Tab.
  • Advanced standards. Reasonable posting rate: one post every week, at least.
  • You are assumed to be an adult by submitting a character for this game; please act like one.
  • Applications may take a few days before a decision can be made. Generally issues will be resolved over PMs.
  • Players are encouraged to play typically one-on-one scenarios, large battle scenarios, cloak-and-dagger scenarios, small plots and large plots. To be creative, and to interactive with their fellow players on their own to plot is expected. Take initiative.

Character Sheets

Please note: Apply for one character, or an entire House. Generally, players will either pick up a canon house or create their own house and roleplay with one or several members of it. This means each player is entitled to several characters per house. However, they do not all have to be members of said house by ties of blood. Instead you can use several types of characters as points of views.

Naturally there are other options in the world of aSoIaF, such as Septons, hedge knights and sellswords, spies and spymasters, mercenaries and merchants from across the Narrow Sea, and many more. Additionally, as spots fill up or the need arises, players are allowed to play as more than one house or take over a fallen one. Get creative, don't be afraid to push a few boundaries.

Questions, comments, ruminations? Feel free to ask here in the OOC, PM me, or catch me in the game's chat.

I’ll be working on House Manderly & House Reyne— just to throw that out there. Should be up soonish now I know what house requirements are. My POVs will include a Kingsguard which has already been worked out, and the two respective lords of White Harbor and Castamere.

I'm currently researching the Kingsguard. For right now, the only member of the Kingsguard I'm absolutely certain of is the Dragonknight.

This is kinda my top priority right now considering we have two or three folks applying for KG characters.

IIRC, that also means that one of the small council seats will be taken up, since the LC of the Kingsguard is a member

House Tyrell of Highgarden

Growing Strong

Description: House Tyrell is the principal house of the Reach: the most wealthy, most bountiful, and therefore most populous kingdom of Westeros. Among the Reach lords can be raised the single largest army in the continent, some one hundred thousand men at their peak, twice as large as any lesser kingdom. This alone commands House Tyrell respect, but is not the focal point of their vanity. Instead, the men of Highgarden preen themselves on their adherence to chivalry; their status as Westeros' most honourable knights, as skilled in battle as they are gracious in victory. The women of House Tyrell, too, are of the vainer sort, dressing in colourful and elaborate gowns that set the bar for fashion across the Seven Kingdoms, and both upholding and exemplifying all of the manners and grace of a proper lady. Highest among the Tyrell's titles is that of Lord Paramount of the Mander, granting them suzerainty over all other noble families within the Reach, but the Lord of Highgarden is also traditionally known as the Defender of the Marches, High Marshall of the Reach and Warden of the South—an appropriately lengthy list for a most noble household.

History: Though they now rank among the highest lords of Westeros, the Tyrells were once among the lowest. In the days before Aegon's Conquest, the Tyrells served as the hereditary stewards of Highgarden, loyal servants of the ruling House Gardener, Kings of the Reach. When the Targaryens came with their dragons, and the last Gardener King and his army were burned alive on the legendary Field of Fire, House Tyrell relented to House Targaryen and surrendered Highgarden to them, swearing their fealty to Westeros' new kings. For this act, King Aegon granted the Tyrells lordship of the castle they had once served, and created them Lords Paramount of the Mander, to rule the Reach under House Targaryen. The other, more powerful houses of the Reach—the Hightowers, the Redwynes, the Florents and others—were less than pleased.

In more recent years, House Tyrell of Highgarden has attempted to remain aloof from the bickering of other houses. Under the regency of Lady Meredyth Tyrell, the host of Highgarden did not become involved in the Dance of Dragons, even as their bannermen fought against each other on either side. It was feared that whichever of the warring factions, Greens or Blacks, came to be victorious in the war, might look down on House Tyrell for their neutrality. However, this did not come to fruition; the eventual deaths of both rival candidates for the Iron Throne led to the ascension of Aegon III and his marriage to Jaehaera, uniting the lines of succession and leading to an uneasy peace. This peace was a time of spectacular prosperity for House Tyrell, as they came to entrench themselves more firmly atop their weakened vassals. Under the reign of Aegon III, and the ascension of Lyonel Tyrell as Lord of Highgarden, the Tyrells have become as wealthy and prestigious as ever. House Tyrell's growing strength, though, chafes at their more ambitious bannermen, and Lord Lyonel seems more concerned with establishing alliances abroad and readying for the next war, never imagining conflict at home.

Tyrell Household

-I will be adding at least two more members of the household. These will include Gella Tyrell, Lyonel's aunt, and at least one of Merry's agents among the smallfolk.
