Dead Cruiser Dishonour Before Death / Better You Than Me

K I N G D O M D E A T H

A monster unlike any other plagues the Plain of Faces in Kingdom Death. The Restless Watcher, a being of godlike power, wanders as a ravenous specter, its hunger knowing no bounds. Normally confined to cycles of feeding and hibernation, a Watcher unbound as this one threatens to upset the harsh, yet crucial balance that exists in Kingdom Death. It raids the lantern hordes of its slumbering kin, devouring them along with the prey they gathered. It has sucked sun-sharks from the sky, and has killed what are thought to be the last remaining dragons. With every monster it consumes, its power grows, and hopes of stopping it grow slimmer.

Most in Kingdom Death are content to ignore the Restless Watcher. Some see it as a blessing, a gift from the gods to free them from the tyranny of monsters. Others are too concerned with matters of their own survival to expend effort worrying over such a beast. There are those that do not believe it exists at all.

You are different. In your heart of hearts, you know this beast is real, and lurks in the darkness of Kingdom Death. It is real, and you mean to kill it. Whether you can see that if left unchecked, it will mean the end of all life in Kingdom Death, or you merely seek the glory of slaying the king of all monsters, your goal is this beast's doom.

The little light left in this world grows dim. This could be the final lantern year for us all. Prepare for the hunt.

Reference. Consult this link for gear, fighting arts, and disorders. FULL LIST will help you with the latter two, and the drop-down menu will list every location, including the ones I mentioned. Select it and hit DISPLAY LOCATION to see the gear available there. I won't be using game mechanics, but use the available descriptions to abstract the purpose the gear/abilities/etc serve. Googling the name (possibly including "kingdom death") should bring up art of the item or skill.

I would much prefer only one of each of the archetypes other than survivor, but we'll see how it works out.

@Dead Cruiser

I'd imagine this is very much the first come first serve kind of thing. Anyway, here is a partial character sheet. I am working on finishing the rest, I'm just having a bit of trouble deciphering the purpose of having certain gear for game play purposes, et cetera. I'll make sense of it eventually. But any insight might help. Please let me know what you think so far.

Meh, see the edited post above. Apparently, it doesn't alert you if I tag you in an edit.

@ELGainsborough The gear is mostly supposed to be a representation of what your character brings along with them on this hunt. This includes weapons and armor. As well, you're one disorder short for your character (Emotionless is tacked onto your two from being Experienced). I won't say that you can't use that Call Shadow Tentacles fighting art, but be aware that it's learned from battling the Slenderman.

@Ryuzaki
Looks good so far. Rather than copy over the gameplay text for the fighting arts or disorders, you can write a little blurb about your character if you like.

@Dead Cruiser

Oh I see. I will definitely take a look at this this morning then. I can take on another disorder and I will certainly be reordering my equipment to account for my armor and what not. It shouldn't take me too long, i'll go ahead and repost the character sheet once I get it reformatted.

EDIT: I lied. I've been up for 25 hrs. I've got two kids until nap time, and I'm struggling to keep a thought in my head. I will certainly get it up by Monday, est in the states.

Sorry for the delay, I lost track of the time. I should have a Savior charactersheet up tonight or tomorrow depending on how much real life has decided to harass me.

Will get a CS up tomorrow morning. I'm currently on a night shift so I won't be concentrating on anything other than work for now.

well here was mine. I was waiting to see a few others so I could get an idea for gear but I guess not.

****

Name: He had a birth name. Once. He remembers that it had great meaning to him at the time, but time grows fuzzy as you wander the dream. That name is long since forgotten. Now those who know him simply call him Cobalt.

Archetype: Savior

Age: Elder

Appearance: Cobalt is worn. That is the only way to describe him. Years of living have taken their toll, as have years of dreaming. He is old, not a distinguished old...just old. Crows feet line his eyes, his skin looks like old grayish leather, and his feet are gnarled and black. From a distance he looks...wrong. There is something odd about his shape, it's not quite human. Upon closer inspection one can see he has faded, the edges of his body are indistinct, almost completely gone, leaving him without curve or shape and rather resembling a wide noodle with noodle arms and legs. His hair is a vibrant blue color; its color and quality obsessively maintained by Cobalt. It costs him much, it is not easy in this world, but to him his brilliant blue hair is a banner to rally around. It is as much a key to his goal to be a savior of mankind as fighting off the monsters is. People need a banner of hope to encourage them, to lift flagging spirits. His dress is equally as bizarre. He loathes the feeling of being wrapped in clothing, armor is even worse, and has adapted his clothing style to fit this. He wears a knee-length kilt, it's tartan pattern a mix of the same blue as his hair and a soft green. Of course time and use have worn it down so the colors are almost faded away. He wears no shirt or undergarments which can sometimes give people near him an unpleasant surprise but he cares little; the only reason he even wears a kilt is because it was impressed upon him long ago that wandering around naked wasn't acceptable. Instead of a shirt he decorates his body with brilliant dyes and muds, if he ever can find them, and brilliantly colored scarves and snippets of cloth tied around his upper arms and and just below his knees, creating streamers that billow and flap with quick movements. Over it all he wears a great feathered mantle; mostly formed of gray and blue feathers but dotted here and there at random with red, orange, yellow, and other vibrant colored feathers.

History: When he was born Cobalt was swept into the domain of the Ethereal Dreamer. He spent a lifetime in the brief moments he was away; the Dream of the Lantern drawing him ever deeper into the Dream. He saw so much; the brilliance of what could be. Every moment of his life that he can remember he was driven to aid mankind.

From the moment he was able he did everything he could to better the life of all. He was reckless and obsessed and it made a dangerous combination. Rarely did he think about the consequences of his actions, focused entirely as being a hero to others. Like a drug he couldn't get enough of it. It has guided and destroyed his life ever since and the harm he has sustained, physically and mentally, have come close to breaking him.

He's been living, fighting, and trekking across the worlds, Waking and Dreaming, for so long he has forgotten most of everything. Those who ask him about his past are treated to a wild tale mixed with fantasy and reality and even Cobalt can't tell the difference anymore.

Fighting Arts:

Cobalt has always been a bit on the impulsive side, even though time, age, and experience have mellowed him a bit he still is driven and oftentimes reckless in the actions he chooses. He obsessively pursues any chance to improve mankind's existence even if it might put him in great danger. Despite all this, or perhaps because of it, he seems blessed with an OTHERWORLDLY LUCK, beyond even the wisdom that the Dream of the Lantern has shown him, that has helped keep him on his path to find a better future for all mankind.

Through his reckless actions he often finds himself in harsh and dangerous situations. As his experience in these nightmares, Awake and Dreaming, grew so too did the danger he faced. Unable to stand the thought, or the feel of armor, he was forced to learn new ways to protect himself that he could press onward. Over time his skin hardened, becoming IRON SKIN. Much like the armor he hated so much, his skin both shields and emboldens him. Every battle he survives gives him a chance to continue on his noble mission.

It has been many years that he has wandered the land, in reality and in the domain of the Ethereal Dreamer. He has fought battles that he has long forgotten, met survivors that he doesn't remember. Time has weathered him and weakened him, he knows he has not long left in this reality. Yet that only seems to press him onward in his mission to save humankind. His years have granted him experience making him KING OF A THOUSAND BATTLES and giving him fighting skills beyond that which a younger denizen might have. He may not have much time left but what he does have he intends to use well.

Disorders:
Cobalt has felt the pressures of the settlement weighing on him longer than he can remember, but a lifetime in the dream had prepared him for this. His QUIXOTIC nature lends itself perfectly to furthering this. Aware that so much rides on him, that so many are counting on him, he pushes himself to meet and exceed their expectations. His settlement, indeed all of mankind, are counting on him.

From the time he was very young Cobalt has hated things touching his skin. Even clothing irritated him and as a child he would never keep them on. As he grew older he learned to tolerate clothing, despite his VESTIPHOBIA but he hates every freaking second he has to wear it. Armor was simply unbearable. He found it so hot, rough, heavy, and constraining that even the idea of wearing it made him as ornery as if he had a burr up his nether. While he might tolerate clothing he flat out refuses to wear armor of any sort.

As he grew more experienced, traveled more, fought more, worked for the survival of all Cobalt has come to realize that not every great aid to mankind's survival is actually safe. Without swords, axes, knives, sharp weapons of all types it is likely mankind would be even worse off than they are already but such things were so dangerous. As he saw comrades, friends, casual acquaintances, and strangers injured by uncomfortably sharp objects such as swords and knives his AICHMOPHOBIA grew. Desperately uncomfortable around such objects he refuses to have anything to do with them and even finds himself subtly trying to avoid being around others who favor the constant use of such objects.

Time has worn Cobalt down. His body is fading, he is weak and weathered. More so than his body however is his mind. By now the years fighting the nightmares in the Waking world, trekking through the nightmares in the Dreaming world have left him STARK RAVING. His grip on sanity is shattered to a point where logic and reason only show the briefest glimmers. His reckless obsession to save all mankind is all he has left and drives him ever onward.
