The Age of Castles, Knights, and Magic: Medieval Fantasy Self Insert Roleplay
by Aspie3000
Introduction
You are you, the real you in real life. You have boarded a plane headed to Europe
for vacation along with the rest of the people in this roleplay. On your way there the plane is
hit by a raging storm which seemed to have come from nowhere out of a clear sky. The
plane crashes and most everyone on board is dead, except for you and the other roleplayers.
You find that you have crashed into a forest in the mountains which appear similar to the
Swiss alps and your adventure begins. What you will find is that that the plane has crashed
into some alternate facsimile of the dark ages, 800 AD in fact. In this time in our real world
Charlemagne ruled and empire that stretched from France, to Germany, to Italy. At this time
what would become England was separated into seven Anglo Saxon Kingdoms each ruled
by a warrior king. At this time the Vikings raided from the seas in their longboats and
Ireland was still divided into tribal clans. However though this dimension resembles 800
AD something is off about it. The names and personalities of the kings and persons are
wrong. The borders are not entirely right, the names of the kingdoms and tribes are
different. The Holy Roman Empire of Charlemagne analog though being in the early
Middle Ages has technology which mirrors more closely the High Middle Ages such as
stone castles and knights in shining armor... and most importantly magic exists along with
all the myths and monsters of Europe and beyond. This is not our world, our history, our
reality, this is the world of Castles, Knights, and
Story
Basically the idea of this roleplay is that it's a self insert roleplay where the players
are transported to an alternate dimension which resembles a fantasy version of the Dark
Ages in 800 AD but with magic and monsters. Why you've been transported there is a
mystery which will be solved later, but there will be a villain in it or maybe several which
has to be stopped. I made it a fantasy world so we wouldn't have to stick exclusively to
history or even geography. Eventually in the story we could travel beyond Europe as well to
Africa, the Americas, and Ancient China but first we'll be in Europe.
Relevant Kingdoms of the Dark Ages
Holy Roman Empire- The Holy Roman Empire, also called the Frankish Empire is
ruled by king Charles the First a Frankish King very much like our Charlemagne. The Holy
Roman Empire stretches across the countries of Europe we would know as France,
Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, and the Netherlands and called Holy because it's the
empire which protects the Catholic church, Roman because the Pope has crowned king
Charles as the emporer of Rome, and an empire because it is vast. The empire is an empire
which is bilingual with the western half speaking vulgar latin, and the easter half speaking a
Germanic language. The people of the empire are mostly of the Catholic religion but some
outlaws in the wilds of the Germanic provinces worship Odin, Thor, and the old Gods of the
Germanic people. The Holy Roman Empire is Feudal is nature with castles, knights in
shining armor, and aristocrats called counts ruling over various duchies.
Al Andalus- Al Andalus is basically Moorish Spain.
The Empire of Scandinavia- In this roleplay Scandinavia, Norway, Sweden, and
Denmark as well as the Orkney Isles of Scotland are united under one great Viking king
called Ragnar Sigurdson. This kingdom is a kingdom of the Vikings and is pretty much set
up along Germanic lines as far as government goes with kings ruling the place, Jarls ruling
under him, and the rest of the viking freemen serving under them. This empire worships the
old Gods of the Scandinavian people and are dedicated to destroying the Holy Roman
Empire in revenge for the bloody verdict of Verden for which many Odin worshiping
Saxons were forced to convert or die by king Charles.
England- England is separated into seven Anglo Saxon Kingdoms run in pretty much thre
same way that Scandinavia is run because the Anglo Saxons are also a Germanic people.
However the kingdoms of England are Christian.
Scotland- Scotland is separated into two warring kingdoms of Celts, the Picts in the east,
and the Irish Dal Riata in the west. These two kingdoms are mortal enemies.
Ireland- Ireland is a Gealic speaking land of clans, tribes and hillforts. It is Catholic and
seperated into four kingdoms which are Ulster, Leinster, Connought, and Munster. Every
once in a while one kingdom defeats the others and one man becomes high king of Ireland.
The Byzantine Empire- The Byzantine Empire is the last surviving remanennt of the
Roman Empire and it still calls itself the Roman Empire. Byzantine Empires stretches from
Greece to Turkey and is eastern orthodox in religion. There is fear among the Muslim world
that Empress Iona may marry King Charles of the Holy Roman empire bringing back
through their marriage a revived Christian Roman Empire.
The Slavs- East of the Holy Roman Empire and north of the Byzantine Empire live many
vast confederations of wild pagan slavic speaking people.
below is a map of the real 800 AD to give you an idea of the general lay of the land.
