So as some of you may or may not know I am getting married on April 1st of 2017... I've made a post before detailing the trials and tribulations I've faced during the planning process from my fiancées family. Well, the saga continues. His father won't acknowledge my existence to the point where he will say to someone else "can you make that move?" If I'm in his way. Granted, I was getting used to it. BUT NOW his brother who was supposed to get married in October is has now decided he's going to have TWO full blown weddings. One in January before ours and one in October after ours. Their reasoning? They want to be married and don't want to wait until October but they want to have their wedding still after ours so they can use the slogan "saving the best for last"... THEN I get a message from his brothers fiancée telling me all of this and saying "I know you guys are okay with it I don't know why I even. Thought I I needed to give you a heads up! LOL" first of all we are not and never will be friends this is literally the first time she acknowledged my presence so what the FUCK does she think she is just assuming we would be okay with it??????? I am beyond pissed off and truly considering rescheduling my wedding but I don't know what to do. We've already mailed save the dates like it would get real complicated.

And I know it seems stupid to even care but they are also using the same venue, they are using our DJ, they have the same bridal party with the exclusion of my sister, and they want to use the same church as us. Twice. I mean am I losing my mind or would anyone be bothered by this???

It sounds like they're going far out of their way in order to be shit to you and make themselves feel like they're better somehow, so it's reasonable to be pissed.

Hopefully you'll get the last laugh when they have to pay for two weddings just to be petty.

ed: I'm not actually sure what you could do, sorry. Try to focus on your own wedding, and planning your own future, is all I can come up with. Weddings are huge elaborate messes with lots of familial drama, so if anything this might at least be the last time you have to deal with their fuckery on this kind of scale.

How important is it to you to have the big family wedding? Are there other people you want there who aren't shit to you? Because you could just run away somewhere on zero notice and get married with the minimum witnesses. This day is about you and him, not them, so that's just my two cents on taking it back

@Kyuki Unless you've already put down payments on stuff, go ahead and change the date. April is far enough away that if anyone made plans to go, they can easily change it. The only complicated part would be sending out more Save the Dates. Could be worth it though. Depending on how bad the situation is.

I'm glad I don't have the money to piss away on a big wedding. Like I really care who uses what slogen. When I decide to tie the knot, all my thoughts will be on the person I'm suppose to be spending the rest of my life with. Who really cares what my other siblings weddings will be like?

Shrink the size or carve your own path's my take on it, to hell with the other people.

Then again, I shouldn't be saying much, I was unconventional at best...

My opinion regarding this is more or less the same as the people who think you should just focus on your fiancé and say "to hell with them" when dealing with their family. When all is said and done the only thing that matters is that this is the person you want to spend the rest of your life with; who really gives a shit what their family thinks?

I'd say ignore these people completely and don't let them interfere with what you and your fiancé share; it's none of their business to try and get involved anyway. If someone tries to interfere with my relationship with my fiancé, that's the end of my friendship with those people; this includes her family or my own family. I don't really give a damn what they think, and it's not their place to butt their noses into the situation in the first place, regardless of who they are.

All you need to think about is you and your fiancé; don't let other people ruin what you have.

Unless you've put down deposits already, then you're not locked in to anything. Switch things up and then keep details tight-lipped so they can't steal your ideas.

Personally, I wouldn't be bothered by most of it -- it just sounds like petty shit on their end. (And the day certainly isn't about their petty shit.) And that slogan is ridiculous. They sound like they're mentally still in high school. (And that would be lame even for then.)

Besides, when all is said and done, you really don't remember much about the wedding until a few years after the fact. You spend so long planning it and it happens so fast that you really don't have time to process the events of the day until much later. (I had someone tell me that, but I didn't believe them. Turns out that it was true. I didn't start recalling much of anything until a year or two after the fact.)

Personally, if I knew what I knew now back then, I'd have eloped and spent all the money for the wedding on an AMAZING honeymoon. There are so many family politics with weddings that I wouldn't go through the drama again. If I did have a ceremony at all, I'd choose somewhere pretty and quiet with a priest and maybe just a handful of immediate family and super-close friends. (No more than 20 people tops. Including the bride/groom/priest.) Also, I'd probably save money on the big dress and go for something simple and classic that I could wear again on anniversaries or something. (The big fancy dress sits in the closet and just takes up space, but you feel compelled to keep the damn thing for one reason or another. It's stupid.) The only things worth splurging on is the honeymoon and the photography. (Because of the memories. That's all you take away from the event after the fact.)

TL;DR -- Don't sweat the petty stuff, just do your own thing and ignore them.

You shouldn't be getting married. It's a mistake. Wait until you're done being in your 20's or you will eventually regret it. I promise this to you.

I can't believe Kyuki is getting married before me. God, I'm getting old. I remember when you were just a little tyke! (you're still young, obviously.)

Congratulations on the engagement! Sorry his family is so lame. It took me about 3 years to get my ex's family to like me and when we finally broke up 3 years after that they all liked me more. Some people just take time to warm up to others, and some will always be asshats.

If you need to talk msg me on facebook.
