"Just a experiment about how a modern civilization will react to a new world full of magic and new resources, would it end with another war between themselves and the inhabitants of the new world or would it create a everlasting peace? That is for you to decide as the leaders of the leading nations of the world and the fantasy one."

~Wildman13

*Note: I don't claim any ownership of the idea for this RP, complete credit goes to Wildman13, who is still free to GM this if he wants. Just wanted to get things moving, because he hasn't said anything on his original interest check in a week.

We have yet to decide on how, exactly, we want to go about doing this and the parameters of this magical fantasy world, however, I have outlined what we have established and what we recognize we are going to have to make decisions on.

This will be updated as new decisions are made and new problems arise.

  • Private Organizations? Heck yeah!
  • Countries? Yes, after a strawpoll vote.
  • Control of Nations in the New World? You got it.
  • How the world combo happens? Unclear, although we have some ideas.
  • New: When will the world combo happen? The beginning of the RP.
  • New: Alternate Reality? Probably, to an extent, with different nations and rulers.
  • Races? "Duh! We already have those in our world-" Shush. I'm talking about elves, ogres, goblins, gnomes, telepathic water buffaloes, whatever. What do we want to see? And, if we have elves, are they Lord of the Rings style elves or Santa's elves in the spirit of the holidays? (I vote Keebler Elves).

Personally, I don't think this type of game could work without involvement of Modern/Mundane World Governmental Entities(tm), even if they aren't the governments of our world necessarily, if that makes sense? The 'Modern' world might not necessarily be the world as we know it, after all, even if it conforms to our physics. At the very least though, there would be big questions about why, say, the United States(or w/e) wouldn't be interested in dealing with diplomatic relations with the new world and all that jazz.

I vote aye for various races, maybe leave exacts up to what people are willing to play(that is, if someone wants to play a nation comprised of hundreds of orcish tribes, then Let There Be Orcs!). Also in particular I vote aye for The Undead.
Mostly because I want to play The Undead.

Finally, silly Spooky Squid. Keebler 'Elves' are a misnomer. Clearly, they're beardless gnomes.

What do you guys think about me making a couple of straw polls and having people vote on what they want to see?

(e.g. races, how the world's cross over, etc.)

Also, I'm pretty sure we've established that the world cross over will happen during the early part of the RP.

Also, what do you guys think about the ability to make "custom countries"? For example:

"The Republic of Western Europe, a combination of what in our world, is North Korea, Japan, and Russia that has a constitutional monarchy" (Not saying I'd want to be this nation, just using this as an example of something that could exist in our actual world in an alternate time line, but doesn't.)

Finally, I'd think it would be pretty interesting if when these worlds crossed over, certain countries and regions that weren't politically important would gain influence based on the magical resources that became available there. Just a suggestion.

Oh, I almost forgot- I'm going to make a rough draft of a "Character" Sheet format. Any suggestions?

1: Regarding setting and nations:
I think it would be best to do this in the 'Not so distant near future' so we have a frame of reference about history while allowing for customisation even if it means outrageous impossible things. Return of the soviet union! Federalized EU! United Commonwealth! And that way create a few 'Super nations' that can be relevant other than the usual USA, Russia, China actual trio.

2: Regarding the fantasy world:
Completely freeform in my opinion, lets go nuts, any race, magic, yay. Obviously would be wiped out of the map with a confrontation with any of the tech worlds in a conventional fight, but has the ability to go vietnam/afghanistan/iraq x1000 in the aftermath.

3: The portal: I'm thinking the nation hosting the portal should be the weakest politically and be forced to play a very tense diplomatic game. Alternatively: Everyone can open portals or there are many of them, conveniently one or two per nation, etc.

4: Nukes: I think nukes should exist and everyone in the modern world could have or use them if they so wish, and be able to use the 'If you do this, I'll nuke you' bluff/menace as much as they want. In fact, I could see this continue post-nuke when the fantasy world resources become many times more important.

Three things:

1) We really need to figure out how to combine these worlds. People seem to like the portal idea, but I want to see how you guys think that should work out.

2) Here, answer this.

http://www.strawpoll.me/11878936

3) Country Sheet Sample (This is just a very rough draft and an example of information that would be included. Obviously, you wouldn't make a country this ridiculous, but I wanted to make sure I didn't copy something people already had in mind):

Country/ Organization/ Group Name: The Koalaminican Republic

Modern Countries it includes or spawns in: Dominican Republic, Australia, Central Canada

Type of Gov't: Constitutional Representative Anarchy

History: Thanks to an a vote passed recently by congress, the country is forced to do nothing but the Macarena for eternity. Not magically added to the country.

Resources & Wealth: Leads the world in doorknob exports. Relatively poor.

Military Might: Has an elite team of fighters known as the power rangers and no nukes (I don't think every country should be guaranteed nukes).

Relationships: Can't stand Russia. Has alliance with the Bolivian Kaleidoscope Overlords of Eastern Wales. But only on Thursday.

Important Leaders: Bob Ross, influential governor

Religion, Language, and Culture: Everyone speaks via Morse Code with low clicking noises. 83% of the population is a pastafarian. On Fridays, members of this society are unable to verbally communicate.

would private organizations be PMCs or something?

Mmm. In the way a square is also a rectangle, yeah, though the other way around-PMCs would be private orgs. Think of Private Organizations as being any kinda NGO-Megacorps, non-profit organizations, ect on our side, and Guilds and the like on the other side. Some(though not all) of these might have a militarized branch, but not all of them by any stretch.

EDIT:Also hooray for being the person whose vote has a majority lead, if only because I'm so far the only voter!

Re:nukes, I believe Wernher only meant that each of the player nations on the Modern side should be allowed to be nuclear powers, although not necessarily would they have to be. That said, I would limit it to Large Nations myself, given as (most) smaller nations don't have a nuclear program and I would find it fairly unfitting for a private corporation to be a nuclear-armed power, as it were.

Here, apparently didn't get the tag earlier...

As far as I know, General Electric has made nuclear weapons in the past.

Also, I'd be on board with the idea of nuclear powers formally spreading their arsenals with allies to ensure their sovereignty in an interdimensional contact scenario.

I'm for this too. This would be a little less political, and more unified in terms of sending some sort of international force (like a UN coalition of sorts). My reasoning being that regardless where that portal appears, everyone would more realistically react like "Holy shit guys! The hell is this?" Maybe later down the line when things settling, bases are established, ect, do we see countries trying to pull shit like Japan did in GATE.

I'm also for having an alternate world for the Modern nations. I'm thinking along the lines of Ace Combat or something, just so we can have a bit more creativity.
