In the waning days of Empire, the Empire of Man turned to hiring privateers to enforce the will of the state when the Navy could not. You are one of these privateers, a former pirate caught by legal forces. Given a choice between execution or joining the Privateer Flotilla, you chose the later. Unfortunately, in the process of capturing you your ship was rendered inoperable. The Empire has provided you basic ships, but it is up to you to outfit them.
Ships have seven stats: Reactor power (measured in megawatts) Computing power (measured in t-flops) Engine speed (acceleration measured in g-forces per second, and FTL speed at x amount the speed of light) Armor (material and milimeters) Projectile mounts Missile racks Energy mounts
The combat system works like so: Your ship has four combat stats: Reactor Power: Avaliable weapons power per post. Shield Integrity: How strong your shields are. Shields at full strength can block all hits, but loose integrity as they take damage. At 50% integrity, half of the enemy shots will get through. Ammo: Effectively self-explanatory, if using missiles or ammo-based weaponry. Heat: Once more, self explanatory. Lasers and energy weapons generate MUCH more heat than projectile weaponry. Hard maneuvering increases as well.
Ship damage is dynamic - shots that get through shields may or may not breach your armor, depending on how strong it is. There's a random chance depending on where the enemy targets you if they hit, and what they do to your ship.
