A role-play based in a post-industrial dystopian version of Earth, “Terra”, relying heavily on cyberpunk elements particularly around social order with hints of cybernetics, robotics, cyber organisms. The role-play looks to avoid the typical online setting of the genre focusing more on the human aspect of it who live in a high tech-low life world of computers, technology and corruption. Mega-corporations have become governments and control almost all aspects of life holding political, social, military and economic power. Our characters will take on the roles of mercenaries, from cold, calculated hit-men for hire to lawful bounty hunters and everything in between. Hired by, private or progressing their own agenda, ranked by a notoriety system also effectively working as a karma system.
*The notoriety system works like karma systems seen implemented into games. It’ll heavily influence how you are perceived by both other players and NPCs, as well as the consequences of your actions.

The more contracts/bounties the higher ranking, notoriety measured by means of kill/capture. Example. Killing a Top 5 politician or apprehending a high-ranking criminal will earn you a lot more notoriety than a target of lesser note or stature.
2302. Terra (Formerly known as Earth). Population – 11 Billion. Society has moved on from production of goods and onto the production of services, ending the era of industrialization. More so than ever before in human history knowledge is power in a world ran by ideas. Cybernetics while still in an early stage are beginning to be implemented more and more but have not yet made themselves commonplace most often related to military personnel or gang members who have gotten hold of the technology over the black market. Vast mega-cities reign over the majority of the Earth leaving little natural space on land mass other than a few pockets and artificial habitats, most commonly parks in districts and those with a more scientific or practical function like timber farms (Trees grown en masse for the purpose of producing timber). Mega-corporations control society much like a government an example of one of the more prominent being EuroCorp. Other notable mentions include JPN-22 and Nova INC among many more. Surprisingly mobile phones, and computers have not become a thing of the past although have advanced technologically to becoming an absolute necessary part of life and has revolutionized how consumers act with the digital world. Humans have been divided into two categories by man-made evolution that far overshadows and outweighs simply male and female but not Human and Cyborg. The latter being those who make use of permanent augmented cybernetics such as artificial body parts often designed to carry out specific functions. Cyborg is a broad generalization as there are varying degrees from minor augmentation to those who are arguably more machine than human. The societal shift has lead to a difference in views on cybernetics many seeing as unnatural who stand opposed on differing scales of radicalism while the same scale also applies to the other side. Most mercenaries are hired by private corporations for espionage and assassination as well as security detail work among other career opportunities. Outside of this there are a number of mercenaries who work privately with hit-men and bounty hunters having become well paid jobs where the work was constant and the rewards easy to reap. It has also been known for mercenaries to join social activists as well as movements both social or political using their talents to further said ideology or mission.
Human
Unmodified, Jack-of-all-trades, regular everyday humans. The way nature intended is what a minority of this social group will tell you. Someone who has not undergone cybernetic modification or augmentation of any kind. It is debatable whether or not those who have needed cybernetics for severe, life-saving medical cases are Human or Cyborg which links deeply with the social construct of identity.
Cyborg
Nothing is certain and everything can be altered, even the human body. Flesh and bone have become just as malleable as data.The more advanced individual components of the body can be replaced or upgraded by surgical procedure, just like the components of any other machine. Some splinter groups within this wider group despise the human body’s physical constraints and discover freedom in its abandonment. The human body has become seen as a shell independent and detachable from personality and mind. While roughly 60% of the world’s population are Cyborg by definition the broad category covers those with minimal augmentation and only about 30% of the world’s population being considered ‘heavily modified.’

An exclusive caste in society forming a ruling elite. Urban myth and legend has developed this class group into something God-like, more legend than human leading to the name Ethereal. They are a private group who keep out of public light and sit higher than the heads of the Mega-corporations. A sort of ‘silent investor’ in this world.
