'Lo.
I'm considering running an open game of Mongoose Traveller with some Classic Traveller bits bolted on. For those who don't know, Traveller is a sci-fi roleplaying game, with atmosphere ranging from BattleStar Galactica to Firefly, depending on how it's run. It's a relatively simple system that can be highly lethal and often favors players who can think of creative solutions to their issues. The character generation system is also unique, in that your character goes through multiple 4-year segments of life called 'terms' to gain skills, contacts, and money.
I'm open to players of all experience levels, and currently have no limit on the number of players either. One convenient feature of play-by-post tabletop roleplaying is that it's easier to manage several parties at once, so I do not have to put a limit in place.
Most of the rules can be accessed through the Traveller SRD, with one notable exception being each career, which I will have to provide. The core mechanic is simply 2d6 + modifiers, with an eight or higher being a success. If you're interested so far, go ahead and take a quick look at the rules and decide. I think the system is fairly simple to grasp and beginners should have no problem learning more comprehensive rules on the fly.
If you're interested in joining, post a reply and we'll see about getting this game started. Feel free to post with questions as well, and I'll do my best to answer.
