For myself, I would not be opposed to the sandbox approach. I have an idea for a character which would conceptually benefit from him being fairly ancient (though this is certainly not integral to the idea per se), albeit not holding any significant rank within the Camarilla hierarchy. It would, however, be well to see others' views on the matter.

*nods* I'll wait for people to weigh in before I get to the actual char gen part of the OOC topic. For now, I have plenty to do getting the necessary background information on the setting, the sects, and the clans on there, first.

Golly, how did I miss this? Is there any chance there's room for more? I've not played VtM in years, and seeing it being run again has just hit me so hard in my nostalgia-bits that I need to sit down.

There's always room for more here. I'm hoping to have as many people as possible so players can take court positions and such.

Fantastic! I rather like the idea of having court positions handled by players, simply because it creates more opportunities for intrigue and schemes and what-not. Not that neonates are lacking in any way in that department, but being movers-and-shakers in a domain really does lend itself to that sort of thing!

Indeed so. I've found it really interesting in Minds Eye Society (which I joined back in August), since all of the court positions and everything are PCs. And much intrigue is had.

While I know we won't get as many PCs as a typical MES venue, I'm hoping to have enough for interesting things to happen as a result of character-driven goals. I might allow people to play more than one character, to that end. And I also am going to make several NPCs, most likely, to fill in gaps and such.

That, and this will likely be set in a location where the Camarilla does not have a strong hold yet or recently had some manner of disaster occur. To explain ICly why there aren't more people there.

Just out of interest, have any of you ladies and gents ever played over skype or google hangouts or some such thing? I've been thinking about recruiting for something like that meself and I'm wondering what the medium du jour is.

@jbeil - My group uses Skype and roll20. That combination works very, very well.

I've done some stuff on Roll20 with Skype, and it generally works well, my only problem with it has been scheduling. Trying to get a whole bunch of gamers together at one time in real life is hard enough, trying to do it when they span multiple timezones can be a bit of a headache.

While I know we won't get as many PCs as a typical MES venue, I'm hoping to have enough for interesting things to happen as a result of character-driven goals.

I've been thinking a bit about what I want to play, and with that in mind, I'll make sure that whatever I end up coming up with has some fairly clear goals to work towards to keep things moving.

Just to let you guys know, I'm still working on the OOC topic. I haven't disappeared mysteriously into the void, never to be seen again.

I'm a fan of the V:tM Lore, but a bit of a noob to tabletop gaming, especially online. So with the GMs patience I'd be happy to learn as I go. That said I did have some questions.

1: Will we have set character sheets to fill out and how shall they be filled? By rolling our stats as in D&D of will we be given a set number of points to distribute among our stats as we see fit? Within the bounds of our clan of course. (No one expects a Tremere to have maxed out their strength)

2: How will the rolls work? I understand that the GM wants to be a regular post-by-post rp with occasional rolls. Will the GM be performing those rolls personally or is each player to make their own rolls? Is there some kind of online service for dice rolls, for those of us who don't own their own physical set of dice?

3: What limits are being placed on clans. I've always been a fan of Malkavians, but some GMs dislike having them in their rps, for obvious reasons.

I'll probably have more questions as we progress, but that's what I've got so far. I'm looking to the GM for definitive answers here, but I invite everyone else who wishes to give their input or perspectives. As I said, I'm new to tabletop gaming, especially over the internet, so any advice is welcome.

1) Yes, there will be character sheets to fill out. And you will have points to distribute for those.

2) I will be making a rolls thread for this. I'm game for either you guys doing your own rolling there, or I could make the rolling posts there myself. Doesn't really matter to me either way.

3) You can play any Camarilla Clan (yes, Malkavians included). You may play an Independent Clan, but only if you justify it. (I will be making a PC for myself, and I will tell you right now that he's an Assamite.)

And a general note (and apology) for you guys... My time has been eaten up more than expected recently. I will finish the OOC topic, so no worries on me dropping this rp. I'm just transitioning onto a new laptop at this point, since my previous one has been having technical difficulties. (My previous one is also over 6 years old, so it's not surprising that it's going downhill.)

On this note, would a Sabbat defector, or a member of a Sabbat Clan bearing no loyalty to the sect itself and more inclined to sympathise with the Camarilla be altogether implausible? Not that this would be of major relevance - indeed, it would probably function better as a concept for a secondary character of sorts, if those shall be necessary at all - but it might abet an idea of mine for a party apparently not involved with the Ivory Tower's politics, but seeking to indirectly affect them through hidden means.

@Oraculum - Hmmm. If you give me a good enough reason for why your character isn't with the Sabbat anymore, then I might allow it. Just bear in mind that you'd be looked upon with, at best, extreme suspicion of your intentions.

What I had in mind was playing upon the old-world Tzimisce's traditional tendency to conduct their experiments in isolation to create a character who, having spent most of his existence in seclusion seeking the secrets of Metamorphosis, or, alternatively, having been inducted into his present state by such a sire, has recently been forced out of his haunts (possible causes include the encroaching of the modern world, or the implications of the slaying of Baba Yaga if he originates from Eastern Europe), and must find a place in Kindred society. Despite the majority of his Clan being affiliated with the Sabbat, he sees the latter's enforced ideals of action and communality as an obstacle to his studies, which he attempts to continue, and finds the status quo upheld by Camarilla as a more desirable environment for his work; and, as he has heretofore not had much contact with either of them, he is not subject to prior loyalties, causing his choice of allegiance to be founded on pragmatic reasoning alone.

It stands to reason that a Tzimisce would be widely distrusted and grudgingly tolerated in the best of cases, which is indeed the reason for him being unable to act directly in the Camarilla's power struggles - and power is a commodity he craves, if only since it would allow him greater freedom in making people disappear in disreputable quarters. In order to gain any sort of influence, he would have to rely on thralls and those bold enough to privately seek his services as a practitioner of Vicissitude (altering the appearance of ghouls for infiltration purposes comes to mind as a potential marketable use of the Discipline, distasteful though it may be) in return for vaguely defined "favours".

As mentioned, this is a mere idea, not especially elaborate beyond its basic concept. However, if such a character were acceptable at all, it could be further refined to fit an established setting.

Hey there, are you still looking? I've been looking for people to do a World of Darkness game for ages! I don't know too much, but I have the VtM core rule book PDF so I can read up on it easy enough.
