Hello, I'm Heap!

I've done a lot of play-by-post Role-Playing in my life, first on CLTCG (A site that was never very popular and shut down after a few years) and on Otazuzone which also got shut down. I was a moderator on CLTCG for a while before it closed. I've since had a busy life with no room for the extra time it takes to read other peoples posts and in turn, design characters and stories. I work a full time and part time job with a family as well so life is busy.

I really look forward to meeting some of the wonderful people I've seen here. This seems like a great community!

By trade IRL I'm a graphic designer, so if there is any way I can help on that front I'd be glad to!

@Heap241That's so nice that you are a graphic designer, that must be pretty cool. I'm a bit new myself but welcome to the Roleplayer guild. Hope you have a wonderful time here and if you have any questions you can PM me and I'll try to reply to them in the best of my ability. Happy RPing! :)

@ineffable OMG! It didn't tell me you replying!

Yes, I absolutely LOVE my job. I work with a great team and even though I more often then not put WAY too many hours in, I enjoy every second!

Nice to meet you btw!

@Heap241 BTW: Love your name (or user if it's not your real name) It's super unique...for some reason it reminds me of the Septimus Heap books if you know them :)

@Heap241 Welcome to the grand ol' Guild! I actually have a degree in graphic design myself, although I hate it, so never pursued a career in it haha. Decided to go back to school for physics which is one of my passions because at the end of the day, that's what matters. :P

If you need help with anything, feel free to ask!

Oh, and watch out for @ineffable. She's a wiley one! Haha

Thank you! =]

I seem to hear that a lot with fellow GD graduates. I have a job with a wonderful family owned company which makes the biggest difference. There's no corporate codes to follow and you can really just be creative.

What avenue of physics are you most interested in?

Thanks for the heads up about @ineffable btw ^_^

@Heap241 I realized halfway through my degree program it wasn't for me and instead of switching to something else, I stuck with it just to have the completion on record. Foolish of me.

I haven't decided but either astrophysics or particle physics seem the most interesting to me. I still have plenty of time to decide which approach I want to go but it will probably be one of the toughest.

I don't think that's foolish at all! There are a lot of things you can learn in a GD degree that help in everyday situations, including physics. You can digitally make diagrams and charts that may make easier for you later.

Hah! So either the study of the very large, or of the very small! A tough call indeed. Do you enjoy solar and galactic type conversations or micro biotic conversations more?

Both equally. It always starts by looking at the visual world. I'll probably decide once I have a better understanding of both worlds and which I find more alluring. I'll also be looking at other fields outside of that to see which subfield better translates to the most exciting kind of jobs, whether it's in the medical fields or technological fields. The fantastic thing about a physics degree is that it umbrellas over MANY different areas. A masters in physics, you can work as a data scientist or for an engineering company like Pfiser.

Or a defense contractor.

Its pretty exciting.

That sounds so exciting! What made you first discover your interest in physics?

As I understand it Pfizer works with pharmaceuticals don't they? If you worked with medical particles wouldn't you work with new bacteria, uniquely damaged tissue, fluids and the like? or am I understanding it wrong? Would you need to also go to medical school?

I'm actually very interested in physics though I didn't study it myself. If you need a sounding board let me know! Let me know too, if I'm asking too many questions. =]

Haha, you're fine.

Physics is a term to describe "Physical Science", which is just the study of our universe. Of course this is an incredibly broad spectrum. This is why the study of it can encompass many different fields. I do believe Pfizer is a pharma company but a physicist wouldn't work with bacteria. That would be saved for those with microbiology or molecular biology degrees. I saw a job posting for Pfizer a little bit ago that required a mathematics or physics degree but the specifics escape me. Probably more in a support and data capacity. One of the main areas people go into with a physics degree is engineering.

Thank you for explaining, I guess I seem to blur the lines between physics and biology. Either way, it's very interesting. Whatever you choose to do, you seem to have a true passion for it which seems to be the key. Most people seem to go into degrees or careers without passion and there after live a life they don't enjoy. =] You seem to be doing well though.

Thanks. Currently unemployed, actually. Construction job conveniently "doesn't have work anymore" for me so it has been a struggle, especially since I'm paying for school out of pocket for now.

I also realized I forgot to answer your first question in how I discovered my interest. To be honest, it started with roleplaying. Back when Yahoo! Chatrooms were still a thing, I roleplayed with this group of people who had god-like characters but employed a very perverted idea of physics. To be competitive in role play fights and general RP, I would study physics in my free time, going so far as to buying a couple books to explain things, chiefly among them Brian Greene's The Elegant Universe. If you have never read it, and are interesting, should pick it up. It was written in 1999, I do believe, so a lot of the nuances have changed over the years, obviously, but the general concepts still hold true. Of course, you can't go wrong with Michio Kaku, either. Or you can simply go read research papers! Haha.

If you ever feel like RPing, feel free to shoot me a PM also! One could do with more friends. :)

I'll have to add both of those to my reading list! I'm currently stuck on a book recommend to me by a friend. It's good but not what I usually read so I'm stuck on it =] It'll be a little further down the line but, as soon as I get to them I will let you know what I think! I really am interested! I've always been of the mindset that knowledge is made to be learned and we humans are fortunate enough to have the ability to learn quickly (at least enough to die with a lot of knowledge) so if I don't know enough about something, I'm always willing to learn more!

I hear you with the job hunt btw. It's a tough market out there for anyone looking, especially for something that doesn't include retale. Best of luck in that regard my friend. =]

I just started an RP which you may join if your interested (roleplayerguild.com/topics/155425-mitz..), if not, then maybe another one soon!

Interesting RP! I may indeed take you up on your offer.

Did you get inspiration for the house from the Winchester Mansion?

Yes! Sort of. I made this RP years and years ago on my first RPing site and it was really successful. Since I'm new to this site I thought I'd bring it around again to get used to everyone's playing style. The manor I did similarly to the Winchester mansion on accident the first time. I've since then, discovered it, and did a lot research on Winchester Mansion, how it came about and all that. I would really like to go their someday but, in the mean time, I'll just rp about it.

Haha fair enough. Best suggestions I would give is as you meet and RP with more and more players, befriend those you have the most fun with. I tend to stick with darker tropes myself. Hard to find 18+ mature RPs without people thinking its some sexual cyberfest.

I can see that, seems like most of this sites following are those in High School though I haven't meet many yet. I wouldn't mind a more 'adult' RP that isn't a sexual cyberfest (I mean that's all we adults do right lol) If you come across one let me know will you? I don't like joining RPs that are more then 20 posts in before I get there because I loose track of what's going on where and who is who.

What type of 'darker tropes'?

Haha, yes, a fair bit are still in high school but that doesn't necessarily make them bad writers. I was actually thinking of creating an RP that is more adult themed and serious.

Mainly referring to tragedies. Characters who have dark pasts or psychological issues, like most everyone in real life. This can range from mild or severe, of course, and even a mild case can have a big impact depending on the individual person. Also the darker side of man. The sadists. The murderers. The sexual offenders (of course this would be implied and NEVER RP'd).

Think Lovecraft. Psychologically scarring and the sort.
