Story: She lived in New York City. Her parents divorced when Keira was six. Life with her mother was never good, and it only got worse when her mother got this abusive new boyfriend. However, she really adored her dad and spent a lot of time with him. He was in the military and worked in a base in the city, and she'd spend a lot of time there with him. She loved gun training and eventually was certified as an expert marksman. When she was seventeen, her father died in an accident at the base. And when she was eighteen, a new team began to arrive at the base, a young special ops team her father had operated with. They arrived slowly, first with the second in command Shay Skyler, with whom Keira butted heads a lot. However, once other members of the team started to arrive, she made friends with some of them, Mere and Ally, spending most of her time with them and quickly falling hard in love with Shay.
The problem was, they were so far out of her league. They had all been trained very hard from a very young age (all from military families), and had grown very close, and some of them were really against the idea of a stranger with little field experience and, to be honest, intellect far below theirs to join up with them. However, those who did like her managed to bring her along on some missions. It was still difficult. No matter how hard she worked, she was always going to be the weakest link.
About a year after she met them, the group was hoping to leave the military and start new lives. She ended up living with them, but was restless and frustrated. She wasn't sure she had a future with the group and was tired of never being good enough. After a few weeks, she decided to move out, not just leaving their apartment, but their lives, thinking it was best to break it off completely and them to all move on from the disturbance she had caused. Mere and Ally couldn't convince her to stay, so they told Shay to convince her, because she had a hard time saying no to him. They got into a fight over it, but just as she was walking out on him, he admitted he loved her. Not to be cliched, but that changed things.
His confession convinced her that she could make it work there, with them, and agreed to stay. While everyone else was getting jobs, she was enrolling in college and got accepted into NYU. She had always wanted to major in military studies, but she had accepted that the military portion of her life was over decided to go a different way, majoring in architecture and minoring in music, things that her friends and roommates didn't necessarily know everything about. She eventually did consider moving into a dorm for a year or two to branch out a little socially and make some friends for herself away from her home friends. Shay, now her boyfriend, objected, but she didn't give him much choice.
They eventually married.
