I have to share this image. I saw it looking through google, and it clicked to me with the perfect art of our merry little RP band.

Just let me know if I need to tweek weight ratios. It probably is a tad on the heavy side looking through the idea I had. Considering a Tank is on treads and the mechs are supposed to, well, walk.

That's a hawken mech.

@Cayden Black@Sophrus

There is a slight window for either of your characters to be involved in the backstory of Garret if you want since there were several security forces at the fight that ruined/uplifted his life.

I could certainly see Carter being the one that helped attack his home and destroy it. Fits perfectly into his backstory even if he regrets the act.

I did want to make a suggestion about your energy cannon though. @Cultural Titan
If it really is able to penetrate armour, wouldn't it be more fair to say a longer recharge or even a single shot system? Energy capacitors would easily burn out in my thoughts of the design, so I could see that being its flaw, which would give it more of a tension build for the whole "One shot one kill" being an emphasis on the one shot. It's up to you, but I just wanted to contribute to ideas.

Just don't put an exhaust port, we all remember Star Wars and Exhaust ports...

You could only make that shot with sheer dumb luck or the force. Seriously, the idea shooting a torpedo the radius of the moon with less than 2 meters of deviation over the run is kinda crazy and considering the right angle the torpedoes took to even get into the exhaust port it suggests that it was all the force to me.

That said something needs to give on the lightning cannon. Maybe what needs to happen is simply to reduce its power. I'll sleep on it, but this is the reason I haven't added him to the characters yet. Though maybe I can just sau fuck balance I'm the dm, but that doesn't sound fair.

So. It seems the lightest and most lightly armed is my mech it seems. ;w;

it clicked to me with the perfect art of our merry little RP band.

Also, I was thinking it would be more like this in my mind. Considering how popular mechs seem to be in this rp's setting.

I do not see how both images cannot be true. I really like that picture though. Anyway, your mech may be on the lighter side of things, but the tempest will basically be done for if you get in close. It can maybe block a sword strike or two, but I cannot imagine it being able to keep up with a mech with the full range of human movement. As for how you fair against the other two... well, it'll get easier if ever beam swords become a thing, but for now I'm sure they have weaknesses. Bad turn rates almost certainly. Though they may speak to the contrary.

I know, I was secretly hoping to have someone else to have a mech with similar concept so I can declare them as my rival and have hot blooded fights while we shout each other's names at each other. ^^;

There are even other ways to achieve the same sort of effect like a spinal or cranial jack. Regardless I hope someone does so that there can be at least one sword fight in the tournament arch. I mean a good one. Any mech that can hold one can attack with a sword, but that doesn't make them good at it.

I'm working on a second character, Dominic Carter, who has a suit more like your own. He won't show up till later though.

@Cultural Titan I can say that the Jaeger takes time to reach high speed and turning is an issue at those speeds, but it rarely goes to full speed unless rushing a positional it reduces accuracy to the point of blind firing.

I've also overlooking at actual weapons for anti armour (for myself mostly) and thought I'd post them to give people ideas for themselves.

If anyone is wondering, the Jaeger uses HE in the Maj. Gun, not sabot.

I'm also seeing a lot of missile users. I hope they're not all guided systems, a jammer would ruin your day otherwise lol

Tanks of the modern age can stay on target while moving if I'm not mistaken.

That link doesn't work for me.

I just add rockets/missiles to like every mech. Just throw 'em on the shoulder and call it a day.

Well, if you want to keep it that way I suppose I shouldn't stop you.

Anyway, thinking about how hard it should be to penetrate armor and I guess what I'm at in my head right now is 9-10 bullets from an assault rifle analog to one area of a mech with medium armor to break through and start doing damage. Of course any arbitrary number or even generalized range is basically nothing in the face of a gatling gun if said gun was using ammunition worth a damn and this doesn't account at all for explosives or eventual energy weapons... Anyone have any thoughts?

I dunno, putting a number on it with so many different weapons, designs, etc would be... difficult or impossible.

I think we can write it up fairly with your moderation.

As much as I'd like to say "this is what works" these kinds of battle games can be difficult to make work. You're right about bullet to armour ratios, in a technical side anyway, because most armour today (and going by advancements for sci fi purposes) would survive only a handful of rounds before critical weaknesses would cause it to be as effective as tissue paper shields in a warzone. Missiles, depending on the type used, could easily penetrate even heavy armour with a single well placed shot. Same goes for certain cannon rounds, such as the HE or Sabot, but again this is difficult to gauge for a 100% success ratio.

If I may be so bold as to say, it might be worth moving this style of RP to a more Dungeons and Dragons setting. I've played a lot of D&D in the past and I can say it works pretty well. The issue will be that our mechs will need to be set into a strict guideline system which will be heavily effected by numbers. Some may need re-working altogether.

If you decide on the Dice roll idea Titan, let me know and I can find my Stars Without Number guide lines a friend gave me in PDF. format. It's a rather confusing book at first, but if you guys are at all interested, the option is there. I know a roll site too and, if anyone is interested, I even have Star Wars rule books too. These styles of games can be a hell of a lot of fun.
I DM'd (Dungeon Mastered) a Clone Wars game once. Had a situation when one person stole a tank and used it to blow up a munitions depot. Only issue was another player was in said depot...he lived.

I'd like not to go to a paper and pencil system. In a lot of those right now.

@Cayden Black

personally i dont like the idea of a D&D style thing unless people are causing trouble with godmodding and the like. Im here for the writing, interesting story and epic combat. adding dice seems like something that would detract from the game.

im sure it could work, and if the DM goes that rout thats fine. but i may bow out of the game if its the case.

Edit: didnt see those new posts until i posted this.

It's fine Sophrus. Personally if we did go that route, I'd recommend also moving to a voice chat orientated RP. pure text based Dice systems are a difficult thing to do because, as you say, they can truly detract from the story. I'll be on most of the day, working on my Stars dice game for now. It's amazing how many ideas you can get from cool music and artwork.

On a side note, if anyone wants to find out what it's like, I'm in need of new players. Just a thought.

I could do with two or three more players for this. Its kinda what I was hoping for.

EDIT: And by players I do mean accepted characters. We technically have those players floating around in the aether.
